The sanctimony is unbecoming.

WOW!

That was some hate filled screed against God and demonstrates a deep satanic sickness in your heart...and brain.

Life is brief.

Eternity is forever.

You could always dig him up and castrate him, if that would make you feel any better.

Many folks on this site are at the age where the music of the 60s and 70s shaped us or formed us, or at least we really loved it a lot, as we too were struggling with our own sins, not always knowing the best direction to take in a myriad of [what were] bad offerings made to us.

So when you show profound disrespect to David Bowie, you are sort of dissing a lot of other people in the same breath.

And it doesn’t really matter what type of person he “was” anyway; it only matters which direction he is taking right now, and if enough people pray for his soul [this is where Catholics come in], the quicker David can see [and sing and play for] the heavens above.

I appreciate your post. I was baptized & married in the Episcopalian Church, but it was a very liberal church experience & I would be a liar if I said I go to church. I don’t. I do try ( & often fail miserably) to do good, to help out people & animals & to live a decent life. I live in a glass house, no two ways about it. But I always thought that a true Christian did not judge, they left that to God. That is why so many of these posts are just wrong.

The ironic thing is that I’m not even a big Bowie fan. I like some of his music (his soundtrack to “Cat People” w/ Nastassja Kinski I remember loving. I have loved iman forever.) I can think of some political figures that I would not weep over should they pass. I will feel sadness for their loved ones & I will refrain from disparaging them. They deserve grace as much as people I care about. I guess if this is “Christianity,” it’s a bastardized version of what I thought it was.

I will disagree & say to me it was written as a holier than thou screed. Are any of us the same person we were when we were young(er ;). I would bet most of us have utterly cringe inducing memories that make us say, “What oh what was I thinking?” We are the sum of our experiences.......the good, the bad,& the ugly. Those things have made us who we are. He sounds like in his later years he was a low key family man w/ a beloved wife, daughter & friends who paint him as a generous & kind person.

It is easy & cheap to present oneself as holier than thou. I will take the people who live, make mistakes & find out what a good life means. Nanny nanny boo boos are the Debbie Downers of every facet of life. We do wrong, most of us right the ship. For some it takes longer. The Fisher boys of the world are not providing guidance, they are pointing fingers.

Thank you! I appreciate your post as well. A good friend of mine [a baptised Catholic] told me recently she rarely, if ever, attends church with her [Lutheran] husband anymore, and then stated the following [which your commentary reminded me of right away]:

“Our parents taught us it’s how you live your life everyday and how you treat people. How do they treat animals? How do they treat waitresses, clerks, etc?”

I thought it was interesting how you both mentioned people (and animals!!) .. (as I sit typing with a cat on my lap).

Ha, cat behind my head! Your friend is so right. Young women can get a good gauge on a date’s character by: going to a store & seeing how he treats the clerk. I was a waitress & will rethink a friendship or at least not go out to eat if they are poor tippers or rude. Animals instinctively know about certain people. They cower, act strange. Check them out around young children. Tell your friend she is right on the money!

To those convinced David Bowie is destined to Hell, I'd ask, "What is the meaning of the necklace around his neck?"

Did he get to Heaven on his good works? Certainly not! None of us do.
Isaiah 64:4-6

Our salvation and redemption comes through God's grace.
Ephesians 2:4-9

We must be careful not to judge.
Matthew 7:1-5

Kind of hard to do that now, since he was cremated.

His glam stuff was not my favorite.

There was a song he did on Low called “Warszawa” (Warsaw) where he took the melody from a Polish folk song, he said of the song,
“In that tune [Warszawa], I wanted to express the feelings of people who yearn to be free, they can smell the scent of freedom...but they can’t reach it.”

When I played it again this week and heard this hauntingly beautiful tribute to a city that had seen Hell, I broke out in tears.

That’s the Bowie I choose to remember.

Why do you feel you are a member of the Posting Police, calling in mumblebummer as your 'muscle?'

Normally, I trash mumble.

In this case, the blogpimp started with two quick strikes:

1. nothing but clickbait
2. trashing the dead guy

You might see from my posting history that I'm my own muscle, BTW.

I felt the transgression was egregious enough to feed him to mumble. :)

I wasn’t familiar with this song or the story behind it; glad to have heard it:

I certainly lived a life like any monster until I was redeemed. Ask most of the people I ran with back in those days and they’ll remember my debauched lifestyle. Twenty years later and the same people can remember what I did back then but never take the time to check in the present. David Bowie certainly lived the kind of life described above but it is no one’s part except God’s to condemn his soul. Many people find redemption in their final years, months, weeks and days and even minutes. I hope that David found Jesus before he died, the same way I pray for all people to do the same. That includes islamofascists, liberals, abortionists and fill in any blank you please.

Yes, I love that - my wife is Polish, born in 1970 and grew up in the heady days of Solidarity and freedom. She was arrested at age 15 and spent the night in a cell and interrogated by the Communist police for daring to put up posters criticising the government. A feisty Polish lady and my life’s love :-)

If anything, I think the fact that after all that, Bowie settled down and lived the life of devoted husband and father and pretty much gave up his public life in his final years, is a testament that even after all his questioning of conventions that indeed, the traditional family life is best. There’s no question that the last part of his life was his happiest, for he got to do the things he missed out on when he was in his coke-induced haze in the 70s.

Sorry, I value his posts. He’s no “blog pimp.” He’s been posting here for a while. He used to post full articles. Not sure why he no longer is.

I’ll look again, but what he did was identify Bowie’s past proclivities.

I pray that David repented and found the Lord and salvation. I am unaware of any evidence that he did so.

My sympathies for the family.
