Well, you could make a biopic about Rosa Parks, and you could have Scarlet Johansson as the star, and bus drivers could be all, "Girl, get to the back of this bus!" and Scarlet could be all, "I'm not gonna!"

But it might miss the point of the story.

In the same way, it's kind of important that Mary be recognized as Jewish.

The 13th is the most beautiful: Our Lady of Tepeyac.

Well...the most well-known depictions of Mary show her as a not-very-Jewish-looking Caucasian from Europe, which isn’t accurate either...and Jesus transcends race/ethnicity...we are one in Christ Jesus. :-)

Exhibit of paintings depicting Mary in Washington DC until April 12. If you’re going to the March or anything else in DC, it’s probably worth a view. National Museum of Women in the Arts, Corner of New York Avenue and 13th St. NW.

Our Lady of Czestochowa at Jasna Gora in Poland is dark from the soot of many candles burned underneath the icon. Supposedly painted by St. Luke. The wood on which it is painted is of that era.

This is interesting, but saying that a European depiction of Mary is invalid is a bit ridiculous. Has the author seen many Jewish girls? Alicia Silverstone? Plenty of Jewish women have blonde hair and blue eyes. What I want to know is, where are the redheaded depictions of Mary?
