In fact, we were just discussing how trail life USA is fulfilling Baden-Powell’s vision.

My 17 year old son is 5 badges and one project away from being an Eagle Scout. He has worked so hard over the years to accomplish this. It’s so frustrating!

While there are indications that the BSA has a religious organization exception, which each local troop could invoke, that will provide no protection for any of our parishes and/or schools, which sponsor troops. Thus, effective immediately, the Catholic Church of the Diocese of Bismarck and each and every one of its parishes, schools and other institutions, is formally disaffiliated with and from the Boy Scouts of America. If your parish sponsors a troop, your priest has been asked to inform those persons associated with the BSA of this action and to inform the BSA itself of this decision. I regret my decision but, in conscience as the Chief Shepherd of the Diocese of Bismarck, I cannot permit our Catholic institutions to accept and participate directly or indirectly in any organization, which has policies and methods, which contradict the authoritative moral teachings of the Catholic Church..." -Bishop David D. I believe the secular Left has no moral compass, no ethics or no scruples. With them, it's just let everyone do what they want and everybody have a good time with no cultural mores or limits.

This is evidenced by their embracing the killing of babies through abortions every year and now embracing the revelations that their pet project, Planned Parenthood, has been exposed on tape, unethically and unlawfully, haggling over dead baby cadavers and various body parts to sell at a profit.

The Left is disgusting in their depravity and turning a blind eye to the destruction of our civilized society into moral chaos. I believe the BSA decision to open their membership and leadership to openly gay boys and men, is just one part of the whole picture that the secular, "progressive" left has unleashed on our country.

Here is a question, do the scouts own the copyright to the scout materials? (badges, images, etc) It would seem it would make sense for the scouts to have a $1 license deal (iow a payment in name only) and let the fragmentation begin without issues.

Now we will have a few, very few, sane groups with a slew of crackpot wanabes.

The liberals want to destroy all traditions, institutions and principles we hold dear...and they're eminently successful at what they do.

I don't think they'll get away with the destruction of the Boy Scouts, although it may be too late now.

Both clergy and laity saw this coming a long time ago.....and did nothing. We were commenting on this on FR for what seems like ages.

This Catholic churchman is to be lauded....but the damage may have been done to the point it can't be un-damaged.

I pray the historic Boy Scout program will yet survive the onslaught of destruction aimed at it.

Bravo! I am thrilled that our Bishop has taken this step. I am also saddened that the BSA has made it necessary, but the moral well being of our children is far more important.

Trail life USA is a brand new Christian outdoor scouting program for boys ages 5-17.

The program is strong and masculine. I’m writing this from my hammock deep in the woods of south central PA. We’re here with 8 high school age boys for a few days of adventure beginning with a 2 day backpack trek
