Is Prayer/Veneration/Worship to Mary Biblical?
self | 12-14-14 | ealgeone

The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not man’s standard.

Catholics and Protestants HAVE the same Mary...(There's only one) Catholics have chosen to gussie up her talents and qualifications until she now has either attained GODhood or exhibits GODly powers.

She has neither...we just respect her more than you do.

He likes to reveal things as we are capable of understanding them.....no hurry!! 2 Corinthians 1:13 For we do not write you anything you cannot read or understand.

the discussion was WHEN he revealed it...we understand it just fine.

Christ is the entire emphasis in the Catholic church and has been for 2,015 years.

But, which Jesus? I don't read minds, so I don't know for sure what you think, but my feeling is, we don't worship the same Christ, but I am comfortable with that. The Tiber is too treacherous to swim this time of year, so I think I won't make the attempt. We will just have to agree to disagree.

How was my question not civil? It was a clear reference, “least of my brethren”. If you think different, frame the question better, please.

I think differently than you. Why are you acting like a jerkwad by not responding to the easy and plain question posed originally before you began twisting it and making the simple difficult? Why is that?

It happens to mean both:

δικαιοσύνῃ

Yeas, Douay prefers "justice".

That is because the purgatory is entry to life everlasting, and not a destination in itself.

Are you that unaware of what your church puts out on the internet? Those are Catholic sites aren't they?

not familiar with that site but we both know that the Catholic Church did not post that.....did a Catholic person???, I suppose so but then they are free to post as much nonsense as the Protestants do...

Peter was not saved, not even converted (Luke 22:31-32) at that evening; and, similar to his ability to be prompted by Satan as in Matthew 16:22-23, Satan had Peter, was sifting him, and used Peter’s inability to master his stupid lashing out at Malchus in order that Satan might work through him to create a situation which would cause Jesus to be killed through rebellion, thus preventing Jesus from being sacrificed on the cross.

He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
-- Matthew, catholic chapter sixteen, protestant verses fifteen through seventeen, as authorized by King James

I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.
-- John, catholic chapter seventeen, protestant verses six through ten, as authorized by King James

Sorry about that. I think, Jesus is speaking of anyone, and especially people of low social status. I was honestly surprised that this would be somehow controversial.

Your lack of faith in God is acknowledged.

I have great faith in God, I just pointed out which group that He chose to carry His message through the ages...and it worked fine!!

Nothing about it was controversial. It was a simple question which you construed as difficult to answer. Now, I don't care to know what you think since you've treated me rudely and without cause, your attempted apology notwithstanding.

LOL I could have posted 10 more then the two I did. It’s contained in “The Account of St. John the Theologian” posted at http://www.newadvent.org/fathers/0832.htm

Surely you wouldn’t say that is just a “person that posted that” would you?

nobody else has the authoriity to do so. The Catholic church is the true church of Christ and thus, anyone recruiting people to another church would be leading them astray. There can only be one Holy, Catholic and Apostolic church on Earth and the Catholic church is that one. Wheen we recruit peopple to the Catholic church, we are recruiting them TO Christ, not some man made vaariation of what the true church is...

Knowing how sneaky some Roman Catholics are about definitions of words, why don't you explain what you mean by "The Catholic church". If, as I expect - though you may shy away from admitting it openly - you are talking about the Roman Catholic church, then you couldn't be MORE wrong. The gospel of the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ is what wins souls TO Christ. Insisting people have to join your church first is one of many accursed man made variation gospels that are out in the world. Salvation comes by the grace of God through faith IN Christ - it is how we are saved, justified, made righteous and sanctified. When this happens, we are automatically made members in the universal church of Christ, His body and bride.

It seems to me you may have overreacted and taken offence when none was offered. It seems to me the name you called him uninspired. Can you push the restart button ?.

There was no "Catholic Church" until 300 years after the apostles.

By the year 300 the Catholic church had gone through at least 25-30 Popes. You don't have to believe it, but there they were....maybe with pointed hats and croziers...who knows!!

Baloney! Do you imagine poor God can’t do anything without your friends in Rome?

Tell me, TC, did the “gospel” exist BEFORE there was the Roman Catholic church?

If Mary was sinless, I don't think she would have been subject to death.

Jesus didn't really die????? Who knew???
