Olympic Gold Medalist Katie Ledecky Prays “The Hail Mary” Before Every Race
uCatholic ^ | August 8, 2016

Posted on 08/08/2016 2:14:55 PM PDT by NYer

U.S. Olympian Katie Ledecky is the world record holder in the 400-, 800- and 1500-meter freestyles, and the American record holder in the 500-, 1000- and 1650-yard freestyles.

In the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she will compete in the 200-, 400-, and 800-meter freestyle. She has won Gold medals in the 2012 London Olympics and again in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

But before every race Ledecky, a faithful Catholic, offers a Hail Mary. “I do say a prayer – or two – before any race. The Hail Mary is a beautiful prayer and I find that it calms me.” she said.

In an interview with the Catholic Standard Ledecky said “My Catholic faith is very important to me. It always has been and it always will be. It is part of who I am and I feel comfortable practicing my faith. It helps me put things in perspective.”

I am sorry that you do not understand. It is very clear.

Revelation 5:8 adds:

And when [the Lamb, Jesus Christ] had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holkding a harp, and with golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints...

Here, we have “the twenty-four elders,” representing the people of God from both Old and New Covenants (12 Patriarchs + 12 apostles = “24 elders”) receiving and commiunicating “the prayers of the saints” ascending from earth as incense. So again, we have Christians this side of the veil referred to as “saints.”

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The fervent prayer of a righteous person is very powerful. 17 James 5

As all baptized Catholics are part of the Body of Christ, including the ones on earth, in purgatory and Heaven, we are told to pray for one another.

I am sorry that you do not see the value of including all members of the Body of Christ in your prayers. Do you not think about or pray for your parents, grandparents or others that have passed? The souls in Purgatory certainly need our prayers.

I have tried to show you, yet you do not believe or accept. Just like many do not accept the words of Jesus to eat and drink HIS BODY AND BLOOD for everlasting Life with God.

“receiving and commiunicating “the prayers of the saints” ascending from earth as incense. “

Dude, you keep adding things not ther.

No where does it say the elders “received” prayers. You made that up.

Nowhere does it say the elders “communicated” prayers. You made that up.

Nowhere does it say the saints were on earth. You made that up.

Bro you made it all up when you couldn’t find a single verse to back up your claims. No even one verse to back up a pagan practice. Not a single verse that says what you claimed.

There are more than 30,000 verses in the Bible, but you haven’t found one yet.

Yet you still want to do as the pagans. You might ask why you can’t find a verse to support this practice.

Just like HC, deny and deny that doesn’t meet your story.

Keep trying msybe you will understand it one day.

I do believe that the Protestants fell away from the true teachings of Jesus and His church.

I do hope you find God’s peace.

When he took it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each of the elders held a harp and gold bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of the holy ones. 9They sang a new hymn:

“Worthy are you to receive the scroll

Singing with harp is prayer and incense is a form of praising God. Perhaps if you attend Mass, you would see the prayers offered through singing and incense.

"Just like HC, deny and deny that doesn’t meet your story." Ha! I'm not denying anything. I'm pointing out that you're making up things that are not there. "I do believe that the Protestants fell away from the true teachings of Jesus and His church. It is an opinion. You can believe whatever you prefer - as you are doing with the pagan prayer thing. "I do hope you find God’s peace. Got it! Grateful! "Singing with harp is prayer and incense is a form of praising God. Perhaps if you attend Mass, you would see the prayers offered through singing and incense." The elders do not play the harp. You made that up. Again. I've been to mass many, many times, as a former alter boy. Later, I came to faith in Christ. It remains you have not posted a single verse that says we are to pray to departed saints, that they can hear us or that any Christian in Scripture ever did such a thing. Not a single verse out of more than 30,000. Not even one.

Hello and welcome to the discussion, Elsie.

Your quote discourages "vain" repetitions,"as the heathens do," not repetitions per se.

If this were not the case, the Angels and Archangels would be offending God by "continually" surrounding His throne in Heaven, "continually" saying "Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Hosts!"

If your little child or grandchild were hugging your neck and saying "I love you, I love you, I love you," you wouldn't shake him off and say, "Stop with the vain heathenish repetitions." You would appreciate this as innocent childlike devotion, just as Jesus recommended repeatedly in the Gospels.

When praying the Rosary, Catholics meditate on 15 (now 20) scenes from the Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious events and episodes which tell the story of Christ's life and our salvation which He obtained for us.

That's what makes our practice of the Rosary the diametrical opposite of what a heathen would engage in, who nether knows nor loves Christ; and not "vain" (empty) but full --- very full --- in fact, infinitely full, as Jesus our Lord and our God is infinite.

And -— thank you for your acknowledgment of the “Catholic” Bible: the collection of sacred Texts, sourced from the Holy Spirit via Apostolic Tradition, which we collected, canonized, and curated for you and for the whole world, for the last 2,000 years!

Maybe she did.

But it’s not recorded ANYWHERE that she wanted anything.

But... old Freepers die off, and new Freepers sign up.

You are correct sir. We are moving on day by day. It's not easy, but there will be that grand reunion, where the celebration never ends, when we meet again, and walk on streets of transparent gold. Comfort one another with these words, Psalms 116:15: Precious in the sight of the Lord, is the death of His saints.
It was gut wrenching, standing out in the hallway, in Brokenshire Memorial Hospital, watching someone take their last breath, but we are slowly putting the pieces back together. 😩

So I hope that you become a saint.

I already am one.

The Book Rome assembled says so.

So I thought you understood, all that reach Heaven are saints as they are with God.

I 'understand' that some verses were refered to that contained certain words (the ones that mean something).

Those verses did not.

So I thought you understood, all that reach Heaven are saints as they are with God.

I don't think that The BOOK of LIFE has been opened yet; so I do NOT believe there are any 'saints' in Heaven at this present time.

I know Rome does not teach this; but the BOOK that was assembled by her infers it.

Exodus 32:32-33
But now, if you will forgive their sin—but if not, please blot me out of your book that you have written.”  But the Lord said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against me, I will blot out of my book.

Daniel 12:1
“At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people. And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never has been since there was a nation till that time. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone whose name shall be found written in the book.

Philippians 4:3
And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.

Revelation 3:5
He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

Revelation 13:8
And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Revelation 17:8
The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

Revelation 20:11-15
"Then I saw a great White Throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and THE BOOKS WERE OPENED. Another book was opened WHICH IS THE BOOK OF LIFE. The dead were judged according to their works as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to their works.  Then death and Hades were thrown into the Lake of Fire. The Lake of Fire is the second death. If anyone's name was not found written IN THE BOOK OF LIFE, he was thrown into the lake of fire."

Revelation 21:27
Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Not in Scripture to ever pray to Mary or any other departed believer.

What a perfect way to destroy a wonderful thread.........

You ever wonder why people such as me who believe in a God refuse to attach themselves to any religious affiliation?

Is there a Happy Hour or a an Early Bird Special that I am unaware of?

Is there some kind of a back door entry into Heaven that only Catholics; who have gone through the 'sainting process'; can use?

Some give glory to God; others to Mary.

We even had a mouthy one that wished that Muslims would have an easier life in the world; but especially in the USA.
