Is Prayer/Veneration/Worship to Mary Biblical?

The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not man’s standard.

Years ago I was in Basic Training down in S.C. One of the guys I was with tried to get me to go to his “church” It sounded a lot like this one. He called it Swenborgenism (sp?). They believed Christ was divine but everything else sounds similar.

>You've got the CCC saying two different things, ECFs with contradictory positions on this, and other issues. Must be confusing to be a catholic. <

No, it just requires a deep and abiding faith in God to believe profound truths that seem contradictory to the natural man, like the Messiah being a Jewish man and the Son of God/God the Son at the same time.

What I find confusing is how people can claim they

1.love the God of the Jews and hate the Jews

2.love the LORD Jesus Christ and ignore His commandments on this thread.

3.love Mary, the Virgin of Israel, and publicly scorn and ridicule her.

Not sure who is hating the Jews on this thread.

Don't know who is or is not ignoring His commandments.

To be clear...Mary is not the Virgin of Israel. Must be one of those catholic titles she has.

Nor are Christians called to love her.

Catholicism is ridiculed and scorned for the false worship and deification they place on Mary.

If it's not a personal relationship with Jesus....then what is it? Some standoff relationship that you can't approach Him?

It is a covenant relationship with God that incorporates those in said covenant into a corporate relationship with not only God, but each other. It can be understood in the context of Israel. Not even Elijah the Prophet could claim God as his personal Savior. What did God say to him? That He had reserved 7000 in Israel. What does the Apostle to the Gentiles say ? That Gentiles are grafted in. What did Messiah pray for ? That all who believe in Him through His apostles' word would be one.

That opinion would explain someone who neither loves her nor considers her a virgin.

So many words and nothing of note to reveal Christ. Only misdirection, Scripture out of context and another spam post to try and justify their cult's idea about religion. They bandy the name of Jesus to get your attention, just like the Mormons. But, just like rat poison, it is the 10% of poison that kills.

Their denial of their worship of their moon goddess Mary is just more of the same!

They even try to make it more palatable by creaming it with idols and gold-plated cathedrals! But, their incessant droning is just more Spam.

I'll repeat it again. Mary is not the "Virgin of Israel".

She was a virgin when carrying Christ.

She was not a perpetual virgin as per the Bible.

No where in the Bible are we called to love Mary.

We are however called to love the Son and to love God.

treat the passage objectively

I treat it objectively. There are several verses that I pointed out that are focused on the words of Jesus at the Last Supper -- where He clearly referred to His own body -- and at the same time at the celebration at Corinth, which lacked discernment. It could be that the larger context is the assembly of Christians, but the remarks done by Paul in the passage in focus reflect his opinion on the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

Happy New Year to you!

How can a reference to the events 500 years ago be personal to any freeper?

You ARE wounding His body, the very one you are supposedly honoring by this meal, by playing the hypocrite toward your brother.

Yes, I agree that this is the overall sense of the chapter. But please realize that the body the Corinthians were eating unworthily could not be their own bodies as assembly of believers. The focus in the outlines passage is the literal body of Christ present at their meal.

That the Catholic Church is the Mystical Body of Christ I don't dispute. But the passage in 1 Cor. 11 speaks not of that but of the personal, physical, literal body and blood of Christ, for reasons indicated. Anything else is another attempt to fast-forward through the parts of the Holy Scripture that destroys Protestant theological fantasies.

Pretty little girl you’re just having fun
You’re running all around, you’re breaking lover’s hearts
Pretty little girl, I don’t stand a chance
Without any money there goes our romance

She always wears charms, diamonds, pearls galore
She buys them at the 5 and 10 cents store
She wants to be just like Zsa Zsa Gabor
Even though she’s Donna next door

Donna, Donna the Prima Donna

....He said"DO THIS"...remember that part? Do this...in REMEMBERANCE of Me. Remember that part?

again you are forgetting 4th grade sentence diagramming.

He said DO THIS, and then He told you why to DO THIS....it was in memory of Me...That changes NOTHING anout the original command to DO THIS, it merely tells you why.

Thanks for this excellent insight on the Bishop of Hippo! My Dad, a
Methodist minister of some 65 years, brought this to my attention in the
1980s as we were traveling together. What enters my mind as I read again
your treatment is the first verse of the simple but powerful hymn
"The Solid Rock" by Edward Mote (ca.1834):

The Solid Rock

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness;
I cannot trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus' name.

On Christ, The Solid Rock I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

Well, OK, water to grape juice at the beginning of his public ministry. But not as a ritual of remembrance

the mirscle at Cana was water into wine and the Bible specifically says so, in fact, not just wine....but the finest wine!!!

While you may still disagree with her, it behooves you to at least respect her position as well represented among many of the best early witnesses of the Christian faith, who would, if they were posting on this forum today, be on her side of this particular argument.

not a chance....for over 2,000 years the Christian church has interpreted it just the way that it was said....no double talk, nothing hidden no gender discrepencies between the rocks....just Naming Peter to head His church....and it has worked out just fine, Thanks!!
