A Kentucky coal miner died after refusing treatment for a Sunday-morning snake bit.
John David Brock, a member of the Holiness faith, was bitten by a rattlesnake and died four hours later, according to a CBS affiliate.
Brock had other health problems, and the official cause of death will be determined from medical records.
Snake-handling churches emerged in the early 20th century. It gained popularity in the last few years through the reality show Snake Salvation. The pastor in Snake Salvation, Jamie Coots, died of a snake bite in 2014.
The CBS affiliate says Brock is the second person to die of a snake bite this year in his congregation.
What a terrible misunderstanding of God.
This is superstition and not real religion.
I just never understood that phenomenon.
the wrong David Brock.
It is a religion that really does exist, but it isn’t a true expression of Christianity.
Did not Jesus say “Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God?”
Misplaced literalism.
Can you expand?
Mat 4:5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
Mat 4:6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Mat 4:7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

I wonder what his Freepname was?
People from far away lands inhabited by people whom Americans consider exotic, bizarre and uncivilized, like the kind who wear bones through their noses, now enjoy exposure to news from outside their remote and isolated habitat. They see things like this, and think “What a crazy place America is. What weird people live there.”
41:016:015 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
41:016:016 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
41:016:017 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
41:016:018 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
41:016:019 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
41:016:020 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Yep. And even a careful review of the disputed scripture still doesn’t demand testing fate with snakes any more than it requires poisoning oneself.
In its best light it would relate to Paul’s experience after shipwreck on Malta(?) when he was bitten by a snake. It was accidental from a pile of wood, iirc. He wasn’t tempting that snake to bite him.
Didn’t they have the bronze snake up on the staff to look at?
They worship Darwin.
Zot!
