Today's Word with Joel Osteen - January 1, 2014 [Devotional]
Email ^ | 1/1/15 | Joel Osteen

Posted on 01/01/2015 2:07:17 PM PST by Vision

Just do it!

Today's Scripture

“Be strong and courageous and do it. Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed, for the Lord God, even my God, is with you. He will not leave you or forsake you, until all the work for the service of the house of the Lord is finished.” (I Chronicles 28:20, ESV)

Today's Word from Joel and Victoria

Fear not. That is the message David had for his son, Solomon. For many years, David wanted to build a temple for the Lord. But God told Him that specific job belonged to his son, Solomon. Solomon was young and inexperienced, and even though he knew he had a mandate from God, he was intimidated by the prospect of building a great house of worship, one that would be a dwelling place for the Most High. You can probably understand his apprehension.

But his father David had some good advice for him. He told his son, “Forget your fear. God is bigger than your problems. He is bigger than the temple you are going to build. He is bigger than any adversity that you might face. So just get busy and do your part and God will do the rest.”

Perhaps as this new year approaches, you have some changes that need to be made. Maybe you need a renovation in your marriage, finances, health, or emotions. Whatever your individual needs may be, notice the words of David, “Be strong and courageous, and do it. Fear not, be not dismayed, for the Lord God, my God, is with you.”

A Prayer for Today

God, I’m excited to see what You have planned for me this year. Whatever I face, I will not be intimidated. I will begin this year by seeing myself as You do — happy, healthy, and prosperous. Thank you for the gift of another year. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Neither are PROTECTED.

Mormons used to think THEY were, though.

“I don’t know” was used a LOT by the previous Living Prophet® of Mormonism.

It doesn’t matter to the simple minded and easily fooled osteen sheep. Just like osteen calling obama “A Christian” or that obama “Is doing a good job”. That does not matter to them either. When asked to defend those comments osteen’s sheep will not and cannot. He is a 100% fraud. his entire ‘operation’ is designed for one thing and one thing only......To generate revenue for he and his wife to continue their opulent lifestyle. (He is good at it also, I will give him that.) It is flat out pathetic he is able to easily fool the sheep that follow him. Baker and Swagerrt would be proud.

false teaching

How does the New Testament define "false teaching"?

I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

If it is not the grace of Christ, it is not the gospel and is doubly cursed. Joel preaches grace and hope. You, however, preach the condemnation of the law which Scripture calls "ministry of death" (2 Cor 3:7-8).

There was only one group of people Jesus rebuked and condemned: the self-righteous, condemning, and accusing Pharisees. Better take another look at who Scripture commends and who is teaching false doctrine.

Have you a recommendation where to look?

What I've already referenced to you is a good starting point.

PapaNew, may I ask you a couple of questions?

If someone directly asked you whether Jesus is the only way to God, would your response be prompt and sure? Or would you have a problem answering...would you stutter and equivocate for fear of offending?

Also, would you ever attend a homosexual wedding “out of respect”?

Those are personal, subjective questions. They are not doctrinal questions. When I bother to take the time to actually take you folks down to what you are really saying, you’re speaking of personal preference not doctrine. Same as the Pharisees of old against Jesus.

Joel Osteen and his Lakewood Church absolutely stand for Jesus Christ being the only way to God. But he and other grace preachers preach the way Jesus did to the common people: focusing on the salvation that Jesus brings, not threatening them with hell if they don’t. That is Joel’s ministry - the John 4 ministry of a friend to sinners.

The only group Jesus threatened with hell were the legalistic, self-righteous Pharisees who condemned Jesus as a Friend of sinners.

All that Osteen offers is the hope of a good parking space, or a bigger umbrella. (Heard him "preach" that one day.)

There is no calling in Scripture to do what it is he does. He schtick is about self gratification and greed. His is an anti-Christ. He is leading people to hell, but making them feel good about it.

No, they have quite a lot to do with doctrine. The Christian stances on homosexuality and salvation by Jesus alone are pretty basic doctrine.

Now, then...will you answer them?

" When I bother to take the time to actually take you folks down to what you are really saying, you’re speaking of personal preference not doctrine. Same as the Pharisees of old against Jesus."

So it's you, Joel, and Jesus, huh?

"Joel Osteen and his Lakewood Church absolutely stand for Jesus Christ being the only way to God."

Then why did he stutter and equivocate? Why couldn't he say it?

" But he and other grace preachers preach the way Jesus did to the common people: focusing on the salvation that Jesus brings, not threatening them with hell if they don’t. That is Joel’s ministry - the John 4 ministry of a friend to sinners."

Jesus taught more about hell than he taught about heaven. Why does Joel think he knows a better way?

Jesus's manner of preaching certainly did not include equivocation or hesitation for fear of offending someone. Good grief, Osteen won't even call people sinners. Are you going to claim Jesus did that, too?

I ask you again to please answer the questions I have politely put to you.

The stuff in #227?

I've read that and have NO idea what you are talking about.

You infer 'more' by using 'starting point'.

Again; just WHERE is this false teaching proclaimed?

Jesus taught his disciples about hell but it wasn’t a condemning type of message to them. And his preaching to the common people, like the woman at the well in John 4, as distinguished from his teaching to his disciples, was absent any threats of hell.

As I said, the only group Jesus condemned were the legalistic, self-righteous Pharisees.

TADA!

Bishop Fulton J. Sheen quotes:

"A Plea For Intolerance" (1931)

Tolerance is an attitude of reasoned patience toward evil ... a forbearance that restrains us from showing anger or inflicting punishment.
Tolerance applies only to persons ... never to truth.

America, it is said, is suffering from intolerance — it is not.
It is suffering from tolerance.
Tolerance of right and wrong, truth and error, virtue and evil, Christ and chaos.
Our country is not nearly so overrun with the bigoted as it is overrun with the broadminded.

Too many people get credit for being good, when they are only being passive.
They are too often praised for being broadminded when they are so broadminded they can never make up their minds about anything.
As quoted in Seven Words to the Cross (1979) by Ellsworth Kalas, page 93.

Right is right if nobody is right, and wrong is wrong if everybody is wrong.

If you don't behave as you believe, you will end by believing as you behave.

An atheist is a man who has no invisible means of support.

John 3:18

Whoever believes in him is not condemned,
but whoever does not believe stands condemned already
because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
