On June 27, 2015 five out nine Supreme Court Justices redefined the definition of marriage for the entire country. This video discusses the areas in which this decision affects the Catholic Church.

Since Catholics have been voting for it for years as democrats, it probably won’t mean anything to most of them.
RC FB friends and family have applauded the ruling...so nice for gay people ..
So..
Both you and this dude in the video figure we are so stupid that we need y’all to explain things to us?
Well to hell with that.
Who exactly do you think you ARE anyway?
Let the JPs marry people ... and then have wedding recognized by the church a separate event ..
Of course the state might not like that much because I suspect there will be some that will choose to skip the state wedding
Why do you think we are dumbasses that need you to explain things to us?
That’s a fine thing, but it won’t satisfy them.
It means bad things for the Church. Of course, the Protestant Church in France is rushing to embrace this.
They can not make ministers be state employees.. They will just have to stop signing all marriage certificates.. In Europe..the state wedding is separate than the religious one.. may be what we will have to have here
No, the Catholic Church will not change. What will probably happen is that there will be a challenge of a gay wedding somewhere, then a lawsuit, then the Catholic Church will drop its tax exempt status and stand firm for traditional marriage. Or there might be only legal marriage and no more Holy Matrimony.
Our priest spent nearly 20 minutes on this at a daily Mass today. He wont be here this weekend since he is traveling to Chicago for the weekend to be with an aunt who is dying. So we will get our Sunday sermon on this next week.
Watch it play out.
Think back to the sexual abuse and how it insidiously began with one case.
Same thing will happen here....they hate the Catholic Church because it stands for truth. So they (the homosexuals) will attack.
What do you mean there will be no more Holy Matrimony? The Church won’t drop a sacrament. I may just be misunderstanding your comment. I do know they’ll lose their tax status so the charities and hospitals will suffer. But I’m sure gay men will pick up the slack!
I don’t think the Catholic Church will lose its tax status, but I do think that the CC will withdraw priests from being the state agents for marriage. So we will end up with the same situation as exists elsewhere.
Just out of curiousity, are your RC friends and family serious Catholics who attend Mass regularly (like every Sunday)?
The reason I ask is that there is a serious divide between Catholics who attend Mass regularly and those who don’t. The latter are the ones who lean way more Democrat.
It means the Catholic Church is irrelevant.
It will depend on the parish, maybe the diocese. Some will go gay, some will not.
Use the term “Holy Matrimony”, or “The Sacrament of Holy Matrimony” and the Feds no longer have any say in the matter.
My priest laughed years ago at the prospect of being forced to perform gay marriage.
He said he’d die first as would many of his fellow priests.
After listening to Pope Francis this last week or so I figure he will sanction Gay marriage before the end of the year.
what difference does it make?
All the Catholic Church is interested in money/
