Rabbi Mark Kula and Imam Khalid Salahuddin are looking forward to attending church Sunday.
Yes, church.
The pair are two of several religious leaders who will take part in an interfaith service at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Coral Gables Congregational Church, across from the Biltmore Hotel, at 3010 De Soto Blvd.
The fourth annual service, organized by MCCJ, formerly known as the Miami Coalition of Christians and Jews, is themed, Pursuing Peace: A Common Path.
What we see, what we believe, affects the way we interact with people, said Kula, of Bet Shira Congregation, a Conservative congregation in Pinecrest. If I believe we are all children of God then, fundamentally, we have something in common that compels us to find peace between one another.
Representatives from various faiths will take part in the free service, which will include an interfaith choir from several local congregations.
We want folks to know they are welcome here, said the Rev. Dr. Laurinda Laurie Hafner, senior pastor at the church. I think its great to bring the kids, and expose them to different music and cultures.
The service is the result of a partnership among the Archdiocese of Miami, Coalition of South Florida Muslim Communities, P.A.C.T (People Acting for Community Together), Faith in the City, the Rabbinical Association of Miami and South Florida Interfaith Worker Justice.
Although the MCCJ has been hosting interfaith dialogues for some 70 years, this particular event started as a way to mark the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with a prayer session. It has kept the tradition going by holding an interfaith service at various houses of worship across the county once a year.
Its extremely inspirational and uplifting, said Roberta Shevin, the executive director of the MCCJ. Come and spend an hour and youll be glad you did.
Very true.
But remember the Samaritan woman at the well? — Even though the Samaritans were worshiping "in the wrong place" (according to Judaism), this was his reply:
(John 4:21-28)
Jesus said to her, Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such as these to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.
The woman said to him, I know that Messiah is coming (who is called Christ). When he comes, he will proclaim all things to us.
Jesus said to her, I am he, the one who is speaking to you.

The fact they mentioned ‘Peace’ says right off they haven’t a clue what they’re doing. In Islam there is only peace through Islam, so in a sense they’re agreeing. A Muslim would read that as “Pursing Islam:”...
...”So why is this church so stupid?”....
Likely they’re one of those which preach a false “You gotta love everybody”... thinking if you love a Muslim they’ll love you back...when in fact you let the enemy in the door you’re going to convert to Islam one way or another because they’re taking names and numbers.
...”Three-way contradiction”...
Perfectly defined!
Jesus din’t preach to those who opposed Him....he called them snakes and a brood of vipers.
When you cannot identify the enemy...you will be deceived mightily by Him.
Part of Islam’s agenda is to infiltrate Christian churches.....and remarkably Churches are inviting them in! (Rather like Obama inviting all the nations here through immigration.)
You pick up a poisonous snake, knowing full well it’s venom can kill, then you suffer when it strikes. Know with certainty that it will.
Which one of them will be non-conductive?
No real rabbi would enter a church to pray. Doing so outside of a different religion’s house of worship is another animal.
Of course he preached to those who were opposed to him:
(Romans 3:23)Since it was His death that reconciled us to Him, prior to the actual event all humanity was God's enemies. The Scripture says so.
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,(Romans 5:10)
For if, while we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!
When you cannot identify the enemy...you will be deceived mightily by Him.
(Ephesians 6:12)
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Part of Islams agenda is to infiltrate Christian churches.....and remarkably Churches are inviting them in! (Rather like Obama inviting all the nations here through immigration.)
Paul said this:
Some proclaim Christ from envy and rivalry, but others from goodwill. These proclaim Christ out of love, knowing that I have been put here for the defense of the gospel; the others proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely but intending to increase my suffering in my imprisonment. What does it matter? Just this, that Christ is proclaimed in every way, whether out of false motives or true; and in that I rejoice. Was he foolish to rejoice that some were proclaiming Jesus with false motives?
Yes, and I will continue to rejoice,
Or, perhaps you think that Darkness can overpower Light — Jesus said otherwise, and indeed called His disciples light:
You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.Or do you counsel that Christians should not invite the unsaved into their midst? If we utterly isolate ourselves, how can others see it and praise God?
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another)
You pick up a poisonous snake, knowing full well its venom can kill, then you suffer when it strikes. Know with certainty that it will.
Jesus smashed the snake's head, why are you concerned with the tail?
Try as they may, oil (islam) and water (Christian/Jewish) do not mix.
You’ve likely bitten into the Agenda that’s pushing this or you wouldn’t have erred so greatly in your misuse of scripture references. You need to pay attention to ‘who’ Jesus was speaking to.
I say again....Jesus called them snakes and vipers....then he walked away from them after pronouncing many Woes. I’m sure you know where to go to read this.
Islam is poison and it will poison any church who unties with it....which it’s already doing. Anyone who thinks otherwise is worse than a fool.
I think we're talking past each other: I said nothing about uniting with Islam — my point is this: as Christians we need to be actively involved in the world, as James put it faith without works is dead
. Jesus said it as well, besides the great commission, he said: I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.
But, I'm most interested in your accusation: that I have erred in my use of scripture. — keeping in mind that I was saying that we should evangelize other faiths, proclaiming Jesus to them, please show me where and how.
...”we should evangelize other faiths”...
Islam is not a “faith”...it’s a political, militant ideology bent on the destruction of all who do not convert to that ideology which is “masked” as a religion to the uninformed.
When a church invites an Islamic Leadership into a “shared” event as they are promoting here they have “United With” them.
Other worldviews.
There, Feel better?
When a church invites an Islamic Leadership into a shared event as they are promoting here they have United With them.
Perhaps.
Though, I have to ask this — what would happen to Islam if all their leaders were converted to Christ?
While it's not entirely analogous, Acts 17 has Paul preaching in the marketplace, and when invited went to the Areopagus and preached there (the illegality of preaching foreign deities meant it was a trial/guest lecture
combination) — Would you claim that the pagans were uniting with Paul?
