"I feel like saying something that may sound controversial or even heretical. But there is someone who knows that despite our differences we are one. It is he who is persecuting us. It is he that is persecuting Christians today; he who is anointing us with the blood of martyrdom, knows that Christians are disciples of Christ. That we are one, that we are brothers! He doesn't care if they are Evangelicals, Orthodox, Lutherans, Catholics or Apostolic. He doesn't care! They are Christians."
He claims that he planted on in his front yard to aid in the sell of his former home. He claimed that it helped.
If you were to balk at it, as a few here at work did, he'd get upset.
The catholic church has done a lousy job educating their faithful against this sort of practice. I find it creepy. I get the whole thing regarding statues in the church and kinda see the point when referred to as, “pictures on a mantle” to aid in prayer. I'll visit a catholic church from time to time and see more statues of Mary/Saints than that of our messiah. Just seems catywhompiss to me.
Just read scripture a day or so ago that emphatically forbids the use of images/idols for worship.
Lumen Gentium 14, Gaudium Et Spes 22, Quanto conficiamur moerore of 10 August, 1863, Dominus Iesus, and CCC 846-847.
From Pius IX:
“It is known to us and to you that those who are in invincible ignorance of our most holy religion, but who observe carefully the natural law, and the precepts graven by God upon the hearts of all men, and who being disposed to obey God lead an honest and upright life, may, aided by the light of divine grace, attain to eternal life; for God who sees clearly, searches and knows the heart, the disposition, the thoughts and intentions of each, in His supreme mercy and goodness by no means permits that anyone suffer eternal punishment, who has not of his own free will fallen into sin.”
Additionally, there was salvation for those who died before Christ. Doesn’t it make sense that Moses, Isaiah, and other Old Testament figures were saved, even though they weren’t baptized, nor did they have the ability to know Jesus Christ?
I understand the argument, I just think it’s incomplete.
The descent of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost granted the apostles, and through them the Church, the power and the authority (as promised) to discern and to teach the truth in all things. (That’s scriptural).
This responsibility and authority was not given to Mohammed, or Joseph Smith, or JK Rowling.
You are again begging the question, starting from the premise that it’s books (or a Book) that contains all truth, when this is plainly contradicted in John’s gospel AND in Acts.
I understand your point, but I do not deduce a conclusion based on the unbelief of folks. I make this conclusion based off of scripture.
I’m not attempting to rail on catholics, it’s just not my thing. I try to reason these things from what I’ve read from the good book.
“The ordinary universal magisterium includes all things the Church has taught the Faithful regarding matters of faith and morals.”
So, by this standard you accept the magisterium’s teachings regarding matter of faith and morals at Vatican II?
Please cite the Biblical chapter and verse that supports this claim.
I do.
I understand completely, been there, done that.
I found Acts 8:26-40 helpful on my own journey.
Blessings on you and yours.
I don't think the Church teaches that, but, since the Church does not and never has believed or taught a "chapter and verse" standard, it makes no difference whether or not it is written down.
The Bible is not, nor was it ever intended, to be a complete day to day, hour by hour account of all that Jesus and the disciples did. This is the reason John wrote what he did.
However, he does give you the reason why he wrote his gospel.
....but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name (John 20:31).
That's what the Bible is for....to point to Jesus.....not Mary....not the other saints......it's all about Christ and how do we come to know Him.
David was a prophet.. he was specifically addressing HIS son..that is not a general prophesy
So you are god now??
Thank you...back’atch brother.
Well your "pope " believed it was predestined..
Acts 2 22Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. 23This man was handed over to you by Gods deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men,d put him to death by nailing him to the cross. 24But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.
Guess you missed that reading at mass huh?
The magisterium has never infallibly interpreted the bible... what you hear is simply the personal opinion of men
One with so much knowledge of the Catholic faith, but still abandons Jesus. I’ll pray for your return to the faith which IS A RETURN TO JESUS.
“The Catholic Church used to look different from Protestant sects. Catholics were a peculiar people. The Church was counter cultural and it was obvious. That is no longer true”.
The Catholic Church has always had heretics. always had disbelievers. Always had those that are not capable of following Jesus. Nothing changes in doctrine. No homo “marriage”, no abortion, no women priests. Modernists want it to change but the doctrine changes for no one for one simple reason, Jesus does not change. His teachings are eternal.
The forces of evil have been trying for 2,000 years to destroy the Catholic Church. Destroy the Catholic Church, the very faith started by Christ himself, and the other various Christian sects fall by the wayside. But scripture tells us who wins out in the end and it’s not Satan. Being a Catholic is not for sissies and that’s why people off in search of something that fits what they want, not what Christ wants.
celebrating our messiah as an Anglican.
Does that mean you have a gay priest?
sorry, that was an attempt at humor - and not very successful. Please let it pass.
