**God has done important work in my spiritual life during that time—thank you, Lord! Spiritually, I am now younger, more confident, and stronger, even as my body ages—thank you, Lord. **

Isn’t this what we should really be concerned about?

Most people outgrow that (if they had it at all) desire.

I want a body like a car: it just needs to basically work, get a lot of miles, get me where I need to go, and not break down too often.

There is nothing that says one can’t be fit both physically and spiritually - in fact I believe the bible commands it. Nobody is ever to old to a perfect, fit, lean body. The heath, psychological and spiritual benefits of being in good shape are incredible. It just takes a lot of hard work and discipline, something the author doesn’t appear to want to put out. But that’s OK, it’s his choice.

Looking around at the average American, I’m not seeing this obsession being a particularly acute social problem at this time. :)

It's the government that wants us to have the perfect body...

by eating our vegies, exercising, and buying health insurance when all fails.

Yes .. thanks for the post.

I remarked just yesterday to a friend that I am LOVING being old!! A tad (ok, lots) heavier than a few decades ago, fully gray/white, “smile lines” galore. And more content with and in my life than ever.

I used to be a Greek God. Now I’m just a God damn Greek!

Maybe you should change your tagline if you're going to be blasphemous to our Creator.

I’m not blasphemous; I’m Greek. God understands. We’re His second naughtiest kids, after the Jews. That’s why He made the OT in Hebrew and the NT in Greek, just so we’d have no excuses....
