Thank you. So it would be fine to donate to other charities/ministries rather than support the Vatician, esp if you are in disagreement with the Pope?

There were instances during the 2,000 year history of the Catholic Church when less than sterling men ascended to the papacy. Some were clearly corrupt and even hedonistic. The Church has always held that a true Catholic must adhere to the Pope’s teaching only when he is expounding on Church doctrine or the tenets of the Catholic Church. When he behaves politically, or expounds on matters unrelated to Church doctrine, there is no requirement for a Catholic to adhere or support his efforts. Traditionally when a Pope makes a pronouncement “ex cathedra”, a rare occurrence, it is then he is believed to be speaking as the apostolic vicar of Christ and is infallible. He is not infallible when he makes comments to reporters or politicians, gives interviews, writes articles or books. A Catholic can remain a Catholic in excellent standing and not contribute a dime to the Pope or the Church.
