Except that he was initially mocking Jesus with the other thief.
No he didn't. What are you talking about?
Luke 23
39 ¶And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
It's not an over simplified assumption.
Because it has to be what you want it to be. The thief called Jesus "Lord", and knew about His coming kingdom. You don't know the story of the thief. So yes, you are making an over simplified assumption.

The only part of the story we know is what you just wrote. We can only speculate the rest of it. I do wonder how did that Thief know to call Jesus “Lord”?

Matthew 27:44 And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.
John 19:18 There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between them.
Only two robbers and THEY were mocking him as well.
You're going to have to do a better job of cherry picking to make your point than that. That was too easily refuted.

So yes, you are making an over simplified assumption.I just HATE when that happens!
"Now if any of you will deny the plurality of wives, and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned;
and I will go still further and say, take this revelation, or any other revelation that the Lord has given,
and deny it in your feelings, and I promise that you will be damned.
