Religious institutes of men whose members are either entirely or mainly brothers who are not and do not intend to be ordained. There are more than forty such institutes of pontifical status in the Catholic Church.

I believe this is the canonical status of the Missionaries of the Poor. Father Ho Lung recently retired as Superior and appointed Brother Augusto, who is not a priest. Brother Augusto, who used to be at the mission in North Carolina, said that something to do with their official establishment required having a Brother as Superior.
