The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not mans standard.
A standard evangelical model can account for the ministry of Christ in both evangelical and Roman Catholic and Orthodox milieus. I didn’t say account for DOCTRINES. I said account for the ministry of CHRIST.
And that is more gainful to discuss than anything else.
And what would those "assumptions" be?
In any theology one has to add the implied “of offending against.”
Whether the offense is physical or symbolic misuse is not addressed by this verse. Other verses bring the needed context.
Your thought processes amaze me...you point out those lines and live by them.
On the other hand, when Christ Himself says "Take and eat of this, THIS IS MY BODY, take and drink of this, THIS IS MY BLOOD WHICH WILL BE SHED FOR YOU" you say oh well, that's not what He meant.
I'd like to pick and choose the Biblical passages that I agree with too....and those I mentioned wouldn't even make the list.
Of what era? You don't like going back to determine what the original writers meant by "venerate". When we look at that time we find that venerate could also mean worship. Just as I showed you that gay meant something different in the 20s than it does now. If we would would go back to the 20s they wouldn't even understand what we meant by the word today. In the same way what the original users of that Latin word meant is what the word meant at that time. It's the meaning at that time that was intended with the use of that word.
Now, if you want to use the word respect or honor to describe what is due Mary it would be appropriate. The actions of most Catholics towards Mary indicate that the original intent of the Latin word venerate is exactly what was meant at the time it was first used and is what Catholics do today.
“If the Word which was inspired by the Holy Spirit is insufficient when we have so many examples in the Bible of people appealing to the Word, we have Jesus appealing to the Word in His dealings with Satan, then you’re going to appeal to man-made “rules” and expect people to believe they are superior to the Holy Inspired Word???”
Does anything you just said prove - or even suggest - that the Bible teaches even once that sola scriptura is true? No. For some reason, Protestant anti-Catholics repeatedly create false arguments:
1) Denying sola scriptura - a false doctrine from the 16th century - is not a denial of scripture, nor its inspiration, nor inerrancy, nor its importance, nor its value.
2) The fact that people are portrayed - and even Jesus is portrayed - as referring to scripture, proving points with scripture, and testing doctrine with scripture does not mean that they relied on sola scriptura, knew about the false doctrine of sola scripture coming 1500 years later, or ever taught sola scriptura.
3) To falsely claim that something that does not fit in with your latter-day heretical Protestant understanding of Christianity must then be an “appeal to man-made “rules”” is simply nonsense. The same goes for “they are superior to the Holy Inspired Word” rubbish.
Of course but this forum is rather restrictive for a sermon sized post.
Wow, Catholics sure build on weak words. sigh
It must be fun being you.
Do you not understand the difference between to and for?
He will never dwell with an organization that practices paganism.
YES, and He's done so for 2,015 years
Or a major fabricated lie by the Catholic Church.
NEVER will you find an error in faith or morals in Catholic dogma. Have there been bad Catholics...well, yes...the church, like all other organizations is made up of people and not all of them were grade "A"...
I'm telling you because you mentioned that the prayer from Jesus started with "Our Father"..we weren't discussing churches, but Biblical content.....and no, the Catholic church does not end the lord's prayer with the Doxology.
sure it is...look it up!....it is VERY easily found when you seek the TRUTH.
All you have is to resort to making it personal? It must be tough arguing against someone who is right.
Obviously I meant that those I mentioned could never make a list of those I disagreed with......
getting very late.
