First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem seeks to leave national Presbyterian Church
The Morning Call (Allentown, PA) ^ | 8/4/2015 | Sarah M. Wojcik

Posted on 08/04/2015 11:05:04 AM PDT by Kevin C

The largest Presbyterian church in the Lehigh Valley has begun a process that could lead to a split from the most visible national denomination — a move initiated after a survey showed most of its congregants disagree with church positions, including those allowing same-sex marriage and the ordination of gay ministers.

Makes sense because I did see some extended discussion of deaconesses on the OCP site.

We have this same debate within the Catholic Church...everyone knows there are references to female deacons in early Church history. The question is were they fully ordained the way male deacons were, or unordained and just called deacons by analogy?

Good to see some denominations standing firm on this.

Man you’re uptight

Sober, sincere...yet not really uptight at all. Unless having the awareness of the gravity of any FReeper losing their eternal soul by never becoming part the Church founded by Jesus Christ has to be accompanied by expressions matching your sense of what's humorous (lol) in order to avoid being uptight.

Does it?

Follow the money. . .many times it is supporting the World Council of Churches. If you don’t like where it is going. . . .get out sooner rather than later. If you can’t even own your own building after pouring all the hard earned dollars and labor into it. . .why belong to a denomination like that. I would do some doctrinal research. Many sitting in the pews don’t have a clue what their church believes. We are making the tenants of our faith available to church members and non members in an easy to read format. . . Salvation, baptism, Holy Spirit, church membership, teaching, deacons, marriage, etc., etc. It is tied to everything we do.

Well first you should stop assuming and judging.

I was laughing that the other poster thought all those churches were false. Not that people losing salvation was funny. Notice I was the only one to challenge. Learn some grace and drop the attitude.

To: driftdiver; 2nd Amendment

Why do you ask if all Baptist churches fail? Don’t Baptists believe all four of those points 2nd Amendment posted?

What does that mean? Can you express your thought in a more readily understandable manner?

How do you tell if someone else is saved?

Above my pay grade.

In fact, we are told we can’t.

BUT, if someone is causing havoc in the church and rejects Biblical church disciple we are told to cast them out.

But you felt it was within your pay grade to determine certain people had never been saved??? Please clarify for us.

The Bible teaches that too.

We don’t know who they are. But if they walk away and never return, they were never saved. I think I provided the passages above that cover that, with one exception:

1 John 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us..

In post 24 you said “They never truly believed.”

You are judging. I’m sure you know the bible verse on Gods guidance on whether we should determine if other people are worthy of Gods grace or if they are saved.
