"I feel like saying something that may sound controversial or even heretical. But there is someone who knows that despite our differences we are one. It is he who is persecuting us. It is he that is persecuting Christians today; he who is anointing us with the blood of martyrdom, knows that Christians are disciples of Christ. That we are one, that we are brothers! He doesn't care if they are Evangelicals, Orthodox, Lutherans, Catholics or Apostolic. He doesn't care! They are Christians."

Honestly, E, it isn't pride. It's that former Catholics come in knocking the Church they chose to leave, when they knew little about it in the first place as evidenced by their posts.

Could not the same thing be said of Newman etal?

Being that a lot of our posters deny affiliation...

Ever wonder WHY?

On some of the interviews I've seen him on he's been hesitant to declare faith in Christ, and only Christ, as the way to salvation.

It's worse than that...

I asked my brother (a retired Bishop — yes, Catholic) and he said this statement was a bit strong, but correct.

In particular, the Pope is referencing “our persecutor” — i.e., the Devil as the entity that “doesn’t care.”

My brother agreed that the Church teaches that Christians, even those not Catholic, are (with some exceptions) Christians, and while their union with the Church is imperfect, still the enemy of the Devil and are, indeed, our brothers in Christ, despite error.

My bother did opine that “doesn’t care” was too strong, in that the Devil likes error and division, since such is a major tool in his arsenal and the error of non-Catholic Christians was a source of such, but in this loose context, not the point.

Ok, thanks. I always kind of wondered. The only time I ever saw him in action was when Nik Wallenda was crossing at the Grand Canyon. I admire Wallenda's professions of faith, praise and gratitude to God that he makes before, during and after he goes across on that wire-every time. He never forgets that God has the final word, no matter how well prepared he (Wallenda) may be, and I admire his witness-especially in times like these Before the whole world, he and his family are an example to others. I figured if Osteen was the family's spiritual director, then, well, by their fruits... It's interesting to get another perspective.

Do you perceive him then, as kind of "New Age"? Just curious.

Lol! I had a friend who did the best imitation of him:
"The Low-erd took away mah neck: but He gave may the paur ta hee-el!"

All kidding aside, and not to knock: the first time I saw the PTL Club on TV, it was late at night (early in the morning?) and I honestly thought it was a parody, like SNL, or something. I was stunned when I realized they were serious. God rest her, Tammy's hair and makeup were over the top, even for the eighties! It was really sad when she was so sick, years later. I felt so sorry for her, I think I would have rather seen the funny hair and makeup...

On a lighter note, Benny Hinn gets my funny hair vote...

Thanks and I agree. It’s just that this Pope has a habit of seeding DOUBT due to his speaking style and unwillingness to correct the record. I find that very problematic as it increases doubt and raises many questions among the faithful. The devil further uses that doubt to undermine the body of the Church.

First of all, to be truthful, I’m not as familiar with Newman as a lot of posters on both sides of his arguments. My feeling is that a person ought to know what their faith community is about, whatever it may be, and put their time in to learn about it. If one feels they do need to leave, they ought to at least get the teachings of the previous system straight, before they argue against it. Some of the comments do reflect a lack of knowledge of the basic tenets of our Faith: while one practiced Catholicism, it was their moral obligation to learn them- at least the basics. If one doesn’t know, they’re welcome to ask; all too often, though, an argument is put out in forum without the correct position of the Church being stated.

Not at all! I have several theories on that one (no DNA involved!)

We (Catholics and Mainstream Protestants) have been around for a long time. In each field, the tares have had the chance to grow in with the wheat, and the latter is easy to obliterate.

The aforementioned fields are bigger and thus easier targets to hit- both wheat and tares- in each.

Not identifying with a denomination tends to remove the bull's-eye off a person.

The worship community may be small and local, thus not known to others in forum.

The faith community one belongs to may be one that's an object of scorn on forum, and the person gets a better chance to express themselves, at least for awhile. That shouldn't make a difference, but in reality, it does happen.

One may simply be independent of a faith community, although I've always felt that belief in God should be shared, though not imposed.

Whoops, Alex, I think my time's up!

The Bible does not indicate how old they were. Remember, only two were needed...male and female.

I think someone might have skipped a couple days of Sunday school.

Genesis 7:2 "You shall take with you of every clean animal by sevens, a male and his female; and of the animals that are not clean two, a male and his female;

Genesis 7:3 also of the birds of the sky, by sevens, male and female, to keep offspring alive on the face of all the earth.

:I rally wish prots the Bible as much as they claim to.

Saved or not saved:

Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker

Jimmy Swaggert (Before, during, or after the adultery)

Peter Popoff and his magical wheelchairs.

Benny Hinn

Joel Osteen.

And for G2G Ernest Angley

Each of these men and one woman has made the claim to be saved, they have said it multiple times.

If the prots on this list are not willing to come out shouting from the rooftops that these men and women are "SAVED BY THE BLOOD OF JESUSSSSSSS!, then why should we believe them.

And by logical extension, why should we believe any of the non-Catholics here that swear up and down that they themselves are indeed saved.

"You presume full grown dinosaurs and other animals were on the ark."

Actually, I was attempting to be facetious! However, no matter how young they were, if I were Noah, and saw 2 T-Rex bounding toward me, I may have jumped ship!

I believe the Story of Noah. But I can't help it if it tickles me a little sometimes. I have read the Talmudic account, which approaches the narrative from a very respectful and heart-wrenching perspective. It really hadn't occurred to me prior to that, how much Noah and his family suffered in that ark- the terror; the sound of people clambering on the ark to try and save themselves and the helplessness of Noah to do so; the stench outside the ark of all that death around them. I also never stopped to realize just how long they were actually inside the ark: besides the 40 days of rain and turbulent waters from below, there was the time of drifting as the waters subsided; the time between landing and God permitting them to leave. Then the realization that you are the only people left, in somewhere new, to begin all over again... In the ark there were all the animals to tend to (what a wonder it must have been to see them all!!) and things must have been busy, noisy, and bustling. Then, each went their way... I just picture a time of silence, where they all just must have pondered the whole thing and wondered about it all.

I often wonder if the object on top of that mountain really is the remnants of Noah's Ark. It wouldn't shake my faith if it wasn't, but wouldn't it be something if it were? After all, aren't we all his descendants? It really makes me feel a connection- to everything and everybody. I pray for the day Jesus returns and gives us all a fresh start, too...

Lol at the bad toupee! You'd think wealthy people would get better hairpieces- you see it all over! Anybody remember "Night Court" when "Bull" got himself the "Shatner Turbo 2000"? Retro ROTFL!

On the serious side, I think, sadly, that if Ernest tried that, his rug would quickly turn to a flying carpet. That audience has NO sense of humor...

There are some who theorize God induced a hibernation state on the animals while on board. Might explain why the tigers didn’t eat the lambs!

"And for G2G Ernest Angley"
Thaaank yeeewww! 🙌

Quite the memorable figure, that Ernest...
All kidding aside, you do pose an interesting question. As Catholics, we believe that by His Passion, Death, and Resurrection, Jesus made it possible for all men to be saved, and come to the knowledge of the Truth. While that is available to us, we believe we have to live our lives accordingly, following what we believe to be the Church He founded while on earth.

What of those who believe that they are saved by faith alone, sola scriptura, and by declaration of that faith. Ealgeone, you stated: On some of the interviews I've seen him on he's been hesitant to declare faith in Christ, and only Christ, as the way to salvation. That statement made sense, according to the beliefs you've stated in forum. The description you gave sounded almost as if he were New Age, which is against what I, and what I think you, believe.

Again, Verga, you do pose an interesting question, and a valid one: as Christians, how do you feel about the other Televangelists, especially the ones who claim* from the Spirit the Gift of Healing, and or Prophecy? Do you believe they are saved?

I watch TCT, and find common ground with some of what Pat Robertson and his son, and Terri M. have to say. I will even join in prayer if I happen to catch that portion. But how do you all, as non-Catholic Christians, feel about them and their ministries? It would be interesting to hear your point of view.

Sincerely,
G2G
*by "claim", I mean as one claims for oneself a gift promised by God, as opposed to "making a claim" which may or may not be factual. I mean no sarcasm.
