You are asking me to prove a negative which is impossible.
That may very well be true. And if it is true --- if that is our ethic --- then we should be glad to have the Pope's support, or anyone's support for that matter.
There is a distinction to be made between the moral requirement: responsible stewardship of this planet, for which God has made us responsible; and the competing scientific, political, and practical decisions which are matters of "prudential judgment". These are not the sphere of the clergy but of the laity, in their various personal, professional and civic capacities.
Really, Gamecock, I am surprised and disappointed at this. You, of all people, are wise and knowledgeable enough to know this is not true.
This is one of many things. I am sure you have read his calendar and know the multitude of topics he is addressing on a daily basis.
We don’t know the exact nature of the encyclical, just that it deals with man’s relationship to the Earth.
Were you this critical when he spoke up for persecuted Christians? Were you this critical when he personally received the family of an ISIS-murdered Christian? Were you this critical when he began actively ministering to the poor in his diocese of Rome? You know the sleeping bags and showers?
You may dislike any number of things about his style, which are free game. However, you may want to consider his demonstration of the Cardinal Virtues.

Nothing in God’s word tells us to care for the Earth.
We are specifically instructed to subdue the Earth.
Feeding the poor is another story, and this is where the catholic church has failed miserably, by spending Yeshua’s money on massive buildings with satanic phalli puncuuating their roofs, and man worshiping art treasures covering the walls.
Gee, it is the only planet we currently inhabit. How can we feed the poor if some countries, like China and India, are destroying the top soil and ground water?
How can we show love not just one another today, but also to generations to come?
Encyclicals on any of those things?
Well, I read: “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth; and SUBDUE it.” (emphasis is mine)
But, if you want me to buy your feel-good pablum, you’re going to have to do a really tight job of defining EXACTLY what it means “not to endanger” while at the same time “allowing to subdue”.
No drilling for oil? No burning fossil fuel of any kind? No dumping at sea? No eating meat? No GMO? No air travel? All of those things can be, AND HAVE BEEN, proscribed for us unwashed masses by our betters in the environmental grievance industry and at the UN... to which chorus the good pope is also lustily lending his own voice.
Who draws the line, and where? You? The Pope? Obama? Kofi Anan? Who?

Jesus said of the Pharisees, “they...tie up heavy burdens and lay them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are unwilling to move them with so much as a finger.” That defines not only the Gaia worshipping secular humanists with which the pope has chosen to ally himself (as have you, apparently). I’m afraid it also applies to the Pope himself.

Apparently, you believe anything that you have thought might be true. How did you find out how salvation works... your intuition? I tend to look to the Book to find what is true...and free will is not there.
That's not true. Every one of them teaches that man's true happiness and fulfillment are in the life to come, not on this earth; and that salvation is through Jesus Christ and the spread of His Gospel to every creature.
That is not secular humanism.
I did. It was a foolish assertion which was quickly demolished by facts.
The Catholic Church walks the walk on caring for the poor, sick, imprisoned, the elderly, children, and the spiritual good of all. It serves more people than any other organization in history.
