From Fundamentalist Baptist to Catholic – Steve Wilson’s Story
http://www.catholic-convert.com/ ^ | February 26, 2015 | Steve Wilson

Posted on 03/01/2015 4:54:44 PM PST by NKP_Vet

Archbishop Fulton Sheen once wrote: “There are not over a hundred people in the United State who hate the Roman Catholic Church; there are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church.”

I was one of those who hated because of what I wrongly believed about the Catholic Church. The reason I had these beliefs was due to being told what to believe about the Catholic Church from those who were told what to believe about the Catholic Church. No one was willing to find out what the bottom line was concerning the Catholic Church. Everything said about the Church was taken as truth while it seemed no one was delving into what the truth really was.

What about these Catholics? They worshipped Mary. They had a religion but not a relationship with Jesus Christ. They said they believed in God but really their belief couldn’t be the same, could it? The Bible says in James 2:19 KJV “Thou believest that there is one God; Thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble”.

So do Catholics have a belief such as the devils? When most Catholics are asked if they have been “born again” or “have accepted Christ as their Savior”, their main response is “I believe in God” or “I am a good person”, or “I’m Catholic”. Also, they have all these rituals, Saints, Statues and what about the Pope is he really standing in for God? Another big item, are they cannibals when they eat the bread and drink the wine during communion? Why do they leave Jesus on the cross, don’t they realize Jesus has risen from the dead?

>> “Ok...so why did God wait 1500 years for you to show up?” <<

.
Simple-minded strawman.

He didn’t wait.

The catholic church are the many, his elect are and always have been “the few.”

So if Hitler walked in and ask to be baptised as an adult right along side you and born again.....would he then go to heaven like you? Or would you have an issue with that?

It's not up to me OR you OR the Roman Catholic church to see into a person's heart - only God can do that. It is why being baptized, going to a "church", being "good", etc. is not how one is saved/born again. We are saved by grace through faith and that NOT of ourselves, not of our works, lest anyone should boast.

BTW... Hitler's already dead, or didn't you hear?

It’s not a simple minded question....it’s a
very simple question......that you have yet to answer....

If you are God’s chosen to keep his word......why did he wait 1500 years to inspire Luther?

Did all those who thought they were previously “christian” all go to hell before martin luther showed up?

Did God condemn millions to hell because he wanted to wait for you to enlighten the rest of us 1500 years after christ died?

I mean seriously....have you ever let logic creep into your beliefs....of not?

So your argument is...that it is possible for Hitler (or someone like him) to go to heaven...so long as he jumps through your hoops and become born again before he kicks the bucket.

Is that right?

And still martin Luther didnt show up for 1500 years.

How is it possible that ANYONE went to heaven before Martin Luther had preached...if his is the true word of God.

How is it possible for a man to go to heaven before the Birth of martin Luther...

Time travel?

There are now over 400 replies to this simple thread about someone that converted to Catholicism. Why so many replies? Why can’t people of all faiths be happy for him instead of immediately saying he didn’t know what he was doing and in the process start badmouthing Catholicism. I think we both know the answer.

Riiight...just like you do on threads about former Roman Catholics converting to Protestantism or Evangelicalism??? Yeah, we DO know the answer. We see it pretty regularly here at the town square of the Free Republic OPEN Religion Forum.

I thought you said you were leaving this thread for your own good? ;o)

I don't have any "hoops" someone must jump through to be saved, I can't save anyone. If you have a problem with Almighty God knowing the heart of someone who is genuinely converted to Jesus Christ and saving him, take it up with God. The Apostle Paul said he was the "chiefest of sinners" because he persecuted and oversaw the murder of Christians. If God can save him and use him for His glory, is anyone too far gone for the gospel to break through?

While we were YET sinners, Christ died for us. While we were at enmity/enemies of God, He reconciled us through faith in Jesus Christ.

For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation — if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant. (Colossians 1:19-23)

I always reply to pings......if you dont want me here...stop pinging me.

As for the rest....yeah yeah...sure sure....should I start listing the protestant crimes against humanity in Europe in the middle ages?

You do know that hundred of thousands died in the religious wars the protestants STARTED...right?

Hows does the protestant repression of catholics in Ireland strike you....care to discuss that too?

I bet not.

When Christ said “let he who is without sin cast the first stone”........you all started chucking rocks....

Not me. Never heard of the guy.

Nor do I put any stock in *experts*.

I'm not a respecter of persons.

Here is a link to YOUR post #71 in the thread 10 things every Catholic should know about Sola Scriptura.

James Whites definition of Sola Scriptura complete with link to AO ministries.

Care to make the claim again that you never heard of the guy. And apparently you trust this "expert" enough to use his definition.

Whew!

Lotsa words that FINALLY come to the conclusion that...

"Father" and "Mother" do not violate biblical nomenclature, and they have the sanction of Protestant tradition.

How can ANYONE; with more than two brain cells to rub together; challenge THAT?

Now you have some real facts.

My Prayer to Our Mother Mary

Hail and praise be unto thee, Mary, whom God Almighty has exalted above all of his other servants!!
God has entrusted us unto your care and graciously grants any request that you make of Him on our behalf, if it is in accordance with His Divine Will.
Our hearts burn with zeal as we honor you, Our Mother.
We love you as a child loves a mother and you love us as mother loves her children.
Please guide us, your little ones, to our Eternal and Almighty Father God through our prayers and through your love for us.
Many in this world may slander and degrade you while still claiming to exalt God, please forgive them and pray for them for they may dishearten your devoted children.
May we be made worthy of the promises of Christ through your prayers.
You love us so freely and we are so unworthy of it.
You love us because God and Christ loved us first.
Mary, Mother, I love you.

Amen.

Your misinterpretation that even most other Protestants don’t believe, no.

Sorry; but you have to actually SHOW misinterpretation; not just CLAIM it.

I'll stick with the Catholic church, they have about 1,950 more years of experience that you do....

Then I can say you'll probably 'stick' with Obama; for he has LOTs more 'experience' at being President than you do.

Likewise...

...I can say you'll probably 'stick' with Pope Francis; also; for he has LOTs more 'experience' at being Supreme Leader of the RCC than you do.

AHHHhhh...

Experience!

How can you NOT go along with a religious organization that has produced such 'experienced' guys as these??

Pope Stephen VI (896–897), who had his predecessor Pope Formosus exhumed, tried, de-fingered, briefly reburied, and thrown in the Tiber.[1]

Pope John XII (955–964), who gave land to a mistress, murdered several people, and was killed by a man who caught him in bed with his wife.

Pope Benedict IX (1032–1044, 1045, 1047–1048), who "sold" the Papacy

Pope Boniface VIII (1294–1303), who is lampooned in Dante's Divine Comedy

Pope Urban VI (1378–1389), who complained that he did not hear enough screaming when Cardinals who had conspired against him were tortured.[2]

Pope Alexander VI (1492–1503), a Borgia, who was guilty of nepotism and whose unattended corpse swelled until it could barely fit in a coffin.[3]

Pope Leo X (1513–1521), a spendthrift member of the Medici family who once spent 1/7 of his predecessors' reserves on a single ceremony[4]

Pope Clement VII (1523–1534), also a Medici, whose power-politicking with France, Spain, and Germany got Rome sacked.

I guess you're STUCK with them; too!

People post “Catholics worship Mary” all the time.

Don't you just HATE when that happens?

Bernadine: …all gifts, all virtues, and all graces are dispensed by the hands of Mary to whomsoever, when, and as she pleases. O Lady, since thou art the dispenser of all graces, and since the grace of salvation can ONLY come through thy hands, OUR SALVATION DEPENDS ON THEE.

Bonaventure: …the gates of heaven will open to all who confide in the protection of Mary. Blessed are they who know thee, O Mother of God, for the knowledge of THEE is the high road to everlasting life, and the publication of thy virtues is the way of ETERNAL SALVATION . Give ear, O ye nations; and all you who desire heaven , serve, honor Mary, and certainly you will find ETERNAL LIFE.

Ephem: …devotion to the divine Mother…is the unlocking of the heavenly Jerusalem.

Blosius: To the, O Lady, are committed the KEYS and the treasures of the kingdom of Heaven.

Ambrose: …constantly pray ‘Open to us, O Mary, the gates of paradise, since thou hast its KEYS.

Fulgetius: …by Mary God descended from Heaven into the world, that by HER man might ascend from earth to Heaven.

Athanasius: …And, thou, O Lady, wast filled with grace, that thou mightiest be the way of our SALVATION and the means of ascent to the heavenly Kingdom.

Richard of Laurence: Mary, in fine, is the mistress of heaven; for there she commands as she wills, and ADMITS whom she wills.

Guerric: …he who serves Mary and for whom she intercedes, is as CERTAIN of heaven as if he were already there…and those who DO NOT serve Mary will NOT BE SAVED.

Anselm: It suffices, O Lady, that thou willest it, and our SALVATION is certain.

Antoninus: …souls protected by Mary, and on which she casts her eyes, are NECESSARILY JUSTIFIED AND SAVED.

I posted that to illustrate what it is like when people post hallucinations rather than the truth.

Let's try some easy math:

There are approximately 1.2 billion Catholics world wide;

If merely 1% of them  'ask' Mary for help just once each day;

that means that 12 million separate prayers are headed Mary's direction every day.

Given that there are 86,400 seconds per day... (24 hours times 60 minutes times 60 seconds)

...that means that Mary has to handle approximately 139 'requests' per second!

Purty good fer someone NOT 'divine'!

I could also write a story about my Best friend...Shane. It would be called "From Catholic to Fundamentalist Baptist - The Shane **** Story"

There are more that leave the Catholic Church than who go to it. Neither a modern day Baptist or Catholic church resemble what the church the Apostles created. That is a matter of historical record. However, there are a few church (non-denominational and some Baptist...some others) that they (the Apostles) would find familiar...not identical....but there is ZERO they would recognize in the Catholic Church. It looks NOTHING like the church set up by Paul...Peter...and the Apostles.
