It appears that many Vatican officials are unhappy with Donald Trump’s presidential victory.
… Corriere della Sera reported Nov. 10 that, according to its research, most in the Vatican were backing Hillary Clinton as the ‘lesser evil.’ Trump, on the other hand, was considered ‘unelectable’ due to his ‘aggressive chauvinism,’ in addition to his threats to deport 11 million illegal Mexican immigrants and ban Muslims from immigrating to the United States.
Now that the ‘greater evil’ has won, the Vatican is viewing the United States as ‘angry and radicalized,’ Corriere della Sera wrote….
A ‘lot of incomprehension’ and ‘bitter shock’ were generally prevalent for many in the Vatican, agreed one U.S. official who spoke with the Register. Based on ‘failings of reporting,’ he said, Clinton was represented as far preferable to Trump, who was portrayed as a ‘buffoon,’ and reporting about Clinton’s shortcomings ‘never sunk in.’
Due to a general lack of understanding of the U.S. ‘culture wars’ in Italy, Clinton’s radical pro-abortion-rights position also hardly figured at all in media commentary.
I can’t help but wonder if the Vatican is becoming the enemy of authentic Catholicism. It sure seems that way. As for Pope Francis, I was certainly willing to give him the benefit of the doubt in the early months of his pontificate, as were most other orthodox Catholics. Sadly, his pontificate has turned out to be a huge disappointment.
He loves to give off-the-cuff remarks to members of the media about important moral matters that deserve far more serious and thoughtful treatment; he thrives on ambiguity in his speech and writing; he prides himself on being humble and merciful – “Who am I to judge? – yet his words and actions toward orthodox clergy and laity have been insulting and arrogant.

I have that book, it’s a great and fascinating reading.
I suspect he had heave blackmail info against Benedict but not sure what (pedophilia doesn’t ring true in that case)
Thank you for making that observation, reaganaut, but I will say I appreciate Buckeye McFrog’s comment for what it was.
I am looking for God, that much is plain, and I think Buckeye McFrog saw that. It is also true though, even if I am not yet part of a church, it doesn’t mean I don’t believe in God, pray to God, and talk to God, because I do.
God is there, not in an organized Church though. I grew up nominally Christian, then converted to Mormonism and after several years left that. I ended up Evangelical and discovered that what Church I belong to didn’t matter as much as long as my view of God is correct (theology). God finds us where we are and often it is easier to worship outside a church. MrR and I were unaffiliated for 3 years after the church he grew up in splintered and that was ok. We worshiped at home as a couple, read our Bibles etc. After a couple of years I started praying for God to guide us to the church he wanted us at. My husband prayed the same. When the answer came we were shocked because we had heard negative things about this church from the church he grew up in - turns out they were wrong and once we got past the “God you have to be kidding” phase and started attending, we found our church home. We have been there for over a dozen years (now only in winter) and have grown there in ways we never did elsewhere.
May God guide your search.
For me the count would also include friends and a couple former girlfriends. They won’t be ‘lost’ as they will still be on the same planet.
I’ve known illegal aliens who probably wouldn’t be counted in the 11M count as they are here on tourist visas and go home 2 times per year but violate the terms of their visas by working. Some of them vote. One claimed he did so because ‘what the USA does affects the world.’ (That particular person is back in Ireland now, fortunately.)
Either way, they all urinate on my nation’s sovereignty. I don’t bother to ask myself ‘are they good for the USA’ or ‘are they net contributors’ unless they are first in accordance with it’s laws.
I have a particular disdain for politicians who tell me how we NEED aliens coming here illegally.
Catholics are of course encouraged to donate to the Church. While some parishes suggest tithing, 5% to the Church, 5% to other charities, it is not mandatory to belong to a parish nor do all parishes tithe. In fact in the Catholic tradition all giving is an act of humility. What you give, that is sacrifice and how you give is between you and the Almighty. Priests can encourage and even beg but they cannot force a Catholic to give or remove their standing in the Church or parish if they choose not to donate. Catholic parishes collect donations or second collections for a wide variety of causes usually Catholic related charities or goals. There is a special second collection yearly known as “Peter’s pence” which is meant to support the papacy. Donations are not mandatory. Of course heavy dollops of the legendary “Catholic guilt” are doled out by the Church when soliciting these donations. There is no doubt a fear in the Church that many Catholics will feel no guilt when it comes to Peter’s Pence donations for the current papacy. Many Catholics will consider such sentiments near heresy but it is what it is given the postures and positions of Pope Francis. Nevertheless most traditional Catholics will continue to donate in the annual “Peter’s Pence” collection. The sentiment being whatever his politics he is still the Pope and the vicar of Christ.
This Catholic went all in for Trump too.
This kind of ambiguity just confuses and scandalizes our children.
Thank you. So it would be fine to donate to other charities/ministries rather than support the Vatician, esp if you are in disagreement with the Pope?
Yes! I have been telling friends to read that book. I plan to reread it soon.
Good. Another correct enemy. Bless you, Mr. Trump.
I said we should have “taken” the Cubans and the Vietnamese refugees i.e grant them legal status. They are businesslike, hard workers and they vote conservative.
There were instances during the 2,000 year history of the Catholic Church when less than sterling men ascended to the papacy. Some were clearly corrupt and even hedonistic. The Church has always held that a true Catholic must adhere to the Pope’s teaching only when he is expounding on Church doctrine or the tenets of the Catholic Church. When he behaves politically, or expounds on matters unrelated to Church doctrine, there is no requirement for a Catholic to adhere or support his efforts. Traditionally when a Pope makes a pronouncement “ex cathedra”, a rare occurrence, it is then he is believed to be speaking as the apostolic vicar of Christ and is infallible. He is not infallible when he makes comments to reporters or politicians, gives interviews, writes articles or books. A Catholic can remain a Catholic in excellent standing and not contribute a dime to the Pope or the Church.
Please remove me from the ping list
And still rules a lot of dioceses and parishes. Unfortunately for our children, our unborn children and our country.
“So Trump, a shocked Vatican, and papal climate change walk into a bar. . . .”
