If it is on the 23rd of September does that mean it starts tomorrow night at sunset, and go through the 23rd? Or does it start Wednesday at sunset and go through the sunset the following night?
Just curious...was this a way to account for the leap days and extra days necessary to keep the Hebrew calendar in line with the orbit of the planet?

The Hebrew calendar is more-or-less lunar and seasonal. It only is indirectly related to the solar year.
Romans, et al, worshiped the Sun as deity, hence a better solar calendar.

Thanks for the ping and information, ZC. Besides respecting certain days, each of us should also repent after doing anything wrong any time. Prophets also warned against sacrifices without sincerity and advocated for real repentance and cessations of wrongdoings being most important.

IMO, Yom Kippur is a direct dialog with HaShem. The subject is atonement. I can’t think of anything more spiritual, and I always feel ready with a clear mind, body, and soul at the conclusion of Yom Kippur.

Vermont,I am not that smart to know that!
But, from what I have observed, every three years there appears to be a 13th month and that straightens things up.
So, it goes 354 days for a couple and then 384. And that will average out to about 365.
When one takes the normal 354 luni-solar days in a year and add the solar year 365 days- average them together and it is 360- which I believe scripture can show is the ‘original’ year.
When did it stop being 360? Who knows.. The flood?
I don’t know.
There is an interesting side point that fits this too.
Last year 2014, right around Rosh Hashanah (1st Day of 7th Month) there was a sign in the sky- the woman clothed with the sun and the moon ‘under her feet’. Revelation 12 sign above our heads!
And a partial of that ‘sign’ occurred right around Rosh Hashanah this year, but the full sign won’t happen like it happened in 2014 until October 2015.
It notes that another month is added.
It goes back to being at Rosh Hashanah in 2016!
That little observation lends itself to an amazing view of the gospel and plan He placed in His Sky..
A couple thousand years ago, Israel observed Passover in His 1st month when His sun was traveling through the Ram...
In the 7th month, for Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Booths?
The sign above was the ‘scales’/balance.. The woman was not in the 7th month, but the 6th.
Today, in this ‘age’, Passover is observed while the sun is traveling through the Two Fish..
And Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Booths when the sun is traveling through ‘The Woman’ has moved to the 7th month (and at times also the 8th too-)
Old Testament- Then-
Lamb and Scales/balance of sin leveled with Atonement!
New Testament-Now-
Fishers of Men and The Bride/church!
All up there while Israel observes His Feasts..as a witness for all.
And a couple shakes of this earth and it will change again- and the Scripture tells us what comes next - and so does His Sky..
An outpouring of His Spirit and the Return of the Lion of Judah!
Again, if pattern holds, it is set around His Feasts. When ? Even I thought I knew, I would not say a thing. It could all start as soon as He Wills.
And I am just a guy who asked Him what a New Moon Day was-if it wasn’t one of His 6 work day or a Sabbath, there isn’t much left on the world’s calendar. He gave me the answer and so much more!
A Bible, a concordance and a free downloaded computer app (so I could follow what was going on up there in His sky) and faith to follow His template when the world doesn’t, is what I used. And He provided the rest! And will for anyone..
He isn’t a respecter of persons if I can know this after 3 short years.
And I still have lots of questions.
But His template revealed what the 30/60/100 means in a Natural sense for His Parable of the Sower too.
Again, something Judaism and Christianity can’t teach right now. But when they do?! Boy will that be a blessed time for Jew and Gentile together..
United in Truth that points both to Moses and Israel, and their journey; and The King and His Kingdom and our journey. All at the same time.
