There can only be irrational basis for CONTINUING to call Mary the mother of God. over the Scripturally correct "Mother of Jesus".
Welcome to CATHOLICism 101
While we are waiting to start; enjoy the artwork on our walls.
If some of it seems shifty to you, just look at it real closely
and it will stop moving, but another location will then start to crawl on you.
Do NOT think our mental processes are this way!
Facts not in evidence.
I'll make it easy for them:
That is a well written and well thought out post. Cleat and concise. Though I disagree with your conclusion, I can understand your argument. And I commend you for raising the tone of the discussion to rationality.
My own beliefs began to change when I allowed that the Lord Jesus actually knew what He was talking about when He said that the Holy Spirit would lead to all truth. It intrigued me that He did not advise the Apostles to take good notes and write a Book.
So, I was able, grudgingly at first, to admit that the Ecumenical Councils may have been in accord with His promise, as noted above.
Good morning!
Enough wrangling for now.
How’s the wife doing??
Got off the vent yesterday and came back full of wit and spirit. Still a lot of recovery to come; but she has shown herself a fighter. Prayer thread keyword: mrsdono
Thank God!
And I thought that the Islam, or Muslim explanation for Jesus being a "created being" (created in the womb of Mary, God can "do anything", hence that's what occurred -- according to muslims) resulted in themselves being those who re-enact ancient Arian heresy.
They seem almost reasonable in comparison to your hard-core Mormon (not to be confused with your hard-core commie, of course, just ask General Jack D. Ripper over at Burpelson Air Force base about those, no wait, Ripper checked out, my bad...)
Poor bishop Arius. He never went near as far with it as those later associated/identified with his name did.
But I have little to no sympathy for the Mormon theological error in regards to Jesus. Theirs appear to be far worse (for those who narrow-toe the "Temple Mormon" theological line) than even --- Muslims.
Just wow. I hope those Mormons who accept something near to (but arguably better than) King James Version, or pretty much anything other than "Mormon" translation of the Bible, and so recognize Jesus as the only Begotten Son, as it is written in accepted New Testament Scripture --- which was not polluted by Joseph Smith's alterations (claimed to be "restoration) are not too overly offended by what I just said, but if they are, they really should take as much time as it could take to go over what you just wrote about official, highest level Mormon 'doctrine' in regards to Jesus, and compare that to how a real Bible describes the conception and Incarnation of Christ, and how Roman Catholics, Protestants, and Orthodox Christians of a wide variety of 'flavors' understand and speak of this one whom we know of as Jesus.
Ol Mo, and Joseph Smith, frauds of differing feather, but otherwise produced similar work-your-way-to-God by being "good", that simply does not fly. Man's own righteousness is as filthy rags in God's sight. THat's the "bad news"...
Oh, and of course Mohammed proves to be the more deadly of the two, for nowadays it is not exactly endorsed proviso for Mormons to go out and slay those whom "insult the prophet" (in that instance, that would mean the alleged prophet Joseph Smith) while as we know there are millions of Islamicists who are quite willing to kill others in the name of Mohammed, and because of the name of Mohammed.
It flat blows me away that people actually fall for this Islamic and Mormonic stuff. I guess most have the excuse that they were born into it?
Myself, I was not raised in "the Church" albeit I was raised in the South, "bible belt" kind of culture, and so there were small amounts of Scripture which I was exposed to, and the general "plan of salvation" as shallowly expressed by what they called "the sinner's prayer" I was familiar with -- but suspicious of.
I prayed ___ God, I can't believe this (speaking of "bible" and church in general).
If this is YOU, then YOU are going to simply have to make it plain to me in no uncertain terms that it is.
He answered that prayer, in occasionally quite powerful and astonishing ways.
I do believe He is willing to answer others prayers, just as unmistakably powerfully.
It most certainly does. And has reinforced my belief as to who it is also.
Very good, very good indeed. As many have been praying.
She certainly has strong "wit and spirit" both.
I am quite glad for you all, yourself and what (now adult?) children you share with her.
She's one of the irreplaceable type. None quite like her. As far as I can tell, from a distance, and from tangling with her on the "other side" a few issues.
I have been "reminding" God of this very fact. Concluding of course with "Thy Will Be Done."
Well, i prayed for snow if it be the Lord’s will, cause we really had none - and now it is evident that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly more than we ask or imagine.
It is good to be able to help the neighbors get shoveled out, praise God, while after joining men with men in marriage, this state is asking for judgment, which one day will be more than this - from God’s hand, not mine.
The other day, after going to your own page, that sunk in, and so that's much the way I approached my own requests.
Christ is the new Adam as we see in Romans 5:14. Adam didn't come from Eve. He came from God.
the Ark of the Covenant foreshadowed Christ not Mary. The Ark was where God was with the people. The Psalmist says "Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him. ". When the armies of Israel carried the Ark before them they were victorious just as we are victorious when we keep Christ before us. The law was contained within the Ark and so is the law contained in Christ. In Psalm 40:8 we find that the law was within Christ's heart. The Ark went before the people to lead them and so Christ leads His people as we see in John 10:3-4. The Ark was where God was with the people of Israel so Christ is "God with us".
Mary is not the new Ark nor is she the new Eve. As Christ ridiculed the Pharisees for corrupting the laws so we ridicule the Catholic Church for corrupting scripture.
Sola Deo Gloria
The reason we don't call Mary the mother of God is because the Holy Spirit didn't call her mother of God.
So you are saying the Holy Spirit is irrational for never inspiring the writers of scripture to call Mary the mother of God?
“The first Adam addresses Eve as woman.
The last Adam addresses Mary as woman.
Logical Conclusion:Mary is the last Eve.
.................
Eisogesis: When you start with an idea and attempt to find it in Scripture.
Failure: When you can’t find your idea taught in Scripture and make it up out of whole cloth.
