Tom Brady’s Father Among Group Seeking Archbishop’s Removal
The Boston Globe ^ | 4/16/15 | Michael O’Loughlin

A group of San Francisco Catholics threw a Hail Mary Thursday, asking Pope Francis to fire their archbishop. Among those calling for a replacement of Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone is the father of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

Tom Brady Sr. joined about 100 other Bay Area Catholics in signing a full-page advertisement in the San Francisco Chronicle Thursday, in which they ask Pope Francis to remove Cordileone as archbishop because of what they say is “an atmosphere of division and intolerance” in the archdiocese.

“Holy Father,” the ad reads, “please provide us with a leader true to our values and your namesake.”

Cordileone has been under assault from some Catholics since news broke in February that teachers in archdiocesan-run schools would be required to sign a contract that states they “accept the Church’s teaching that all extra-marital sexual relationships are gravely evil and that these include adultery, masturbation, fornication, the viewing of pornography and homosexual relations.”

Blowback was swift, with lawmakers, teachers, and now major donors voicing opposition.

But Cordileone’s supporters have stood by his decisions, noting that the clause is common in other dioceses and fully in line with Catholic teaching.

Dear Head of the Catholic Church, our bishop is behaving too much like a Catholic. Please fire him.

I don’t get it. You don’t have to belong. Just quit the team. The religion is not a buffet to take what you like and leave the rest

Your last line is right on. The Church is not a buffet; it's the mystical body of Christ and Christ is not a menu; he is a whole, complete person and at the same time he is Truth itself.

But for that same reason the Church doesn't see itself as another (e.g. Protestant) sect where you sign up for all the beliefs but if you're off on one or two you go and join or found another sect that's a better match.

Having said that, the real backers of this movement were never Catholics to begin with as this excellent research shows:

When liberals smell blood in the water we know what happens. The Catholic Church is on wobbly legs and the left is pushing the envelope as far as they can to break it. I remember when the church started saying mass in English rather than in Latin a bunch of the old timers were saying that was the beginning of the end of the Catholic Church. They said there would be big changes and they were glad they wouldn’t be around to see it. Well, that was over forty years ago and all of them are long gone, but they have been proven to be right.

Do these people actually think the Pope is going to read their advertisement?

Good post. The priest’s name is too close to Corleone. He wont submit lol. Might bump some off!
I don’t get what they don’t see. Gay sex leads to some VERY horrifying diseases. And even with HIV treatment, they are now getting dementia in their forties.
Premarital sex gives you an unwarranted sense of love, or lust confused with love. In the young, this Powerful act can lead to confusion and despair when the person you sleep with walks away.
Masturbation is only a venial sin but becomes addictive when porn is involved and then it becomes kind of sad.
Thee are reasons Jesus said what he said. It wasn’t just for kicks.

Catholic Schooling involved more then reading the Bible. They taught you to read, so you could read it, they taught you to think so you could think about it. If you have not read the entire Bible, I would highly recommend that you do so. It really is the Greatest story ever told!

A wise, old priest friend of mine was demoted from his large parish because the lib nuns wanted to use some religious textbooks that were inappropriate and the lib nun superintendent of the diocesan schools convinced the bishop that he needed to go and so he got canned.

He was given another parish in a small town without a school. He did flourish though and his flock were some of the best trained Catholics I ever knew as a group.

He took his situation to the Vatican and after a bit he was told that the diocese had no right to deprive him of his parish. The diocese was supposed to give him his parish back or one of similar size and make-up (with a school) but the diocese never contacted him about it.

He called the bishop up and confronted him and found out that they had no intention of moving him from his little parish. In the end he decided he liked his little flock so he stayed there and retired from there.

What people seem to forget, maybe conveniently, is that the priest or bishop or archbishop is totally responsible before God for his actions within his domain. Of course, some people don't respect that, they think that what a position gives you is POWER, but what it really does is give you tremendous RESPONSIBILITY.

The good archbishop is doing the job he was called to do to watch over the spiritual development of those he is responsible for.

Tom Brady Sr. and the other 99 will be held to account for their actions.

Christ is not a menu

Great line. I read the article but knew before I red it that Soros would be involved.
WHY does he care about what Catholics do?! Isn’t being a traitor to his own people enough for him? Or does he hate Christ that much?

It used to fascinate me that people who could easily just ignore the Church feel compelled to attack it. Circumstantial evidence that it’s not just another human institution.

I think you'll find that you know more of it then you thought you did. Because it's in the Mass, it's in the CCC, it's in the materials they gave you at school. But you sound like me. I did not think I knew much and I endeavored to read the Bible straight through, even the agonizingly boring parts, like Numbers.

I found that I had heard most of it at one time or another. It was still amazing! I have read parts of the Bible many times, but just reading from start to finish was amazing and I think I am going to start again. Great idea!

I have no idea how old you are. Maybe I am a nerd. But there are books that I read every ten years or so, just to see if my perspective has changed. :)

I’ve had ups and down in my faith, but what always made me come back was the burning HATRED towards it. That always let me know it was real.
What these punks on the liberal sites today do is use false arguments to compare christinas to muslims
I said that if a muslim woman gets raped she need four male witnesses and then gets stoned for the rape for committing fornication.
They come back with “well, if a Christian man rapes a woman he must marry her”
I don’t know if that’s in the bible but I do know it is not practiced anywhere.
They go on and on with these ridiculous comebacks, and their hero leads the way, babbling about the crusades and inquisition. I hate that guy.

Well Numbers is interesting in some ways. It talks quite a bit about Cubits. LOL, not that it matters so much. It's just a darn interesting book.

If they taught it in school nothing else would get done.

The last time I read it all the way through I was laid off from work. In some ways I resent work, because I think fondly of those days. I would go to Mass every morning and then sit and read and pray. I had a JPII says the Rosary CD. Of course it was in Latin so, I can do the Rosary in Latin now.

Now I must work, but I am going to attempt to read it again. I like my job and how things have turned out so far. It's amazing actually! Life's journey! I am 51 by the way.

Just for the record (and for others reading this thread), if masturbation gets to this point, it could be a mortal sin. It's not always venial, regardless. One can check out the criteria for a mortal sin online or better yet, in the confessional! :)

And did you know that pornography is the top sin in the confessional? We had two different priests tell us that through their homilies given at Mass.

Lets be open and honest about it. Pornography is the new crack cocaine. The sights are free now although you may get malware, You can look at just about any insane thing you want.
My nephew told me thee is a sight that shows men masturbating on unsuspecting women in public. So we have reached the bottom as a country.
Watching porn and masturbating for that hit of dopamine and endorphins is no different than shooting up. Except it is completely free and you don’t have to leave your house.
What a mess.

This is hilarious, because these un-Catholic “Catholic leaders” as they call themselves, were totally upstaged by a grassroots efforts to *support* the Archbishop.

That resulted in 36,000 signatures of support.

360 *times* the number of these leftist-liberal un-Catholics.
