Henry VIII made sure that the two-year reign of the Catholic Richard III would be forever hated. Henry's hostility to Richard had nothing to do with RIchard being Catholic. All English kings before Henry were Catholic. Henry was hostile to Richard because Richard was a York and the Tudors were Lancastrian.

Thank you for the helpful distinction between the house of York and the Tudors. The animosity of Henry VIII for Richard III makes more sense now.
