Did your church offer a specific prayer thanking God for Clinton's defeat? In my church, which is in a 100% pro-life denomination (MO Synod Lutheran), it was notably absent.
So, you’re surprised that a Missouri Synod Lutheran Church would leave politics out of a Thanksgiving service?
I’ve been LCMS my whole life and Even attended the Seminary in St Louis. Pastors tend to stay fairly neutral on these things, though they can certainly get political from the pulpit. My pastor is a staunch advocate of the pro-life movement but continues to pray for our leaders (whomever they may be). I will say that I will be very happy after January 20th when he stops praying for “our President Barack” and starts praying our President Donald!
That said, I’ll say it. Thank you Lord for the election of Donald J. Trump. Please bless his presidency and give him wisdom and resolve to govern according to Your will!
No, the minister intentionally censored anything political at the Thanksgiving Eve prayers.
Basically, the pastor thanked God that his will was done without mentioning anyone in particular...
Pastors tend to stay neutral...for good reasons...
I live in the Seattle/Tacoma area and our church remained semi neutral of the election although one pastor posted he didn’t support either candidate. Some of the members of the church were off the wall liberal and they cried about it after the election. I seriously don’t know how any Christian could support Clinton.
I’m so sick of being in a liberal congregation and I attend a LCMS.
Mr Lucky, thanks for replying, but your question added no value.
> Pastors tend to stay neutral...for good reasons...
I think that’s a gross sin because we are required to come to the aid of the helpless (babies in the womb, and old people).
Unfortunately, our churches have since embraced the Dark Side. By way of comparison, there are a number of books detailing the role of the clergy in the Revolution, as expressed in their documented sermons. I could not imagine today’s priests and ministers embracing and expounding the vision of the Founders.
In my Missouri Synod congregation, the Pastor could expect a stern interview with the Board of Elders for endorsing a specific politician from the pulpit.
You are conflating issues...
He is neutral from the pulp on who to vote for as in not endorsing a candidate...
Our pastor regularly speaks out against abortion...
It doesn’t take a genius to know what candidate is pro death...
We need to lose up to about half of our congregants. If we showed leadership, we would not lose half. Harrison stated that he wanted 85% agreement. It’s time.
If any congregant admits to, or worse, brags about supporting a pro abortion candidate, they need to be disciplined. There’s a reason that the church is anemic.
> conflating
Hey, cool word, genius.
Compartmentalizing our lives. Christian behavior, not!
If scripture is preached clearly tge folks in the pew will know who to vote for.
If nothing was said, at least it wasn’t a rant. Check out this one from the ELCA pastor at First Lutheran Church, Malden, MA
Our church has acted as if there has been NO election. Only mention of it from the pulpit has been: 1) God is in control. 2) If refugees enter our country, we will meet them with the gospel.
I am Catholic just got so sick of the social justice outlook of MOST Catholics I sought out an orthodox Catholic Church my priest prayed for our NEW leaders that God who put them there will not be disappointed in their NEW direction for our nation!!!!
The King did many right things in the sight of the Lord but
The high places, however, were not removed;
