Tom Brady’s Father Among Group Seeking Archbishop’s Removal

A group of San Francisco Catholics threw a Hail Mary Thursday, asking Pope Francis to fire their archbishop. Among those calling for a replacement of Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone is the father of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

Tom Brady Sr. joined about 100 other Bay Area Catholics in signing a full-page advertisement in the San Francisco Chronicle Thursday, in which they ask Pope Francis to remove Cordileone as archbishop because of what they say is “an atmosphere of division and intolerance” in the archdiocese.

“Holy Father,” the ad reads, “please provide us with a leader true to our values and your namesake.”

Cordileone has been under assault from some Catholics since news broke in February that teachers in archdiocesan-run schools would be required to sign a contract that states they “accept the Church’s teaching that all extra-marital sexual relationships are gravely evil and that these include adultery, masturbation, fornication, the viewing of pornography and homosexual relations.”

Blowback was swift, with lawmakers, teachers, and now major donors voicing opposition.

But Cordileone’s supporters have stood by his decisions, noting that the clause is common in other dioceses and fully in line with Catholic teaching.

Maybe a leaders of religious groups shouldn’t be sanctioned for upholding the doctrines of that group? That was the old America. In the new, fundamentally transformed, America, religions have to conform to what’s trending on Twitter.

We NEVER looked at the scriptures

just who is "we"??...I went to Catholic school and I even OWN a bible which I have read cover to cover more than once.

Our religion classes were always based on biblical subjects, mostly through the catechism....where did you think that came from???

Your comment made me wonder how much of the bible is covered in the Mass (over time) and I googled it and found this interesting set of statistics.

Basically, if you go to Mass every Sunday and on holy days, over time you will hear 3.7% of the Old Testament (or Hebrew Scriptures) and 41% of the New Testament (Christian Scriptures).

Those numbers rise to 13.5% and 71.5% if you go to Mass every day.

Note that even if you go to Mass faithfully every Sunday, you’ll only hear 11 of the 1289 verses in Numbers (or less than 1%), so you’re definitely going to read that one at home!!

Maybe you don't realize that if you went to DAILY MASS, you would hear the ENTIRE New Testament and a lot of the OLD Testament. TRY IT!!

And Catholic is spelled with a Capital "C" if you are Catholic.

Indeed, I agree. Here is a quote from a recovering sex addict on how the Church can help out:

• First, if you are already Catholic, go to confession. Confess *all* of your sins as specifically as possible, including numbers of times, even if it's 100,000 times of lust, impurity, and adultery each. Don't shortchange it, be brutally *honest.* DO THE PENANCE THE PRIEST GIVES YOU. You will feel a TREMENDOUS weight lifted off of you.
  
  
• Second, go to daily mass if you can - but never accept the Eucharist if you have engaged in a mortal sin (like impurity) until you have been to confession. Pray before the blessed sacrament, I recommend an hour per day. If you can't do that, then half an hour once a week is better than nothing. • Third, pray almost constantly. Say the rosary and the chaplet of divine mercy once per day at least. Pray for all of the women you hurt, especially those you didn't know who were on the other side of a camera. sorry for the C thing. I wont lie. I go to mass every Sunday but don’t get excited. I feel like a go through the motions. The readings, the homily, shake some hands, communion and go home.
I need to try harder.
