From Catholic New York:
The Holy Eucharist was stolen early last week from Holy Trinity Church on Manhattans Upper West Side.
The tabernacle door was reportedly vandalized and forced open and the Eucharist was removed what is believed to be sometime early Monday morning, Sept. 19, according to Msgr. Thomas Sandi, the pastor.
Msgr. Sandi made the discovery when opening the church for 9 a.m. daily Mass that same day. He reported the incident to police, and at press time was awaiting results of their investigation. The tabernacle door is currently being repaired.
On behalf of Cardinal Dolan, Auxiliary Bishop John OHara, episcopal vicar of Staten Island and South, East and West Manhattan, presided at Sunday morning Masses at Holy Trinity on Sept. 25.
After introducing the bishop to his parishioners before the 9:30 a.m. liturgy, Msgr. Sandi explained the purpose of the bishops visit to the church.
Hes come to comfort us and to support us, Msgr. Sandi said.
Desecration of the Eucharist is a serious matter, the pastor said. (The Church teaches that the Blessed Sacrament is the Body and Blood of Christ.)
We dont want to scare anybody, Msgr. Sandi said. We believe that this robbery was just that.
The pastor encouraged the people to pray about the incident. We ask you to be calm, and trust in God.
Bishop OHara blessed the tabernacle, sanctuary and church nave with holy water.
Cardinal Dolan knows of your suffering, Bishop OHara said in his remarks to the congregation. He noted that the cardinals prayers and greetings to them accompanied him on his visit.
Catholic ping!
God can take care of himself.
Bishop OHara prayed, Good and gracious God, we have come together once again to celebrate the Paschal Mystery, and your Sons triumph over sin and death. But on this the Lords day we grieve, as your sanctuary and the Most Blessed Sacrament have been violated.
In the midst of this sadness, the bishop continued, we come together and ask you to bless and make holy this sacred space, where the mystery of the redemption is renewed daily.
It’s sad that I must ask this, but was this done by somebody looking for the Aloha Snackbar?
The Satanists must be holding an extra-special black mass to help Hillary. No joke.
Satan’s birthday is coming up on 10/31.
Hardly. The Eve of All Saint’s Day is hardly satanist. But moronic satanists are alive and well on that day thanks to evil Hollywood culture.
I fear for my little black cat who has grown senile at 20 and now disappears from my house on occasion (usually at 6am when, in dark, I let her out while half asleep). Black cats have been tortured and killed on Halloween in my formerly great country.
Were the Hosts consecrated?
If they were locked in the tabernacle, they almost certainly were. Or most of them were.
Ok, thanks.
If there are any left, sic the nuns on ‘em
We had a new server put unconsecrated hosts in with the consecrated ones. When Father learned of it a group of us reverently consumed all of them.
Never put unconsecrated hosts in the tabernacle!
It's even sadder that I have to ask this: "Are you a Catholic"?
OMG!!!! Protestants have NO idea of how awful this is.
It’s possible that the hosts were stolen in consideration of the imagined value of the ciborium. A tabernacle was violated in ... Argentina? Brazil? ... recently, and nuns attacked, probably in a search for drugs or anything valuable to exchange for drugs.
It’s logical enough: if something is locked up and kept in a special place with a light burning, it’s probably of great monetary value, right?
Are you Catholic ? I ask because this is no joke unless you’re not or at least only one in name only.
This is deeply disturbing. I know there is no video. I am saddened. Time was when we respected a house of worship.
Sacred Host, insulted by blasphemers, have mercy on us.
That is what I said when, after giving communion to a group at an assisted living retirement home, one of the women told me that another woman put the Host down her blouse. I was not about to retrieve it.
Reading this thread, hoping to learn what the Eucharist is,
my condolence to Catholics, but as a jew I don’t know. Would someone tell me what the Eucharist is?
