Catholicism is not a denomination because it's the Church Christ instituted. Other Christian sects arose from it.
The Catholic Church is a sect that arose from the Church that Christ established. The Reformation is an event that broke away from that sect.

That is totally wrong. Christ established the Catholic Church on the twelve Apostles, the first Bishops. There were no other religions until Luther did his thing. Everyone was CATHOLIC!
