Ping!
I was suspicious of this claim from the beginning.
Interesting article on today’s media’s attitude towards THEIR flavor of the world - more than anything else.
Some nuns are hot.
Reminds me of that scene in Blues Brothers where they encounter the nun in her office.
And some are not.
Anyone tell me where I can find out how all those fancy robes with gold and stuff on them and the hats they were were instituted and why? Yeshua and his disciples just wore a simple robe and sandals. Wouldn’t you think the Church would emulate that? I’m not being hateful or anything, just curious. Thanks in advance.
This lie was stated as fact in the book, “Everything you always wanted to know about Sex”. I doubted it at the time.
Start reading Church History — lots of good/factual reads.
Get back when you are done.
The Catholic Church teaches that at Mass, priests are acting “in persona Christi.” Thus, when a priest (or bishop or pope) puts on those elaborate robes, he doesn’t think, I’m getting all dressed up!, he thinks, these are for Christ because we want Him to have the best! And in fact, that is why people donated money for those robes.
Similarly, if Obama and Michelle showed up as representatives of the US at the UN to give a speech, if they dressed in beat-up jeans and t-shirts, everyone would be upset, right? That would be inappropriate dress for an occasion like that and for their position in it. For Obama to wear a very nice suit and his wife to wear a designer dress would be appropriate in that situation.
Hope this helps!
BTW, any further discussion should probably occur on a different thread in a different forum.
Where is it written? Chapter and verse, please.
Answer me this: what does your minister wear?
And as for you: are you a disciple of Christ? If so, what do you wear?
Please include, in your self-disclosure, all accoutrements such as watch, ring, hearing aid, underpants, socks, or cell phone.
Thanks in advance.
To don-o: please note my use of the word "accoutrements." Gimme five?
My minister wears a business suit.
I am not a diciple of Yeshua but a follower and believer and I wear what our present culture wears.
I have a cell phone (our culture) and I wear a watch (our culture).
I suggest that you read a book (if you can do so without needing a NOOK or Kindle to do so) on The Life and Times Of Yeshua/Hebrew culture.
Thank you for your sarcastic and enlightening response. Have A Nice Day. R/Janey
Gold and stuff???? I went to Catholic schools and all the Nuns that I saw had black robes, some white trim around the face, a Rosary....black, and the little rope thing representing their vows....NO gold things
Okay, thanks for your post. I’m still researching. I can understand dressing up for respect. My query is why the fancy robes and hat. It is true that the priests in the Temple wore elaborate robes and the breast plate with the Urim and Thummim; but that was then in Hebrew culture, this is now.
Church history just says they decided to wear this and that. What has it got to do with the elaborate robes and hats that have been designed and worn? They’re not described in the Bible. Folks back then were basically dirt poor. Even the disciples. So my query is why the elaborate costumes when the original founders of the church (Yeshua and His disciples) wore basic robes. So far all I’ve received in posts are pretty much sarcastic replies. R/Janey
Gee, wow! Okay. Sorry I ruffled your feathers. Have A Nice Christian Day. R/Janey
