Those who annoy Allah and His Messenger Allah has cursed them in this World and in the Hereafter, and has prepared for them a humiliating Punishment. Truly, if the Hypocrites, and those in whose hearts is a disease, and those who stir up sedition in the City, desist not, We shall certainly stir thee up against them: Then will they not be able to stay in it as thy neighbours for any length of time: They shall have a curse on them: whenever they are found, they shall be seized and slain (without mercy).
Quran 33:5761
Pope Francis believes that he understands what motivated the terrorists who slew twelve in Paris last week:
Pope Francis on Monday denounced the religious fundamentalism that inspired the Paris massacres and ongoing Mideast conflicts, saying the attackers were enslaved by deviant forms of religion that used God as a mere ideological pretext to perpetuate mass killings.
In his annual foreign policy address to Vatican-based ambassadors, Francis called for a unanimous response from the international community to end fundamentalist terrorism in the Mideast. And he called for Muslim leaders in particular to condemn extremist interpretations of their faith that seek to justify such violence.
The leader of the 1.2-billion strong Catholic Church has stepped up his call for Muslim political, religious and intellectual leaders to vocally insist that Islam doesnt condone such violence. Francis said the Paris attacks were the result of a throwaway culture in which human beings and even God are rejected outright. Referring to the tragic slayings in Paris, Francis said those responsible had become enslaved by new fads and deviant forms of religion.
Religious fundamentalism, even before it eliminates human beings by perpetrating horrendous killings, eliminates God himself, turning him into a mere ideological pretext, he said.
Go here to read the rest. One of the problems with this analysis is that the punishment of death for blasphemy is very much a mainstream Islamic belief, sanctified by passages in the Koran, and has a long history in the Islamic world. It is no doubt useful to the Pope to pretend otherwise, but it is not accurate.
Koran-5.33. The recompense of those who fight against God and His Messenger, and hasten about the earth causing disorder and corruption: they shall (according to the nature of their crime) either be executed, or crucified, or have their hands and feet cut off alternately, or be banished from the land. Such is their disgrace in the world, and for them is a mighty punishment in the Hereafter.
Pope Francis comments against fundamentalists will resonate with secular liberals in the West, but will fall flat with muslims who are actually familiar with their faith and its history.
No, you never try to denigrate Protestant leadership. Not even by lumping them all together. /s
You mean sort of like your protestant president and David Koresh, Jim Jones, Fred Phelps, and the legion of protestant whackjobs down through history. NKP_Vet 1/6/2015, 9:31:13 AM
not Billy Bobs Good Time Church, started by Billy Bob a few years ago. NKP_Vet 1/1/2015, 12:22:19 PM
Might as well be Bishop T.D. Jakes. Thats how much authority this female named Bridget Meehan has. Or Bishop Joel Osteen. LOL. NKP_Vet 12/26/2014, 9:30:38 PM
Religious cults are the domains of protestants, and the illustrious list of cult leaders includes Jim Jones and David Koresh. NKP_Vet 12/17/2014, 11:17:36 AM
But denigrating all Protestant leaders by attempting to equate them all with apostates doesn't count right? Right?
Of course you weren't trying to insinuate that Ted Haggard was a "Protestant leader" right?
Youre right, Pastor Ted Haggard finds all the boys. NKP_Vet 12/16/2014, 1:14:42 AM
>>Theres got to be something on FR you can come up with.<<
It was your challenge so please don't complain about cross threading k?
Not that Islam itself is deviant mind you. After all, if they were "actually familiar with their faith and its history" they would realize they serve the same god as Catholics right?
And in light of this,
“Even if the Pope were Satan incarnate, we ought not to raise up our heads against him, but calmly lie down to rest on his bosom... He who rebels against our Father is condemned to death, for that which we do to him we do to Christ: we honor Christ if we honor the Pope; we dishonor Christ if we dishonor the Pope.”
[St, Catherine of Siena, SCS p 201-202, p222 (quoted in Apostolic Digest, by Michael Matauc, Book 5, “The Book of Obedience”, Chapter 1]

EWTN Catholic Q&A
Roman and seminary search
Question from Bill Foley on 09-10-2002:
Roman wrote “unity with the pope at the expense of Catholic doctrine.” It seems to me that he is really not seeking a seminary that is truly Catholic, that is, one totally faithful to the papal magisterium. Please note what Saint John Bosco said to his spiritual sons as he was dying: “Do not ever forget these three things: devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, devotion to Mary Help of Christians, and devotion to the Holy Father.” Saint Catherine of Siena, a Doctor of the Church, has written: “Even if the pope were Satan incarnate, we ought not to raise up our heads against him, but calmly lie down to rest on his bosom. He who rebels against our father is condemned, for that which we do to him we do to Christ; we honor Christ if we honor the pope; we dishonor Christ if we dishonor the pope.” Roman is also confusing St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore with Mount St. Mary’s in Emitsburg. The Holy Father is the principle of unity in the Catholic Church; if one is separated from the Holy Father, then one is separated from the will of God. I suggest that Roman go into the document library of EWTN, enter “papacy” as keyword, and then read the wonderful essay by the late Cardinal Gilroy re the papal magisterium. This wonderful son of the Church refers to the papacy as a “sacrament of truth,” which it is.
Answer by Matthew Bunson on 09-10-2002:
Thank you. Such readings are useful for all of us.
Looks like there's a lot of people who want change in the church to get it back to where it was.
Sound familiar?
Pius 9, Quanto Conficiamur Moerore: Also well known is the Catholic teaching that no one can be saved outside the Catholic Church. Eternal salvation cannot be obtained by those who oppose the authority and statements of the same Church and are stubbornly separated from the unity of the Church and also from the successor of Peter, the Roman Pontiff..
Pope Pius IX, Amantissimus: There are other, almost countless, proofs drawn from the most trustworthy witnesses which clearly and openly testify with great faith, exactitude, respect and obedience that all who want to belong to the true and only Church of Christ must honor and obey this Apostolic See and Roman Pontiff." Pope Pius IX, Amantissimus (On The Care Of The Churches), Encyclical promulgated on April 8, 1862, # 3.
http://www.ewtn.com/library/ENCYC/P9AMANT2.HTM
Pope Pius IX (18461878), Encyclical Singulari Quidem March 17, 1856): There is only one true, holy, Catholic Church, which is the Apostolic Roman Church. There is only one See founded on Peter by the word of the Lord, outside of which we cannot find either true faith or eternal salvation. He who does not have the Church for a mother cannot have God for a father, and whoever abandons the See of Peter on which the Church is established trusts falsely that he is in the Church. (On the Unity of the Catholic Church)
http://www.papalencyclicals.net/Pius09/p9singul.htm
Pope Pius XI, Mortalium Animos: Furthermore, in this one Church of Christ no man can be or remain who does not accept, recognize and obey the authority and supremacy of Peter and his legitimate successors. Did not the ancestors of those who are now entangled in the errors of Photius [the eastern Orthodox schismatics] and the reformers, obey the Bishop of Rome, the chief shepherd of souls?...Let none delude himself with obstinate wrangling. For life and salvation are here concerned... Pope Pius XI, Mortalium Animos, PTC:873) The Promotion of True Religious Unity), 11, Encyclical promulgated on January 6, 1928, #11;
http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/pius_xi/encyclicals/documents/hf_p-xi_enc_19280106_mortalium-animos_en.html
Fifth Lateran Council: Moreover, since subjection to the Roman pontiff is necessary for salvation for all Christ's faithful, as we are taught by the testimony of both sacred scripture and the holy fathers, and as is declared by the constitution of pope Boniface VIII of happy memory, also our predecessor, which begins Unam sanctam, we therefore...renew and give our approval to that constitution... Fifth Lateran CouncilSession 11, 19 December 1516,
http://www.piar.hu/councils/ecum18.htm
Pope Innocent III and Lateran Council IV: "One indeed is the universal Church of the faithful, outside which no one at all is saved, in which the priest himself is the sacrifice, Jesus Christ, whose body and blood are truly contained in the sacrament of the altar under the species of bread and wine; the bread (changed) into His body by the divine power of transubstantiation, and the wine into the blood, so that to accomplish the mystery of unity we ourselves receive from His (nature) what He Himself received from ours." Pope Innocent III and Lateran Council IV (A.D. 1215) [considered infallible by some]
Therefore, if anyone says that it is not by the institution of Christ the lord himself (that is to say, by divine law) that blessed Peter should have perpetual successors in the primacy over the whole Church; or that the Roman Pontiff is not the successor of blessed Peter in this primacy: let him be anathema. Vatican 1, Ses. 4, Cp. 1
St. Thomas Aquinas: It is also shown that to be subject to the Roman Pontiff is necessary for salvation. For Cyril says in his Thesaurus: Therefore, brethren, if we imitate Christ so as to hear his voice remaining in the Church of Peter and so as not be puffed up by the wind of pride, lest perhaps because of our quarrelling the wily serpent drive us from paradise as once he did Eve. And Maximus in the letter addressed to the Orientals [Greeks] says: The Church united and established upon the rock of Peters confession we call according to the decree of the Savior the universal Church, wherein we must remain for the salvation of our souls and wherein loyal to his faith and confession we must obey him. St. Thomas Aquinas, Against the Errors of the Greeks, Pt. 2, ch. 36
http://dhspriory.org/thomas/ContraErrGraecorum.htm#b38
St. Frances Xavier Cabrini: "Many Protestants have almost the same practices as we, only they do not submit to the Holy Father and attach themselves to the true Ark of Salvation. They do not want to become Catholics and unite themselves under the banner of truth wherein alone there is true salvation. Of what avail is it, children, if Protestants lead naturally pure, honest lives, yet lack the Holy Ghost? They may well say: 'We do no harm; we lead good lives'; but, if they do not enter the true fold of Christ, all their protestations are in vain." St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, "Travels", Chicago: 1944, pp. 84, 71.
That is the most anti-Christian thing they could think of I suppose. So, this person is saying even if the Pope was the anti-Christ that he should be followed, because Christ would want us to follow the anti-Christ?
ridiculous
blasphemy. Christ is the one we are to follow, not the Pope.
>>>Pope Urban II is rolling over in his grave.
Yup! And how quickly this Pope has forgotten there is evil in this world. Pope Urban saw it!
Facts are inconvenient things, aren’t they?
The Pope by definition is supposed to be a Catholic fundamentalist.
I debated whether or not to respond to this absurdity (replete with unwarranted personal attacks) but I've decided to give it a go.
It takes very little research to discover the reasons Muslim fundamentalists are at war with the West. The fact that they commit mass murder and decapitate children and drink the blood of Christians has nothing to do with a "culture of rejection". For anyone who won't take their word for it, a cursory examination of the Koran ought to provide sufficient evidence that their murderous attacks are not in response to hurt feelings. Here are some relevant quotes for your edification:
"Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful."
Quran 22:19-22: "fight and slay the Pagans, seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem" "for them (the unbelievers) garments of fire shall be cut and there shall be poured over their heads boiling water whereby whatever is in their bowels and skin shall be dissolved and they will be punished with hooked iron rods"
"Remember thy Lord inspired the angels (with the message): "I am with you: give firmness to the Believers: I will instill terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them."
For the Pope to essentially characterize Islamic terrorist murderers as victims by attributing their actions to "a culture of rejection" (a sort of mass psychological trauma inflicted on the Muslim world by "infidel" societies) is an affront to common sense, and an embarrassment to Catholics who don't exist in his alternate reality.
Nice work metmom!!!
Catholics sure don't seem to like them.
“...Not one to mince words, Catherines letters moved popes and politicians to action. In urging Gregory XI to leave Avignon and re-establish the Papacy in Rome she wrote:
Since [Christ] has given you authority and you have accepted it, you ought to be using the power and strength that is yours. If you dont intend to use it, it would be better and more to Gods honor and the good of your soul to resign .If I were in your place, I would be afraid of incurring divine judgment. Later in her letter she continued, Cursed be you, for time and power were entrusted to you and you did not use them!...
http://catholicexchange.com/fearless-and-fiery-the-letters-of-catherine-of-siena
Catholics would MUCH rather go after Luther’s offspring than to tangle with the Muslims.... again.
blasphemy. Christ is the one we are to follow, not the Pope.
Yes, follow Jesus Christ. He has a better track record. 😄😃 Other than the blasphemy, have you noticed there is a lot of false doctrine here? 😊☺️
.......Even if the Pope were Satan incarnate, we ought not to raise up our heads against him, but calmly lie down to rest on his bosom... He who rebels against our Father is condemned to death, for that which we do to him we do to Christ: we honor Christ if we honor the Pope; we dishonor Christ if we dishonor the Pope.........
What utter insanity! ...beyond sickness and plays right into the hands of the enemy himself. Cannot believe anyone would even consider such rubbish.....those who do are equally as diabolical.
I do like his efforts to focus on the poor.
Thats what all deviant oppressors seem to do.
They like to also care for children.
Written by a doctor in the Catholic church.
See where all those fancy degrees and great education will get you?
Warren came out and said now that she is definately not running.
“Deviant forms of religion” suggests that a religion can be good in its original form, but have deviant forms. It suggests that the original form is a true and good religion and the deviant forms are what is false and evil.
Catholic teaching is that all false religions are just that....false. The only true religion is the Catholic religion.
Once again, Francis doesn’t get the Catholic Faith right.
