Having wasted over an hour of my life, I now can say that I have read Laudato Si. It is the Popes latest verbose tome of an encyclical, which: espouses global warming alarmism, calls for international organizations to police climate change, and waxes poetic about people leading animals to God. In short it is as if Al Gore, Karl Marx, and Teilhard de Chardin wrote an encyclical. Whats worse is that because it came from a Pope, otherwise sane and rational people are actually taking it seriously.

Fantastic read - thanks for posting.
My wife was talking about the modernization of her home town in Southeast Asia during the 20th century. The two pieces of modern machinery that made the most beneficial contribution to the average person’s life were a gas engine operated cultivator and the pickup truck. The cultivator freed up a lot of labor time that was used to produce other products and the pickup gave the farmer the ability to market their produce to a wide area and get a better price than the middlemen offered. Their rice, vegetables and fruit could be directly taken to the larger markets and directly sold.
Both the cultivator and the pickup are major sources of CO2, not to mention the construction of roads and small manufacturing plants located in the villages. Habitat destruction.
Not to mention the scream of the butterfly.
Um.....wait......what?
Whoa. Now it's personal.
.
And the wail of the banshee.
‘MHaving wasted over an hour of my life, I now can say that I have read Laudato Si. It is the Popes latest verbose tome of an encyclical,’
One can be quite certain that many of the blthering, blabbing pundits have not done so
Anyone who says anything about this encyclical should be asked 1 What is an encyclical, 2 Is it considered infallible, 3 Have they read any other of the many papal encyclicals, 4 Just how many are there and are they ignored as massively as Humanae Vitae?
All should be asked why do so many in the Church ignore the encyclicals, most importantly, Humanae Vitae,
In my entire church going life I’ve heard reference to encyclicals once from the priest in the pulpit. Once I was told that it is incompatible with Catholicism to vote for a pro abortion candidate over one who is not
This encyclical can certainly be ignored as much as the one warning very logically against birth control
A worthy read. Though there were some points I agreed with most of the Encyclical caused me to feel uneasy. I just could not figure out why. Now I know. Thanks.
Since the encyclical denigrates air conditioning, the author logically suggests that the Pope and all who support this document turn off their air conditioning during the summer. In addition, I think it would be logical to ask them to turn off their heating during the winter. This applies not only to homes and businesses, but also to churches.
How better to show one’s religious devotion than to attend a church with no heating?
Laudato Si is not about faith and morals and is not promulgated in union with the Bishops. It is a political opinion and is prima facie at odds with the words of Jesus Christ.
I have to remind myself that God does not make mistakes and there is a reason for this Pope. There are signs that all is not as it seems. There is the very orthodox Benedict. He abdicated but he is still there. The liberal German Bishops with vhanging alliances with the Americans and other Europeans have been trying to engineer a Modernist Marxist or at least Protestant Pope since the early 1900s at least. Perhaps it is time they get their man and the lesson that will come with it. We will know or our children or grandchildren will know why this Pope but it is only for us now to try not to be too terribly stunned; just go to mass and participate in the sacraments.
A couple of Medici Popes were rapacious rulers but did not affect the Church because they were too busy aggrandizing themselves to worry about Faith and Morals and the Magisterium. This Pope is different. He is trying to mess with the Church and is concerned with material things way beyond what any Christian teacher should be.
I read this, and compared Laudato Si to Pius XI’s “Casti Cannubii.”
Casti Cannubii, which I read only recently, was wonderful. Its logic was impeccable - it laid out the obvious truths of the natural world, basics of the Catholic faith, and together wove a highly reasoned and timeless moral argument about the sanctity of marriage, why Catholics oppose birth-control, and the evil of abortion and eugenics,
It was written in response to a specific event - the Anglicans allowing birth control at their Lambeth conference, but Casti Cannubii could have been written in 1430 as easily as in 1930 - and it will be clear and relevant in 2430 as well. It is truly what an “encyclical” should be.
I contrast it with Laudato Si, which seems emotive, muddled and relevant only a fad political and social thinking of these recent years.
The pope should read Divini Redemptoris. (Google it)
This is not an encyclical, it’s a manifesto. And like all manifestoes, it’s irrational, sophomoric and embarrassing to read.
LOL.
It sure does look like things are going that way doesn’t it.
He is a hell bound humanist/Marxist ...
