Monsignor Pope Ping!
This would be an excellent video to share with youth groups and young adult worshippers. It does not apply just to Mass
In my church, some wear suits while others look like they just got off their tractor. I go by the bible’s dress code.
How do I dress for church?
Well, I guess like most men I put my pants on one leg at a time. I put a shirt on, tuck it in. Put on some shoes and socks.
Why?
How many of these Christian observations are found in the New Testament Covenant?
Sandals and a robe?
I moved to Florida in Nov 2007. Spent a few Sundays visiting different churches...looking for a home. Up north, it was ALWAYS jacket and tie for the men, except in the summer, as our AC was somewhat iffy, we were allowed to dispense with the tie. So, my first Christmas Eve service down here..I’m wearing a navy blazer, tan slacks, starched collar shirt, and my favorite Santa tie...I’m the ONLY guy in the church wearing a tie...and I’m astonished to see MEN in Bermuda shorts..teenagers in tee shirts and flip-flops..
Give God your best. You have to decide what that means.
Very comfy, especially in KY’s hot and humid Summers ...
Even in my wayward hippie daze, when I DID feel guilty (rare) or tender (not so rare) and I felt a desire or need to "go to church", I put on my least ripped/torn jeans and cleanest shirt ... not really looking at myself from the outside in, but from the inside out ... I knew I had on my best .... and that was all that mattered.
America's falling away from church had the unintended consequence of falling away from proper dress
I remember that even while publicly travelling ... airplane or bus (I did both as a 50's child), you dressed up just like going to church
America USED TO BE a decent nation .....
Before we hippies came along as devil's deciples and thoroughly screwed EVERYBODY'S brain up
We’re Eastern Orthodox... They even say:
No chewing gum
Don’t sit with your legs crossed
You are like one of the comments on the website. The comment was how would we dress to attend the Oscars or something at the White House.
Isn’t God greater than either of these? Then why not dress accordingly for God?
I’m not Catholic.
I never wear jeans to a Sunday service.
Always khakis or slacks.
Always a button down shirt, and most often with a blazer.
In hot weather I might wear a classic Cuban or subdued Hawaiian style shirt.
It’s a personal choice, and an increasingly unique one.
As the priest talks about the different kind of cassock he wears for the summer in Washington D. C. — can comfortable clothes still be modest?
Back in the 50s 60s when I went to Catholic school if possible we were suppose to show up at Mass on Sunday at a prescribed time and sit with our class. A shirt and tie was mandatory. Though if we were doing something with the family we were allowed to go at a different time as long as we went. I don’t remember anyone going to mass in jeans or t-shirts then.
As a lapsed Catholic, when I do attend now.....I see people dressed from very dressed up to very sloppy. I suppose God does not condemn on that account
Try going to a Catholic church with no walls.

St. Mary Gate of Heaven located on Topsail Island in Surf City, NC sits on land that was purchased in 1947 by Bishop Vincent Waters, Bishop of Raleigh. The building itself is a former WWII military barracks purchased from Camp Davis in Holly Ridge, NC.
That was the LAST time I’ve ever worn a tie down here...
