From Southern Baptist to Goddess Worship, Sue Monk Kidd

Excerpted:

What Catholic mysticism does is reject the Bible as the sole and sufficient and perfect revelation of God and tries to delve beyond the Bible, even beyond thought of any kind, and find God through mystical “intuition.” In other words, it is a rejection of the God of the Bible. It says that God cannot be known by doctrine and cannot be described in words. He can only be experienced through mysticism. This is a blatant denial of the Bible’s claim to be the very Word of God.

This opens the practitioner to demonic delusion. He is left with no perfect objective revelation of God, no divinely-revealed authority by which he can test his mystical experiences and intuitions. He is left with an idol of his own vain imagination (Jeremiah 17:9) and a doctrine of devils.

She (Sue Monk Kidd) determined that she was willing to lose her marriage, if necessary.

"I would not, could not forfeit my journey for my marriage or for the sake of religious acceptance or success as a ‘Christian writer.’ I would keep moving in my own way to the strains of feminine music that sifted up inside me, not just moving but embracing the dance. ... I felt the crumbling of the old patriarchal foundation our marriage had rested upon in such hidden and subtle ways. Though both of us would always need to compromise, there was no more sacrificing myself, no more revolving around him, no more looking to him for validation, trying to be what I thought he needed me to be. My life, my time, my decisions became newly my own" (pp. 98, 125).

Ah, I'm afraid that the Catholics have hijacked the targeted audience of evangelicals away from the topic asserted in the beginning, which is not about Mary but about the errors of contemplative prayer that has led at least one nominal Protestant into gross apostasy.

So, why is this irrelevant comment about Mariolatry sent to me, along with that of your Post 124? My only reference to Mary was in Posts 6 and 7, wherein I was trying to draw the focus back onto the topic at hand, which was being distracted by party-crashers.

You'll note that "General Discussion" was deselected.

I am seeing my nephews and nieces next weekend. I have been remiss with the few of them that believe in gay marriage. I just say nothing for fear of alienating them.

I can identify with that. In 1997, we had a big family reunion in Stockton, CA. I met cousins I did not know I had. That is because they were from LA. I was from Grand Forks, ND, and was a hockey player and fan (go Blackhawks) I was in California, because my last 4 years of my 20 year USAF career, were spent at Travis AFB. When I retired, I went to work at San Quentin. They were big time pro gay. I was not. One of them said to me that it would hard to be friends if I did not become pro gay myself. I haven't spoken to any of them since 1997 (mostly their choice) I told my mom (her relatives) that I thought being born and raised in LA, must have warped their minds. Even she agreed with me.

first of all thanks for the 20 years. That was a great career I bet.I’m having trouble living with myself just ignoring their comments.it’s almost word for word what media has taught them. Its just two people who are in love why stand in their way blah blah blah.
might be time to tell them about the stories I heard from my fellow coworkers in graphics who were gay. too perverted to even mention

Bernadine: …all gifts, all virtues, and all graces are dispensed by the hands of Mary to whomsoever, when, and as she pleases. O Lady, since thou art the dispenser of all graces, and since the grace of salvation can ONLY come through thy hands, OUR SALVATION DEPENDS ON THEE.

Bonaventure: …the gates of heaven will open to all who confide in the protection of Mary. Blessed are they who know thee, O Mother of God, for the knowledge of THEE is the high road to everlasting life, and the publication of thy virtues is the way of ETERNAL SALVATION . Give ear, O ye nations; and all you who desire heaven , serve, honor Mary, and certainly you will find ETERNAL LIFE.

Ephem: …devotion to the divine Mother…is the unlocking of the heavenly Jerusalem.

Blosius: To the, O Lady, are committed the KEYS and the treasures of the kingdom of Heaven.

Ambrose: …constantly pray ‘Open to us, O Mary, the gates of paradise, since thou hast its KEYS.

Fulgetius: …by Mary God descended from Heaven into the world, that by HER man might ascend from earth to Heaven.

Athanasius: …And, thou, O Lady, wast filled with grace, that thou mightiest be the way of our SALVATION and the means of ascent to the heavenly Kingdom.

Richard of Laurence: Mary, in fine, is the mistress of heaven; for there she commands as she wills, and ADMITS whom she wills.

Guerric: …he who serves Mary and for whom she intercedes, is as CERTAIN of heaven as if he were already there…and those who DO NOT serve Mary will NOT BE SAVED.

Anselm: It suffices, O Lady, that thou willest it, and our SALVATION is certain.

Antoninus: …souls protected by Mary, and on which she casts her eyes, are NECESSARILY JUSTIFIED AND SAVED.

We honor her just like you might honor your own mother.

My Prayer to Our Mother Mary

Hail and praise be unto thee, Mary, whom God Almighty has exalted above all of his other servants!!
God has entrusted us unto your care and graciously grants any request that you make of Him on our behalf, if it is in accordance with His Divine Will.
Our hearts burn with zeal as we honor you, Our Mother.
We love you as a child loves a mother and you love us as mother loves her children.
Please guide us, your little ones, to our Eternal and Almighty Father God through our prayers and through your love for us.
Many in this world may slander and degrade you while still claiming to exalt God, please forgive them and pray for them for they may dishearten your devoted children.
May we be made worthy of the promises of Christ through your prayers.
You love us so freely and we are so unworthy of it.
You love us because God and Christ loved us first.
Mary, Mother, I love you.

Amen.

She is holy, but not divine.

Let's try some easy math:

There are approximately 1.2 billion Catholics world wide;

If merely 1% of them  'ask' Mary for help just once each day;

that means that 12 million separate prayers are headed Mary's direction every day.

Given that there are 86,400 seconds per day... (24 hours times 60 minutes times 60 seconds)

...that means that Mary has to handle approximately 139 'requests' per second!

Purty good fer someone NOT 'divine'!

If you can’t bear to hear our Lord’s virgin mother referred to as blessed, you could just call her the mother of God.

Blessed IS found in the Bible; while the phrase mother of God is not.

But your mother IS a participant in your redemption. How could she not be?

I think you've got the cart before the horse here. One would not need redemption if Original Sin, the unavoidable proclivity to commit sins, was not transmitted with and inseparable from, the replication of her DNA, would it?

One would certainly not need redemption if one didn’t exist. Which is where mom comes in.

I can relate. My own homosexual brother, hasn't spoken to me since 1987. (His choice) I think maybe he does not like heterosexuals much, though I am not sure. Best to you in dealing with them.
