Pope Francis, during his recent love-filled tour of the Phillippines, raised his hand in a salute and prompted some Internet tongue-wagging.
Standing next to Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle in Manila, the Pope raised his index and pinkie fingers, keeping his third and fourth fingers down and his thumb extended.
The cardinal did the same.
All of which prompted the Los Angeles Times to post on its music blog that the pontiff might have been making the sign of the horns, a heavy metal staple among concert fans, or perhaps a centuries-old devil sign.

Well, there you go: Latin Kings.
Perhaps they both did well in Latin in seminary....
Generally I agree with you. But this particular situation is nothing.
There’s plenty of ‘nothing’ to go around!
As I stated many times before, this current ‘pope’ is the titular head of a brand new modernist, secular religion that has nothing to do with Christ’s Church on Earth.
We’ve had over 55 years now of Satan’s influence on destroying Catholicism.
Are there really adult people who do not know this sign?
I think that means, "Hook 'em Horns!" in TX
You and I agree here.
That’s the Shocker hand sign.
My first thought, too.
Yeah Brah
Sign language for “I Love You.”
I think I was vaguely aware of it but it didn’t come to mind here. I was wrong to post the article without reading the whole thing first because it does mention sign language. It was written, though, in such a style that I realize now was meant to play off the controversial nature of the Pope, It seemed to me the story was reporting that the Pope was a heavy metal fan or they didn’t know why he made that sign, but actually it was a “trick article.” I’m glad to know now, though, for sure about the sign language. I’ve seen claims through the years that one person or another in a photograph is making the devil’s sign, but I’ll look for the thumb placement now. And one other thing about all this is that maybe it’s just me but I don’t really care for the looks of the sign and how close it is to the devil’s sign. The Wikipedia article on it notes the siimilarity. These talk about its possible origins.

I agree with you totally about the atmosphere generated around that hand sign. It has a history of associated with witchcraft - that can be seen in descriptions published in books from decades ago. It is not a good look, IMO.
Anything and everything. The country and the world are on the verge of becoming an ash heap and they are worried about the Pope making an “I Love You” gesture to the deaf. Sigh... and yawn!
LOL.
By saying ‘I love you’ in sign language?
Hilarious.
Satanist.
HAHA!
Satanist

Please, much worse than that. Agnostic.
Evil liberal.

You have no idea.
I went from being an Episcopalian to being agnostic.
You are Satan himself.
