Is Prayer/Veneration/Worship to Mary Biblical?
self | 12-14-14 | ealgeone

Posted on 12/14/2014 11:57:21 AM PST by ealgeone

The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not man’s standard.

An appropriate warning. What is the warning for those who fail to recognize a prophet of the Lord? Is there one?

Just out of curiosity, who was the last real Prophet of the Lord, as you understand it?

Have there been any or did all of that stop with Jesus' death?

Self-declared authority is meaningless.

Depends to whom. It is not meaningless to me because I believe in the historical facts described in the Gospel and so I trust the Church because I learned these life-saving facts from her.

If I had no faith, then, of course, that would be meaningless authority, -- it would be over something that does not concern me.

You know, if Jesus Christ came back to earth and read all your posts, he’d never stop throwing up.

unfortunately for some, He undoubtedly knows what everyone of us posts, and you're right...He has to be saddened by many of the posts.

The real answer is even shorter and is *No*. We don't need a mediator to get to the mediator.

That is not even suggested anywhere in Scripture.

1 Timothy 2:5-6 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.

ONE mediator between God and man.

Not two, three, four, whatever.

ONE.

“Some deal with the former and some with the latter. The point remains that the need to “discern the body” and eat it “worthily” are references to the physical body of Christ on the cross and not the body of believers.”

Well, no. The complete unit of thought is not the Body of Christ, but correct behavior in relationships among the body of Christ. The sentence structure doesn’t allow your view. The the specific verses you refer to are offered only to support pauls correction and instruction and are structurally in Greek, a sub-point.

The claim you have tried to advance isn’t supported by any of those inspired hermeneutical elements. Sorry buddy.

I stand by my statement.

The point remains that the need to “discern the body” and eat it “worthily” are references to the physical body of Christ on the cross and not the body of believers.

That is because St. Paul makes reference to the words of Christ at the Last Supper where He was talking about His physical body being given up. These references are adjacent to the references to “discerning” and eat “worthily”.

How about addressing the Scripture instead of making it personal?

The Holy Spirit in Scripture says *one*.

Roman Catholicism says more than one.

Roman Catholicism therefore, is wrong.

I have no doubt you will continue to disregard the meaning of the passage, as your pattern has been.

Unfortunately for your wrested point of view, it doesn’t say what you claim.

This is always the problem for everyone who brings an idea into a passage and tries to prove the passage supports that idea (eisogesis), instead of starting with Gods Word and asking what it means and teaches (exegesis).

Best.

ANYTHING THAT THEY SAID that caused you to leave the true church that Jesus Christ founded was a lie

The arrogance with which you post statements that are NOT true is amazing.

Jesus did NOT found the Catholic church, that has been proved to you over and over again.

Yet you post a lie that is calling one of the most respected Christian organizations liars for preaching the Gospel FROM THE BIBLE...the Bible that the Holy Spirit gave us...NOT Catholics.

And then the person finds salvation through Jesus Christ, thank goodness for escaping from the false doctrines of Catholicism.

Praise the Lord Jesus!

Your nasty post is from the bottom of the pit of hell.

Which is where purgatory leads. When you get there you will see the elevator only goes down because purgatory is a lie from the father of lies.

Who is YOUR father?

ANYTHING THAT THEY SAID that caused you to leave the true church that Jesus Christ founded was a lie...pretty simple!!

Praise God for the Navigators :-)

I tend to shy away from any group that claims to be the "only true church." There are many of them, who are pretty passionate, among those are the Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, Philippine Church of Christ (Iglesia ni Cristo, or as I like to call it, Iglesia ni Manalo) Armstrong's World Wide Church of God, Michael Rood's cult; Apollo C Quiboloy's cult, (located only a few miles from where I live) called The Kingdom of Jesus Christ, the Name Above All Names (bet you never even heard of them) and others too, the absolute worst and most evil cult on earth, Islam. They all claim to be the "one" and are just as sure as you are, that they are right. They may very well be all wrong, but they can't all be right. I think you and I are going to have to agree to disagree. You can attend any church you like. I will do the same.

So it’s clear that Peter understood that Jesus was speaking metaphorically when He served the elements and spoke His piece.

So, then, what does it mean when in 1Cor.11:27, it says therefore if anyone eats this bread and drinks of the cup of the Lord unworthily, he will be held to account for the Lord's Body and blood and :29 where it says he is eating and drinking damnation to himself if he eats and drinks unworthily not recognizing the Lord's Body for what it is
