I have been taught Dispensationalism from my mothers womb. I was born in a dispensational environment. It was assumed at my church to be a part of the Gospel. There was never another option presented. It made sense. It helped me put together the Scriptures in a way that cleared up so much confusion. And, to be honest, the emphasis on the coming tribulation, current events that prove the Bibles prophecy, the fear that the Antichrist may be alive today (who is he?) was all quite exciting. But what might be the biggest attraction for me is the charts! Oh how I love charts. I think in charts. And dispensationalism is a theology of charts!
The first time I came across someone who was not a Dispensationalist was in 1999. I am not kidding. It was the first time! I dont think I even knew if there was another view. It was when I was a student at Dallas Theological Seminary (the bastion of Dispensationalism) and I was swimming with some guys who were at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Once they discovered I was a dispensationalist, they giggled and snickered. They made fun of the rapture, the sacrificial system during the millennium, and the mark of the beast (which, at that time, was some type of barcode). It was as if they patted me on the head and said Its okay . . . nice little dispensationalist. I was so angry. I was humiliated. I was a second-rate theologian. They were Covenantalists (whatever that was). But they were the cool guys who believed in the historic Christian faith and I was the cultural Christian, believing in novel ideas.

Luke 24:39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.I just wanted to point out that Christ's resurrected body had flesh and bones and maybe blood.
"Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name. And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him. Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not." (Malachi 3:16-18)
HaHaHa...I agree...I don't know if he's posting scripture or something from Betty Crocker's cookbook...
There is no such thing! We have already established that.
And Rood's prediction of "the day of the Lord" starting in the fall of 2000 was right on target right editor? LOL
Plead my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me. Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help. Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation. Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt. Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the Lord chase them. Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the Lord persecute them. For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul. Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall. And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord: it shall rejoice in his salvation. All my bones shall say, Lord, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him? False witnesses did rise up; they laid to my charge things that I knew not. They rewarded me evil for good to the spoiling of my soul. But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom. I behaved myself as though he had been my friend or brother: I bowed down heavily, as one that mourneth for his mother. But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not: With hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth. Lord, how long wilt thou look on? rescue my soul from their destructions, my darling from the lions. I will give thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise thee among much people. Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause. For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land. Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me, and said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it. This thou hast seen, O Lord: keep not silence: O Lord, be not far from me. Stir up thyself, and awake to my judgment, even unto my cause, my God and my Lord. Judge me, O Lord my God, according to thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me. Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up. Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at mine hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that magnify themselves against me. Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the Lord be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant. And my tongue shall speak of thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long.
Psalms, Catholic chapter thirty five, in its entirety,
as authorized, but not authored, by King James
Hasn’t the first resurrection always been seen as the rapture? Christ the first fruits, and then “dead in Christ will rise first, then we remaining alive...”
Despite being a Catholic or a Mormon, or of some other religion, you too can hear the Gospel and accept it into your heart and be born again from above as Jesus commanded in John 3 when speaking with Nicodemus. Do this simple thing and be saved from the wrath to come and live in His eternity starting as soon as you believe and confess Him with your mouth.
There is no such thing! We have already established that.
Hey, Buggman, we need you to weigh in on this Michael Rood discussion since it touches on Messianic Christianity. Any thoughts?
He claims to be a rabbi, but he hasnt been ordained as such by any Messianic or traditional Jewish organization. He is not recognized by any major Messianic Jewish organization. His only known ordination as a minister comes from The Way International, which has its own problems. He keeps making false predictions on the timing of the Second Coming based on his corrected Jewish calendar. He makes extravagant and false claims about the traditional rabbis agreeing with him on various issues.
He relies on a supposed "Hebrew original" of Matthew that is, as far as anyone can tell, just a translation from the Greek with a few novel changes. He also casually tosses out passages of Scripture that disagree with him: Most famously, realizing that having three Passovers in John's Gospel account messes up his rather novel interpretation of the 70 Weeks, Rood has declared--without any scholarly support--that John 6:4 was falsely inserted into the text. That is easily refuted by anyone with even a basic knowledge of the Biblical manuscript data and the early Church fathers, or even with just access to Google.
Heres a good summary of some of the other problems Rood has.
Or just Google michael rood false teacher
Unfortunately, between the extravagant claims, the garish pseudo-priestly costumes, the Gandalfian beard, and an incredible talent for self-promotion, hes a lot of peoples first taste of the Hebrew Roots / Messianic movement. Most seem to start catching onto the false claims and drift away after a few years, but theres always someone new who has just heard of him and gets caught up in his cult.
Honestly, First Fruits of Zion is a much better resource for someone trying to understand the Jewish roots of the Christian faith and where the Messianic movement is today.
Shalom
Thanks, Buggman. I was hoping you had some insight and background on Rood. I was unaware of him. Your messianic stance makes you a fair arbiter of things messianic, so thanks for the links.
Not traditional dispensationalists nor the progressive dispensationalists. Only the ultra-dispensationalists believe in two gospels and a later gospel of Grace. The Gospel of Grace began with Christ's resurrection and His commands to preach the Gospel (Luke 24).
Thank you, Rabbi.
So, where exactly do you put the beginning of the Gospel of Grace and the beginning of the Church? Acts 9? Acts 10? Acts 15? or Acts 28? Or after any historical events of Acts? I am curious.
