Giving up? I “gave stuff up” when I was a kid.
Now, at age 70, I see it in another light: What can I ADD in the next 40 days that will strengthen my faith walk and bring me closer to my Master in his walk toward Golgotha?
Tomorrow, for a start, I’ll ADD ashes.

No alcohol. No sweets (I’ll try anyway). More fasting. More prayer. Thinking of what I can do to help someone.

Well, I’m not the best Catholic and it shows in what I gave up for lent. I chose something that I have had outside help with from Obama, I have given up income.

I’m going to try to go old school and give up meat, eggs, and dairy. I don’t know how long it will last, though.

Working to give up the complaining.
And in its place adding more prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

Pointing out to my liberal friends on Facebook how stupid and flawed ObamaCare really is. That selfish satisfaction is what I am giving up for Lent.

I am always humbled in the presence of holiness. Your expressions of journeying ever closer with Our Lord in Lent shows holiness of desire. And I humbly fall in beside you good fellows, leaving behind a few things I crave to put into my mouth, a few activities I crave to do, and a few constant sins I crave to commit.
Onward Christian soldiers!
