Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Book of Psalms

(Psalm 11)

Psalm 11

For the director of music. Of David.

1 In the Lord I take refuge.
    How then can you say to me:
    “Flee like a bird to your mountain.
2 For look, the wicked bend their bows;
    they set their arrows against the strings
to shoot from the shadows
    at the upright in heart.
3 When the foundations are being destroyed,
    what can the righteous do?”

4 The Lord is in his holy temple;
    the Lord is on his heavenly throne.
He observes everyone on earth;
    his eyes examine them.
5 The Lord examines the righteous,
    but the wicked, those who love violence,
    he hates with a passion.
6 On the wicked he will rain
    fiery coals and burning sulfur;
    a scorching wind will be their lot.

7 For the Lord is righteous,
    he loves justice;
    the upright will see his face.

Teach us To Reach Out To Others

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH For Our Brethren Of All Faiths Throughout The World Suffering Persecution.

We pray in particular on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Libya and throughout the Mideast. The members of the oldest of our Christian Communities, some of which date from the days of the Apostles, suffer under cruel, merciless and unrelenting persecution. They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

When encouraging others, we often are confronted by the "Yeahbuts". That would be "Yeah, but my situation is so much worse!" or "Yeah, but what can one person do against a whole society of evil?" or even "Yeah, but you don't understand! I am under attack by satan!"

David gives us some of his "Yeahbuts" in this amazing Psalm. "The evil bend their bows! The foundations are gone! I am under attack! What can the Righteous do?

Almost instantly, David refutes all his own "Yeahbuts" with the declaration: The LORD is in His Holy Temple!" In other words, "God is on the Throne!" He is watching, and is involved. He is our defense, our stronghold, and our Hope. The "Yeahbuts" shrivel away, and we face the future with Faith.
