The cardinal said there was a tradition of issuing a formal correction if a Pope is in error
Cardinal Raymond Burke has said it may be necessary to make a formal act of correction if Pope Francis doesnt answer a letter from four cardinals asking him to clarify aspects of Amoris Laetitia.
In an interview with Edward Pentin of National Catholic Register, Cardinal Burke said that if the Pope were to teach error or heresy, It is the duty in such cases, and historically it has happened, of cardinals and bishops to make clear that the Pope is teaching error and to ask him to correct it.
Cardinal Burke is one of four cardinals who have written to the Pope asking for a clarification of Amoris Laetitia. They say that the document could be read as contradicting Church teaching on the moral law and on the question of Communion for the remarried. The Pope has declined to reply to the letter.
Asked what would happen if the Pope remained silent, Cardinal Burke replied: Then we would have to address that situation. There is, in the tradition of the Church, the practice of correction of the Roman Pontiff. It is something that is clearly quite rare. But if there is no response to these questions, then I would say that it would be a question of taking a formal act of correction of a serious error.

“Its not just Bishops that covered it up. It is also Cardinals and Archbishops.”
Whether Cardinal or Archbishop - they were ALL bishops. That’s why I used the proper title - “bishops”.
“It is a Catholic Church cover up.”
No. It was not universal, not part of universal practice or doctrine, not part of the catechism, and not the teaching or practice of any pope. It was not a “Catholic Church cover up.” But someone predisposed to the ridiculous might conclude otherwise.
Marcial Maciel
How long?
Yet, the Catholic Church covered it up over and over and over again all across the world. Yes, Archbiships and Cardinals covered it up
Not about Money. Sure...ahem. Ask Sodano

“Do you believe the Holy Spirit made a mistake during the last conclave?”
Do you still beat your wife? That’s almost the sort of question you’re asking here. Did the Holy Spirit make a “mistake” at the conclave which chose Pope Leo X? How about John XII?
Sometimes the Holy Spirit uses men who we ultimately find wanting to accomplish things that are part of a plan we don’t fully understand.
“Not about Money. Sure...ahem. Ask Sodano”
Maciel wasn’t a bishop, or archbishop, or cardinal. We were talking about the wider Church and not just one religious order. You seem so desperate to prove. . . something, anything and it’s not working.
“Yet, the Catholic Church covered it up over and over and over again all across the world. Yes, Archbiships and Cardinals covered it up”
Nope. The Catholic Church never covered up the abuse. Individuals did what they did. The Catholic Church never abused a child, nor covered up the abuse of a child.
So your church, the self-proclaimed Kingdom of God on earth, is lead by the doctrines of men rather than the Holy Spirit?

SODANO AND MACIEL
Regarding Father Maciel, Cardinal Sodano is accused of taking substantial amounts of money in order to help the Legion ingratiate itself with the Vatican. This allegedly led Sodano to hinder investigations into Maciel, beginning in 1998 when ex-Legion victims filed a canonical case against Maciel with the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. According to Berry, Cardinal Sodano pressured Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, then the congregations prefect, to halt the proceedings.
You seem to be intent on covering it up. Because someone so well versed as you should know all about Sodano.
Why is it that you just seem to forget to mention that Sordano was a CARDINAL covering up sexual abuse..called it petty gossip
And for those making the ludicrous claim that the Catholic Church isnt filled with politics and power struggle

“SODANO AND MACIEL”
One order. You’re proving my point for me.
The DEAN of the College of Cardinals
Cardinal Sodano appears to have an exceptionally sinister record of shielding abusers, particularly eminent ones, which goes back many years. He blocked a 1995 investigation into subsequently proven accusations of child abuse against Schönborns predecessor as Archbishop of Vienna, Hans Hermann Groër. The most shameful episode was his consistent defence over decades of Fr Marcial Maciel Degollado, founder of the Legion of Christ. And, according to reports in the National Catholic Reporter, he had his reasons: he stands accused of receiving a great deal of money and other benefits from the Legion of Christ. In 1998, according to reports, Sodano halted investigations into sexual abuse by Maciel then being carried out by the CDF. One of Pope Benedicts first actions was to depose Maciel and forbid him to function as a priest.
Covering up abuse Not about Money or Power or Greed???? ROFLMAO
Come one..why do you pretend ..or do you just not know. What about Groër
“You seem to be intent on covering it up. Because someone so well versed as you should know all about Sodano.”
I do know all about Sodano. You keep forgetting he WAS A BISHOP - and therefore is part of what I posted earlier. Thinking logically, try it.
“Why is it that you just seem to forget to mention that Sordano was a CARDINAL covering up sexual abuse..called it petty gossip”
He is a BISHOP. I covered that in post number 73. Why do you keep posting as if that didn’t happen?

Why would a poster here who claims to be an historian and knows all about the Catholic Church LIE about Soando and Groër
“Come one..why do you pretend”
Why do you keep pretending that this was not covered in post #73?
“..or do you just not know. What about Groër”
Bishop. Covered in post #73. You just keep proving my point over and over again.
Cardinal Hans Hermann Gröer
tell us about him
Did Cardinal Schönborn state that Angelo Cardinal Sodano blocked his attempt to investigate Groër
