Why would anyone become Catholic?

Why would intelligent, successful people give up their careers, alienate their friends, and cause havoc in their families...to become Catholic? Indeed, why would anyone become Catholic?

As an evangelist and author who recently threw my own life into some turmoil by deciding to enter the Catholic Church, I've faced this question a lot lately. That is one reason I decided to make this documentary; it's part of my attempt to try to explain to those closest to me why I would do such a crazy thing.

Convinced isn't just about me, though. The film is built around interviews with some of the most articulate and compelling Catholic converts in our culture today, including Scott Hahn, Francis Beckwith, Taylor Marshall, Holly Ordway, Abby Johnson, Jeff Cavins, Devin Rose, Matthew Leonard, Mark Regnerus, Jason Stellman, John Bergsma, Christian Smith, Kevin Vost, David Currie, Richard Cole, and Kenneth Howell. It also contains special appearances by experts in the field of conversion such as Patrick Madrid and Donald Asci.

Ultimately, this is a story about finding truth, beauty, and fulfillment in an unexpected place, and then sacrificing to grab on to it. I think it will entertain and inspire you, and perhaps even give you a fresh perspective on an old faith.

Catholics take His word very seriously and believe that the Eucharist is truly the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Christ.....why else would He have said it????

Oh??

Micah 6:8
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

John 6:28-29
Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?
Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

strange statement in that you have scripture thanks to Catholics saving it andd hand copying it and protecting it for over 2,000 years....they were the only ones there.

wow. this claim to fame of the catholic church gets really old.

the roman catholic church has been distorting the Word for a long time now. see teachings on Mary for example.

the ekklesia, the church, adopted and identified the NT canon around 200 AD as we understand it today.

BTW, I haven’t met any divorced former Papists in any of the Reformed churches I have been a member of. They were bitter though. Bitter at the joy sucking nature of the Roman Church they grew up in.

many are called but few are chosen....very sorry for them!

only Catholicism does that....Prottys follow those portions that they agree with....a couple of small examples....Christ told His Apostles whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven, whose sins you retain, they are retained....that was establishing the SACRAMENT of penance or reconciliaation.....another one, "take this and eat of it, THIS IS MY BODY WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU" Take and drink of this, this is the chalice of my blood which shall be shed for the forgiveness of sin....Catholics take His word very seriously and believe that the Eucharist is truly the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Christ.....why else would He have said it????

Matthew 18:8-9 (NASB) 8If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. 9And if your eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.

I seriously doubt you've done this. No doubt you've sinned...right?

Too bad that Catholics have such a condemning, unforgiving God.

Oh, He forgives alright, but He expects that you won't continue the same behavior over and over and over and etc.

Did the angel tell Mary what was going to happen or did he ask her? Look it up.

God used Judas, Balaam's donkey, Harrod, and others who will not be in heaven for His purposes.

Catholicism saves? Not Jesus? Paul must have lied to that jailer.

>>Catholics take His word very seriously and believe that the Eucharist is truly the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Christ..<<

Did Jesus eat His own flesh and drink His own blood?

Baloney. We follow the Bible, the whole Bible and nothing but the Bible. It is out Christian manual for a Christian life. I was on another site recently. It was about Catholic beliefs. I found it very strange that not one time did they quote the Bible. It was all about some edict or the other. Did not seem like the Catholics who owned it cared very much about what the Bible says. I tried to find it again but could not even after going through my history sites but I have hundreds of those. Catholic beliefs seem to have a lt to do with pagan ideology.

>ALL BELIEVERS WHO ACCEPTED JESUS ARE CHRISTIANS, PERIOD.<

Satan accepts and knows exactly who Jesus is...he, however doeas not follow Jesus' teachings nor does he follow Jesus' church, the Catholic church.

To be clear...Satan intellectually knows who Jesus is. He doesn't "accept" Him in the manner the original poster is indicating. To think otherwise shows a lack of knowledge of the text.

Second...the roman catholic church is the one that has been "making up their own rules" as they go along. We can easily point to any of the popes ex cathedra statements, the change in indulgences, etc.

But here is a change in doctrine:

Before Vatican II: The condemnation of freedom of conscience and freedom of worship:

"Especially fatal to the salvation of souls is that erroneous opinion of Liberty of Conscience and Liberty of Worship is the proper right of every man. By Our Apostolic authority, we reject, proscribe, and condmen this evil opinion." ( Pope Pius IX )

After Vatican II: relgious freedom.

"The Council further declares that the right to religious freedom has its foundation in the very dignity of the human person... This right to religious freedom is to be recognised in the constitutional law whereby society is governed. Thus it is to become a civil right." (Declaration on Religious Liberty Dignitatis Humanae)

Here's another:

Until Vatican II

"Cut off from the Church: One must neither pray nor sing psalms with those who are cut off from the communion of the Church, whether clergy or layman: let him be excommunicated" - Council of Carthage.

"How does a Catholic sin against faith? A Catholic sins against Faith by Apostasy, heresy, indifferentism and by taking part in non-Catholic worship." (Catechism of the Council of Trent, Catechism of Pope St. Pius X and The Baltimore Catechism).

However, in the last 50 years:

DIRECTORY FOR THE APPLICATION OFPRINCIPLES AND NORMS ON ECUMENISM

On March 25th, 1993, His Holiness Pope John Paul II approved this Directory, confirmed it by his authority and ordered that it be published. Anything to the contrary notwithstanding., Vatican City, March 25th, 1993

“While the concern for restoring Christian unity involves the whole Church, clergy and laity alike, religious orders and congregations and societies of apostolic life, by the very nature of their particular commitments in the Church and the contexts in which they live out these commitments, have significant opportunities of fostering ecumenical thought and action…”

“taking account of the circumstances of place and persons, to organize meetings among Christians of various Churches and ecclesial Communities for liturgical prayer, for recollection and spiritual exercises, and for a more profound understanding of Christian spiritual traditions;”

As you said...one is right and one is wrong. looks like the roman catholic church just goes with the wind.

You see that right here on the Catholic caucus threads. No scripture.

They seem to trust man a whole lot more than what Jesus says.

I’d love just for once...for once...for a roman catholic to give me a verse from the New Testament where it says we are to pray to Mary. It has to be a clear one...not full of the typical allegorical stuff Catholicism is made of. Just one clear verse about praying to Mary. Just one.

Yes, I would too. They quote what man has said but not very much about what Jesus taught. I thought that was the point of Christianity-to believe God’s Word.

I just realized you switched the focus. How very Catholic of you. Here is your quote which I asked you to show proof that anyone claimed.

>>say I believe and then live whatever lifestyle you choose..<< Why did you then switch to this?

>>Now if that does not free them from any responsibility for their own salvation, I don't know what does...<<

Please explain you diversion.

Not gonna happen. The whole concept is taken from the pagans.

God bless your little heart. We depend on the Bible to lead us on our Christian journey. 100%.

so....John Smythe knew far more about establishing a bibilical church than did Jesus and Peter?????....O.K., I guess.
