Joel Osteen, Gosh . . .
Patheos.com ^ | December 17, 2014 | David Mills

Not a shock: megachurch celebrity tv star preacher Joel Osteen doesn’t know the Bible, reports the clever and energetic Tristyn Bloom of The Daily Caller. (The story’s several weeks old but I just saw it so pass it on for those of you who hadn’t.)

In a Monday post to his verified Facebook page, Joel Osteen ministries, read: “God said in Numbers 11:23, ‘Moses, is there any limit to My power?’ He was saying, ‘Moses, you saw Me part the Red Sea, stop the sun for Joshua, keep three Hebrew teenagers safe in a fiery furnace, don’t you realize that I can bring water without rain?’ There’s no limit to God’s power.”

As of Friday afternoon, the post had over 317,000 likes and 52,000 shares.

One normally hesitates to criticize ministers from another tradition, but Joel Osteen perverts Christianity in a way that will keep people from Christ. He preaches a Christianity without a cross. As one commenter put it:

Joel Osteen is a motivational speaker who pretends to be Christian in order to make money. He and his wife live in a multimillion dollar mansion, and in return sell a gospel of false promises, bad theology, and gross consumerism. It is unsurprising that he fails to quote Scripture accurately, because adherence to Scripture has never been a priority of his.

What is truly unfortunate about him and his operation is that through their false teaching they mislead millions. I hope and pray for his repentance, before his final judgment and damnation.

I don’t know about “pretends.” I have no idea what Osteen thinks he’s doing. He does not speak as a Christian preacher but as a motivational speaker who exploits Christian language and Christianity’s continuing cultural authority to bring people (and their donations) in. There’s nothing like the message to the rich young ruler in his preaching, no take up your cross, not even a watch with me.

The Christian life is a constant struggle to move closer to Christ, against the flow of our natures. We’re swimming upstream. With God’s help, making progress, but only because He helps us keep pushing against the current. Osteen offers a pleasant ride on a warm spring day down a wide slow-moving river lying on a well-stocked raft. He presents this as if it were grace and not the easy choice of our fallen natures. “God wants you to do what you want to do” is not the Gospel.

“Toothy Charlatan”? I love it! (Way better than the fraud term I use for him, although that does fit also!) Can I steal it from ya?! Yes, there are some FReepers fooled by Osteen but thankfully mostly the rest see and know him for just what he is.....

“What do you think of this?..................”

Like I said FReepmail me when he advocates abortion, I really want the honors of posting it. I know it’s coming.

Some religious mods are....well religious about it.

There is no shortage of Catholic threads here....and some frankly are openly derisive of non Catholic Christians.... in that they discount that possibility

Sometimes nobody can challenge the thread originator...you get a warning like take arguments off religious threads....no fighting

Other times its a free for all cat fight

It depends on which religion mod is awake and how many crybabies are hitting the abuse button

I’m ambivalent about Osteen....he’s off base largely but on occasion speaks scripture....I think he knows scripture but speaks in more vague positive Dale Carnegie speak

I give him a C minus on a scale with the Grahams an A and Reverend Ike an F

I’d like to see religion threads banned from the forum....it brings out the worst in Freepers which is saying something

I get sick of it...I see a bunch of nasty folks cutting and pasting

And preening.

Every now and then something original or sincere....

It makes us look like the charictature we supposedly are.....

Oh by all means sell out to the Government by not speaking the truth!

If John the Baptist had just done that he would have avoided a lot trouble!

You are the one in scripture about which it says ‘cast not your pearls before swine lest they turn and rend you’....so on that note, please do not contact me again.

2 Corinthians 11:13-15 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.

2 Timothy 4:3-4 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.

He’s on to a false gospel, one without the need for repentance, the cross, offering our bodies as a living sacrifice to God.

He’s big into transforming your thinking, but it is not the mind of Christ that he’s talking about, the one who humbled Himself, taking on the very nature of a servant and gave His life for us all.

Osteen encourages the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.

What did God say to the rich man who built bigger and better barns in which to store his harvest?

What did Jesus say to the Laodicean church who thought they were rich, had prospered, and had need nothing, not realizing that they were wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked?

Man cannot love God and money, and it’s not about being *happy* and materially *prosperous*. It’s about the joy of the Lord and our soul prospering.

Riches are deceitful and with the way I see people handling money, I doubt that very many would handle it correctly if God gave it to them.

Jesus told us that in this world we would have tribulation, but to be of good cheer, that He had overcome the world.

HE never promised us health, wealth, and prosperity. That’s a deceit from the enemy to take our eyes off Christ.

Additionally, let’s see how Osteens message applies to those parents in Iraq who watched ISIS behead their children for not renouncing Christ?

Was God not blessing them? Did they fail to *confess* success and proclaim and walk in the prosperity God had for them?

Osteen’s message appeals to the flesh with its promise of material prosperity in this world.

Whatever happened to *Godliness with contentment is great gain*? All Osteen does is preach a message that encourages discontent and an entitlement mentality.

Also, let’s not forget that Osteen said he would have no problem attending a homosexual “wedding”....to show respect.

I dislike the Osteen “Devotionals” too. However, my problem isn’t so much that those threads exist, it’s that we aren’t able to comment. Most of the closed caucus threads are full of heresy, yet we can’t discuss it. Lost people need to hear the truth!

Which is the value of these threads.

I think you are a false teacher, who rails against God’s word in a sanctimonious way, and who actually thinks he is doing God a service...NOT.

So now you're doing the very thing that you're condemning Gamecock for doing in regard to Osteen.

Why all the Gamecock haters here?

Even Benny Hinn recognized this apostasy.

And it's pretty bad when even Benny Hinn sees something.

It's the first thing I've ever heard Hinn state that I agreed with him on.

Now wait a minute.

You’re accusing CB of taking things out of context and yet you focus on verses 8-9 while ignoring 1-6?

Just who’s taking things out of context here? (Hint: It isn’t CB)

**a pulpit is not the right platform for criticism of others publicly based on God’s word.**

Tell it to John The Baptist and all of the OT Prophets.

No doubt, NO DOUBT...you have a weakness that only Christ can help you control completely...that’s why the Bible tells us not to judge one another....

The Bible does not tell us to judge one another.

We are told to judge with righteous judgment. We are given discernment fro a reason and there's no way to determine whether someone is a false teacher without judging them

FWIW, Joel Osteen is not saved, he is self-righteous and disrespectful to God, he takes Scripture out of context, and refuses to understand the Bible.

WRONG!

Matthew 7:1-3King James Version (KJV)

7 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye

John 7:23, 24

Jesus Teaches at the Feast
…23 “ “If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the Law of Moses will not be broken, are you angry with Me

because I made an entire man well on the Sabbath? Context

God’s Righteous Judgment
1Therefore you have no excuse, everyone of you who passes judgment, for in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things. 2And we know that the judgment of God rightly falls upon those who practice such things.…24” Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous

judgment.”

Romans 2:1

God’s Righteous Judgment
1Therefore you have no excuse, everyone of you who passes judgment, for in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things. 2And we know that the judgment of God rightly falls upon those who practice such things.…
