The forgiveness of Sins
Catholic.com ^ | Catholic Answers

All pardon for sins ultimately comes from Christ’s finished work on Calvary, but how is this pardon received by individuals? Did Christ leave us any means within the Church to take away sin? The Bible says he gave us two means.

Just like He spared her of the pain of child birth, he granted her a special status of not having sin, as she was humbly obedient to the God.

What a bunch of nonsense. There's not one Scriptural fact that indicate4s that Mary did not experience normal pain during childbirth.

So explain why you don’t believe the words of Jesus about the Real Presence (Human and Divine) to eat and drink His Body and Blood that He commanded us to do this in His memory?

Because eating of blood is strictly forbidden by God.

Jesus Himself called the cup *the fruit of the vine* acknowledging that it was wine, not blood.

Don't eat the blood, the life is in the blood

Genesis 9:4 But you shall not eat flesh with its life , that is, its blood.

Leviticus 3:17 It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations, in all your dwelling places, that you eat neither fat nor blood.”

Leviticus 7:26-27 Moreover, you shall eat no blood whatever, whether of fowl or of animal, in any of your dwelling places. Whoever eats any blood, that person shall be cut off from his people.”

Leviticus 17:10-14 “If any one of the house of Israel or of the strangers who sojourn among them eats any blood, I will set my face against that person who eats blood and will cut him off from among his people. For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it for you on the altar to make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life. Therefore I have said to the people of Israel, No person among you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger who sojourns among you eat blood.

“Any one also of the people of Israel, or of the strangers who sojourn among them, who takes in hunting any beast or bird that may be eaten shall pour out its blood and cover it with earth. For the life of every creature is its blood: its blood is its life. Therefore I have said to the people of Israel, You shall not eat the blood of any creature, for the life of every creature is its blood. Whoever eats it shall be cut off.

Leviticus 19:26 “You shall not eat any flesh with the blood in it. You shall not interpret omens or tell fortunes.

Deuteronomy 12:16 Only you shall not eat the blood ; you shall pour it out on the earth like water.

Deuteronomy 12:23 Only be sure that you do not eat the blood, for the blood is the life , and you shall not eat the life with the flesh.

Deuteronomy 15:23 Only you shall not eat its blood; you shall pour it out on the ground like water.

Acts 15:12-29 And all the assembly fell silent, and they listened to Barnabas and Paul as they related what signs and wonders God had done through them among the Gentiles. After they finished speaking, James replied, “Brothers, listen to me. Simeon has related how God first visited the Gentiles, to take from them a people for his name. And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written,

“‘After this I will return, and I will rebuild the tent of David that has fallen; I will rebuild its ruins, and I will restore it, that the remnant of mankind may seek the Lord, and all the Gentiles who are called by my name, says the Lord, who makes these things known from of old.’

Therefore my judgment is that we should not trouble those of the Gentiles who turn to God, but should write to them to abstain from the things polluted by idols, and from sexual immorality, and from what has been strangled, and from blood. For from ancient generations Moses has had in every city those who proclaim him, for he is read every Sabbath in the synagogues.”

Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to choose men from among them and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They sent Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, leading men among the brothers, with the following letter:

“The brothers, both the apostles and the elders, to the brothers who are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia, greetings. Since we have heard that some persons have gone out from us and troubled you with words, unsettling your minds, although we gave them no instructions, it has seemed good to us, having come to one accord, to choose men and send them to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who themselves will tell you the same things by word of mouth. For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay on you no greater burden than these requirements: that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell.”

Matthew 26:29 I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

Mark 14:25 Truly, I say to you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”

Luke 22:18 For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”

John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

Catholic apologists do not promulgate Catholic teaching. Some Catholic leaders have been wrong in their interpretations.

And just how do you determine whether they are correct or not?

They're infallible unless they're not then whether you believe it or not is up for grabs?

Sounds just like the sorts of things Catholic condemn Prots for. I guess it's a matter of *Rules for thee, but not for me*.

It's OK of RC's do it but not Prots.

There's a word for that.

It's called "hypocrisy".

It won’t because it has Scriptural support.

I sure hope God remembered to your lengthy explanation to the Church at Rome, because the letter Paul wrote them forgot it completely. It only mentioned Baptism 1 time (Romans 6:3-4)and it wasn't in reference to forgiving sins, but the Spiritual transformation that a believer undergoes (See Mark 1:8; John 3).

If your post didn't accompany letter, the Romans might have believed such heresies as:

“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” Romans 5:1-2

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” Romans 5:9-12

“But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.” Romans 5:15-19

Romans 3:23-28 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.”

"For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin." Romans 4:2-8

"But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification." Romans 4:24-25

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Romans 10:8-9

I sure hope they had a good priest to keep them from believing in that once saved faith alone heresy. At least the church in Roman is free from that now.

Very True. Much of what God did defies our reason and God warned us not to put our reasoning above his word for that reason. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5

I am a Catholic and I believe in the teachings of God and the Catholic Church and try to follow them. I truly believe that the teachings of the Catholic Church are the Truth and inspired by the Holy Spirit. I do believe and pray the Nicene Creed.

I believe that the Catholic Church was founded by Jesus Christ and guided by the Holy Spirit and that Jesus delegated to the Apostles and their successors - the bishops and priests of the Catholic Church to go out and Baptize and spread the Good News of our salvation to all nations.

I believe that the Catholic Church and its members have followed the teachings of Jesus and have spread the Good news to all nations, yet it is still a work in progress. The Catholic Church is composed of saints and sinners and in spite of our weaknesses and failures we have made progress. Not all Catholics, including myself are fully informed of all aspects of the Catholic Church.

Obviously, many have left the Catholic Church (and many have never joined the Catholic Church) and by their free will chose to follow their specific religious beliefs. Even some Catholics probably do not accept all of the teachings of the Church. God will be the judge of our faith and adherence to His commandments and our salvation.

I believe in the teachings of the Catholic Church about Mary the Mother of God and even if I can’t fully explain them to you, I have complete faith in their truth.

While I was surprised that the Bishop of Rome indicated that he would only interpret the Scriptures in accordance with the unanimous agreement of the church fathers (”nor will I ever receive and interpret them except according to the unanimous consent of the fathers.”) This may only apply to Pope Pius and may not be the official policy of the Church. With human nature as it is, it would seem difficult for everyone to agree unanimously.

I would encourage anyone who wants to be a follower of Jesus Christ to consider the Catholic Church and the wonderful Sacraments (especially the special gift of His Body and Blood) that were established by Jesus for our salvation.

Peace be with you.

ADSUM,
You have a right to choose your own faith.
I support your right.

You did close with this:

“I would encourage anyone who wants to be a follower of Jesus Christ to consider the Catholic Church and the wonderful Sacraments (especially the special gift of His Body and Blood) that were established by Jesus for our salvation.”

I would encourage anyone who wants ETERNAL LIFE to entrust themselves to the amazing Gift of Christ and to leave behind their own dead works that cannot save. Salvation is only in HIM. Not in a church. Not in a “sacrament.”

Best.

You are allowed to believe whatever you want. It is called free will. I just hope it doesn’t get you into trouble.

You are allowed to accept whatever Rome tells you. It is called Catholicism. I just hope it doesn’t get you into trouble if you try to enter the elite group known as Bereans.

“What if someone finds out?”

I remember THIS part: ...and be sure your sin will find you out.

So I decided to look it up...

Numbers 32:

20 Then Moses said to them: “If you do this thing, if you arm yourselves before the Lord for the war, 21 and all your armed men cross over the Jordan before the Lord until He has driven out His enemies from before Him, 22 and the land is subdued before the Lord, then afterward you may return and be blameless before the Lord and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the Lord. 23 But if you do not do so, then take note, you have sinned against the Lord; and be sure your sin will find you out. 24 Build cities for your little ones and folds for your sheep, and do what has proceeded out of your mouth.”

It's a bit different when you read it in context!

... has ZERO support from Scripture...

Quite the OPPOSITE; in fact!

Luke 2:22-24

When the time came for the purification rites required by the Law of Moses, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord  (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord”),  and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: “a pair of doves or two young pigeons.”

Leviticus 12:7-8

Then he shall offer it before the LORD and make atonement for her, and she shall be cleansed from the flow of her blood. This is the law for her who bears a child, whether a male or a female.
'But if she cannot afford a lamb, then she shall take two turtledoves or two young pigeons, the one for a burnt offering and the other for a sin offering; and the priest shall make atonement for her, and she will be clean.'"
