"You were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance" (Eph. 1:13-14).
The Holy Spirit is God's first installment on your eternal inheritance.
The Holy Spirit's ministry in your life is multifaceted and profound. Among other things He brings salvation, conviction, guidance, and strength. He indwells and equips you for spiritual service and gives assurance of your salvation. He is your Helper and Advocate. He is the Spirit of promise, who seals you until the day when your redemption is fully realized (Eph. 4:30).
Sealing speaks of security, authenticity, ownership, and authority. Ancient kings, princes, and nobles placed their official seal on documents or other items to guarantee their inviolability. To break the seal was to incur the wrath of the sovereign whom it represented (cf. Dan. 6:17; Matt. 27:62-66).
A seal on a letter authenticated it as from the hand of the one whose seal it bore. Legal documents such as property deeds and wills were often finalized with an official seal. Those who possessed the sealed decree of a king had the king's delegated authority to act on that decree.
Each of those aspects of sealing is a picture of the Spirit's ministry. He is God's guarantee that your salvation is inviolable and that you are an authentic member of His kingdom and family. You are His possession-having been purchased with His Son's precious blood (1 Cor. 6:20). You are His ambassador with delegated authority to proclaim His message to a lost world (2 Cor. 5:20).
The Spirit is the pledge of your eternal inheritance (Eph. 1:14). The Greek word translated "pledge" in that verse (arrabon) was used of down payment or earnest money given to secure a purchase. Rejoice in the assurance that God, who cannot lie (Titus 1:2), has given you His Spirit as a guarantee that He will keep His promises.
Suggestions for Prayer
Praise God for the security of your eternal inheritance. Praise the Spirit for His many ministries in your life. Be sensitive to His leading today so that your ministry to others will be powerful and consistent with His will.
For Further Study
Read Esther chapters 3, 8. What role did the king's signet ring play in the decree of Haman (chapter 3)? The decree of Ahasuerus and Mordecai (chapter 8)?
Reading comprehension lessons are in order for you.
I never said I was only Catholic for a few months.
Mark asked how long after I got saved that I lasted in the WBR aka the Catholic church, and I answered that I only lasted a few months AFTER I got saved.
Y'all seem to have the same problem understanding Mary.
OK, so if salvation is not works based, then there’s no need for the Catholic church, baptism, communion, confirmation, last rites, confession, penance, acts of mercy, praying, rosaries, attending mass every Sunday, etc,. etc, etc.
There's not a knowledgeable Catholic who ever existed that believed that......ever
"With equal truth may it be also affirmed that, by the will of God, Mary is the intermediary through whom is distributed unto us this immense treasure of mercies gathered by God, for mercy and truth were created by Jesus Christ.(6) Thus as no man goeth to the Father but by the Son, so no man goeth to Christ but by His Mother. I'll let the reader draw their own conclusions.
And yet; you chosen religion produces SO many UNknowledgeable Catholics!
Wanna try to explain that?
And it has ZERO evidence to prove it.
Evidence?
We donn need no steenkin' EVIDENCE!!!
No, she was in seat 4. See, you can't even count right :-)
Actually, you are right. I was more interested in watching the females, than I was in paying attention in religion class. What little time that I WAS paying attention, it was explained that when Jesus died, He made it possible, that through my good works, I could work my way to Heaven.
I don't know if it was 90% to 10% faith vs works, or 80/20 or 70/30. Whatever percentage, it was, it is STILL a WBR. I want 100% to 0%. It's all or nothing.
I know you have said before, that means we can get saved and live any kind of way we want. Let's put that rumor to rest. Absolutely, totally, completely, 100% NO WAY. Not now, not ever. We do, as you said, show God thanks and gratitude by our good works. We don't do good works to get saved, or to stay saved, but BECAUSE we are saved. Again, we are not discussing brain surgery here.
I was so paranoid, that when I spilled holy water on the ground, I was scared that God was going to zap me for committing a mortal sin of sacralige, for desecrating the holy water. I don't think God was all that concerned about the holy water. OK, I guess.
RARE???
you make kitty laugh!
Holey water...
I was one of those UNknowledgeable ones, because I believed what Ealgeone posted in 143.
Who knows, maybe if I had paid attention in religion class, instead of looking at the girls, I might have come to a different conclusion, but then again, maybe not.
:-)
You can still choose to reject the gift that has been freely offered.
But God has a better plan. He does the choosing.........
Rom 9:18 So you see, God chooses to show mercy to some, and He chooses to harden the hearts of others so they refuse to listen.
Rom 9:19 Well then, you might say, âWhy does God blame people for not responding? Havenât they simply done what He makes them do?â
Rom 9:20 No, donât say that. Who are you, a mere human being, to argue with God? Should the thing that was created say to the One who created it, âWhy have you made me like this?â
Rom 9:21 When a potter makes jars out of clay, doesnât He have a right to use the same lump of clay to make one jar for decoration and another to throw garbage into?
Rom 9:22 In the same way, even though God has the right to show His anger and His power, He is very patient with those on whom His anger falls, who are destined for destruction.
Rom 9:23 He does this to make the riches of His glory shine even brighter on those to whom He shows mercy, who were prepared in advance for glory.
Rom 9:24 And we are among those whom He selected, both from the Jews and from the Gentiles.
Catholicism offered me virtually the ONLY way of making it.
I would not claim either as a reason to enter heaven. So what does get one in heaven?
I will E-mail the Vatican as we speak....the millions of dollars that they spend on buildings, salaries whatever, could be better spent, until they dried up, on preventing global warming. In today's reading, Nehemiah, it says that he read from the book of the law of God INTERPRETING IT so that all could understand what was read. Kind of sounds like what the Catholic church does...gives you a PROPER interpretation of scripture....unlike the one that you or your next door neighbor, or your sister-in-law, or your store clerk or.......you get the idea.
You were influenced by Pharasees????uh-h-h-h-h-h...O.K..
Christ founded the Catholic church, He and the early leaders obviously laid out a road to salvation through that church, certain rituals were developed through the centuries for various reasons, and no, one was not advised to go their own way and try to figure it out for themselves. If that were promoted, who knows how many PROTESTANT denominations would spring out of the woodwork.
Spell it right dude, but yes, I was influenced by Pharisees. They were called priest and nuns. And yes, it is OK.
:-)
Good question!!
If anyone tells you...
1 Corinthians 2:9...be very suspicious.
But as it is written: "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him."
Sola WHAT???
I'd have to agree with that.
And global warming is the biggest scam going.
Kind of sounds like what the Catholic church does...gives you a PROPER interpretation of scripture....unlike the one that you or your next door neighbor, or your sister-in-law, or your store clerk or.......you get the idea.
And just where does one find the official, Vatican approved exposition and *PROPER* verse by verse interpretation of the Bible?
