From Fundamentalist Baptist to Catholic – Steve Wilson’s Story
http://www.catholic-convert.com/ ^ | February 26, 2015 | Steve Wilson

Archbishop Fulton Sheen once wrote: “There are not over a hundred people in the United State who hate the Roman Catholic Church; there are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church.”

I was one of those who hated because of what I wrongly believed about the Catholic Church. The reason I had these beliefs was due to being told what to believe about the Catholic Church from those who were told what to believe about the Catholic Church. No one was willing to find out what the bottom line was concerning the Catholic Church. Everything said about the Church was taken as truth while it seemed no one was delving into what the truth really was.

What about these Catholics? They worshipped Mary. They had a religion but not a relationship with Jesus Christ. They said they believed in God but really their belief couldn’t be the same, could it? The Bible says in James 2:19 KJV “Thou believest that there is one God; Thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble”.

So do Catholics have a belief such as the devils? When most Catholics are asked if they have been “born again” or “have accepted Christ as their Savior”, their main response is “I believe in God” or “I am a good person”, or “I’m Catholic”. Also, they have all these rituals, Saints, Statues and what about the Pope is he really standing in for God? Another big item, are they cannibals when they eat the bread and drink the wine during communion? Why do they leave Jesus on the cross, don’t they realize Jesus has risen from the dead?

The existence of non-denominational Christians since the time of Christ

There is not an iota of historical evidence to back that up....Nothing!!

Denying that the Bible is a great source for learning history is heretical. But if you don't want to believe the Bible that's your shtick I guess. Stick with the Catholic version of "history" if you wish, but don't try to push it off on Christians.

You, terycarl, never showed in the Bible where it says that Jesus was a Catholic, and that he was the voter who voted in the first "pope," Peter. Who actually was crowned pope by re writing history several centuries after Jesus walked the earth in his human form.

When I asked you to prove it you added to my collection of crickets.

The whole Gospel message concerns people becoming Christians by listening to and following Jesus, and therefore becoming born again.

The Bible says nothing about the Catholic church, except to use the word "catholic" in a completely different way then those who you are instructed to be in subjection to, the "popes."

But of course you belief system denies that anyone not in the Catholic denomination (yes denomination) can not go to heaven.

Condemning millions to hell? Looks like it.

unbroken history regarding what?

Non-denominational Christians. Per your previous post: "The New Testament gathering of Christians was called the ekklesia. It had no "denominational" label. It has been consistent since the time of Christ."

Since you entered the discussion on the other side of the argument, do you have evidence of “the existence of non-denominational Christians since the time of Christ”?

Consistent with the claim, these would need to be non-denominational and sharing the same belief and practice of today’s non-denoms.

it has to be non-denominational!

Christ's Church is not a denomination, it's the Catholic Church.

I know you disagree.

But the topic here is whether there is evidence for the existence of what was claimed, excluding the Catholic Church:

Non-denominational Christians since the time of Christ – specifically those claimed to be ancestors (in belief and practice) to current non-denominational Christians – unbroken in history up to the present day.
That's the question. One can assert they existed, but it is just an assertion without evidence.

The Catholic Church has been trying to destroy the true ekklesia since the fourth century. Who did you think they have trying to silence all those years?

Yeshua was the one that asserted their existence.

His evidence was strong.

There are no denominations in Yeshua’s assembly, and they are obviously universal, but have no association to the man made monster that calls itself “The catholic church.” (Nor any other “church.”)

The early fights were with heresies such as: Gnosticism, Arianism,, Monophysitism, Nestorianism, Monarchianism, Docetism, Apollinarism, Monothelitism, Antinomianism, Adoptionism, Sabellianism, and more.

You’re not claiming one of these as your non-denominational Christian consistent since the time of Christ are you?

If not, who specifically are you referring to then? Fourth century, fifth, sixth...?

Again, that’s your assertion. I’m asking for who where when specifically.

It was at Antioch the disciples were first called Christians. Acts 11:26

That's a good point. Names mean things.

Since you entered the discussion on the other side of the argument, do you have evidence of “the existence of non-denominational Christians since the time of Christ”?

Do you have the complete records of ALL the churches in existence at the time??

LOL! The Catholic Church has some name for everyone who dares stay with scripture and what the apostles taught don’t they. Positively Nicolaitan of them.

I’d be happy if you had any record of the claimed non-denominational Christians since the time of Christ say anytime between the second and 13th Century?

Remember, the claim is the existence of non-denominational since the time of Christ up to the present day. This is what I’m looking for evidence of.

I’m not sure if you’re saying there is none or not.

So anyone can eat a magic piece of bread and go to heaven regardless of what they believe?

That’s shows a superficial understanding of Catholic theology an drives the point that Bible Christians are most comfortable in the shallow end of the theological inquiry. Take them to the deep end and they drown. Perhaps, the better question is to ask why pre-eminent Protestants have after a lifetime of scholarly and biblical study converted to Catholicism.

I posted it in response to what you said. “Who needs to be born again we have the eucharist”. You seemed to remove the need for faith with what you posted.

So which heresy is the Mormon one where God has a wife and a father and probably brothers and sisters etc leading to infinite Gods? This is a serious question because I have a son who likes a Mormon girl. This Mormon heresy includes that Gods are created, that men become Gods and that Jesus and Satan are brothers. What a mess!!

Where to begin? :)

You spotted the main one. Who God is, who Jesus is.. Heretical Christology.

Mormon heresy is an odd, unique mix. Here’s a brief list of early heresies and you can see pieces of LDS in some:

I don’t know your or his religious background, but I think what you could do is look at the basic theology of Christians - Catholic and Protestant. There are some main areas of agreement on very basic absolute beliefs.

Then contrast LDS’s basics with these. I think to a thinking person the variance would be striking.

Of course, there’s a woman involved so your son might not qualify as ‘thinking’ right now..

:)

Seems you have your own names.

But no evidence to support your claim?
