U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is "not Christian" because of his views on immigration, Pope Francis said on his way back to Rome from Mexico.
"A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian," Francis said in answer to a specific question about Trump's views. "This is not in the gospel."

I’m a thankful Catholic. I am also thankful Trump is running for president so I can thankfully vote for him twice.
Wait...what happened to, “Who am I to judge?”
Being this is Thursday the pope just gave Trump the news cycle from today probably through the weekend
There is no point in arguing. The solution is simple and respectful to the Pope. We should adopt the immigration policy of the Vatican and build a wall that is not one inch taller than the one the Pope has. The President can even promise to have no more armed guards than the Pope has. In respect to Climate Change, the President can pledge to have no bigger jet than the Pope has and no larger on the ground entourage than the Pope has.
Kid diddling isn’t in the Gospel either
“Vatican should do Garage sale, I can bet it can feed poor of Mexico, Brazil, Guatemala for ages.”
I always said that about the Taj Mahal. No one should go hungry in India.
Thanks for the bump, Pope
If your best hope for Teddy is clinging to Iowa I have no further advice for you. LOL!
So lawbreaking is Christian as is aiding and abetting lawbreaking? I am no Trump fan but this is ridiculous. I would like the Pope to quote the Scripture that says a wall in unchristian. Actually it sounds like he is saying that political/legal position makes a person NOT Christian, not just unchristian. Even worse. That’s one unrecognizable gospel the Pope is putting out.
Not that I think Trump has any idea of the gospel, either. Still, that’s not the point.
Jeb is correct.
Apparently Francis' "Who am I to judge?" sanctimony only applies to those whom he likes.
Pope John Paul defied and challenged actual Communist dictators while Francis embraces them!
Not only did he accept, as a gift, a communist desecrated crucifix, but he wore one around his neck.
The Pope has done a great favor to Trump today.
He’s been a better advocate for Trump than Trump is.
Trump is going off the deep end by re-fighting Iraq and 9-11 for no particular purpose.
But the Pope. Hey, he’s made everyone defend Trump.
I don’t know if Trump is a Christian or not.
I do know that the Pope is an idiot. He lives behind a 50 ft wall.
The LAST advise anyone actually thinking needs is from a trump lemming gleefully marching toward the cliff.
Jerusalem is a walled city, not that the wall still serves its original purpose.
geeez......... Fidel is still kicking???? he’s been a pain in the a$$ since I was in GRADE SCHOOL (50 years ago)
So Francis is as stupid as Cruz and Beck who passed out Teddy Bears and Soccer balls.
Lot of that stupidity going around these days, especially among those who like to hide their real agenda behind what they claim are their Christian values.
Anyone who listened to Fatima and Our Lady of Good Success knew this was coming to Rome and knew just about when it would arrive.
LOL!
Actually, Francis and Trump have in common the fact that they can be pretty confusing. Does Francis really approve of the reception of Holy Communion by the divorced and remarried or not? Will Trump back funding of Planned Parenthood because they do such “great things” other than abortion, although they're the biggest abortion provider in the world? Trump has flip flopped on this recently, never mind his past words and actions. He thinks his sister would be a good Supreme Court appointee, even though she is radically pro partial birth abortion. I find Trump to be such an unknown quantity on the life issue as well as other issues. In addition, to me, he seems very much like an ends justify the means type of individual.
Our faith requires that our precious votes be informed by our faith. IOW, a vote is a morally terrible thing to waste. What I ask you to do, as a fellow Catholic and conscientious American, is to think about the best direction in which to cast your vote, not based on a reaction to Francis’ statements, but rather based on our faith, our country's founding documents, good citizenship, common sense, and the facts. Last but not least, pray on it - the continued existence of our country depends on the continued blessings and mercy of God.
