**A lay person should never undertake to drive out demons except by the following simple formula: I command you, all evil spirits to leave me at once in the name of Jesus Christ the Lord. At no time should a lay person ever engage a demon in conversation, ask questions, or in any way seek information.**
How does he explain Psalm 139:21-22?
I had heard about that. I think you can hear chants under the breath of some of the public during visits from our President as he goes around begging for cash and soon from a certain dignitary coming from withing some walls in Italy.
Monsignor Pope Ping!
Monsignor has a question/comment page at his site. Do you want to ask him?
Accuser of the Faithful
Same for Muslims. They are unwitting servants of Satan in most cases. We should pray for them, not hate them, but not hesitate to take whatever steps are necessary to stop the evil they bring.
Bump
Love your enemies, pray for those who persecute you ...
Mohammedans? May Our Lord Jesus Christ grant them the grace of repentance and conversion.
Interesting. Bookmarked.
Another Great Article, Thanks Again!
A new Msgr. Pope article on exorcism
It is something of a pity that the great Catholic demonologies have somewhat fallen by the wayside. The flip side of hagiographies of the saints, demonologies described the purposes and modus operandi of individual and collective demons.
The utility of both was first, that if a demon or demons were recognized, there was typically an individual saint whose virtue was particularly effective against that or those demons.
For the learned laity, the value was in detecting them, so that they could more accurately describe the pestilence or injury to clergy, helping them to divine possible causes and remedies.
My pleasure. There’s a lot to digest on that page ,huh?
There have been people from a neighboring diocese (another state) come to try to get our diocese to train and install a team of exorcists. As far as I know, it hasn’t happened yet.
Every diocese used to have one.
Is this what you're referring to? Not sure how it exactly relates to the article. Can you explain?
Compared to some others, this one was fairly cut and dry... But very enjoyable and educating. Just wish I had a better memory over time...
That is why I often say, “pray for the CONVERSION of ALL to CHRIST.”
Thanks for the ping. Jesus was an exorcist, and He gave His disciples authority to cast out evil spirits.
“And yet the exorcist must be careful not to hate demons or harbor unjust anger toward them.
Same for Muslims. They are unwitting servants of Satan in most cases. We should pray for them, not hate them, but not hesitate to take whatever steps are necessary to stop the evil they bring.”
I do also add,as another 9/11 anniversary comes around this coming Friday,I and many others may have thoughts of anger, hate, and or thoughs of desiring revenge, we will need all the more to pray for one another.
