Why would anyone become Catholic?

Why would intelligent, successful people give up their careers, alienate their friends, and cause havoc in their families...to become Catholic? Indeed, why would anyone become Catholic?

As an evangelist and author who recently threw my own life into some turmoil by deciding to enter the Catholic Church, I've faced this question a lot lately. That is one reason I decided to make this documentary; it's part of my attempt to try to explain to those closest to me why I would do such a crazy thing.

Convinced isn't just about me, though. The film is built around interviews with some of the most articulate and compelling Catholic converts in our culture today, including Scott Hahn, Francis Beckwith, Taylor Marshall, Holly Ordway, Abby Johnson, Jeff Cavins, Devin Rose, Matthew Leonard, Mark Regnerus, Jason Stellman, John Bergsma, Christian Smith, Kevin Vost, David Currie, Richard Cole, and Kenneth Howell. It also contains special appearances by experts in the field of conversion such as Patrick Madrid and Donald Asci.

Ultimately, this is a story about finding truth, beauty, and fulfillment in an unexpected place, and then sacrificing to grab on to it. I think it will entertain and inspire you, and perhaps even give you a fresh perspective on an old faith.

I was curious why catholic priests have their big march to the alter and all that goes with their entrance.....how did that get started....

Well it seems , interesting enough that they modeled their buildings, now called Basilica’s, after secular archetecture...(Romanish)..municipal buildings were called “Basilica’s and had no ecclesiastical meaning at all. This is where Judgments were rendered.....and the characters would dress in their robes and finery and promenade down the long aisle's to the elevated platform where the judge would take his seat.

So in order to feel “royal” they copied the Standards of the Municipal buildings and their protocol, simply trading what was desired for the Popes or Bishops chair...and called the elevated platform then an alter.

It's stunning isn't? How the more we learn the truth about Catholicism the more we see it has nothing to do with the teaching of Christ and the apostles. The more I study the Catholic pagan connection the more I see of how pagan it really is. It's sad to know that so many have been deceived.

Well I saw a catholic mass too.....actually an Easter mass....these people drank the wine out of the same cup! oh my gosh why would any do that!.... Then they had people in their congregation handling the cup and the bread as the other people came forward to the front...I thought only Priests did that but these were people right out of the audiance. Further not one person seemed to do more than just hurry thru the line....even after I looked at their faces...nothing.

The students who sang was bad enough to hear...sheesh...reminded me of some of the bad singers we had in church growing up who thought they could sing@

I’d heard this was suppose to be such an amazing event when they held communion....it was hardly that at all to me, including that of the people. The whole thing was dry and empty....including when the Priest spoke...

Next I’ll view a Roman Catholic Mass and we’ll see what’s the difference. But this was absolutely flat-lined in every way. No life nor joy nor any emotion or ...well just nothingness.

It's sad to know that so many have been deceived.

For some RC insiders, it's a huge business! Just like it still is for a few remaining TV religious entertainers who most viewers may think are Christians.

From this list of TV hucksters, I exclude Charles Stanley and the late Adrian Rogers, both of whom are still televised in my area.

Stanley and Rodgers are good people. They make their content free of charge. A hallmark of a true servant.

Of course it’s nothingness. To most of them I would think it’s rote ritual.

I think it's no different then any other cult. Some are raised in it and others are drawn to it.

As to the TV guys one wonders if they began with right intent or if they saw the money right up front. I saw Benny Hinn when he first started and there was no better Biblical history teacher. He grew up in the ME and truly understood the Jewish culture. He soon turned to the fame and fortune side.

It didn’t even seem ritual I have to say...reminded me of kids plays at school...there was no heart in any of that....just everybody trying to remember where they were suppose to stand...and what page to read from...and the church was more than half empty on at Easter no less. I actually felt bad for them CB...why were they even there?

But the Lord led me out quite manifestly into evangelical faith, which decision He abundantly affirmed, though i am still in need of much growth in grace. Bless God.

I just read the thread again but missed noting this post of yours on first and second readthroughs.

1. Didn't realize you were past a RCC member when I read your other posts.

2. It can come to you quietly and while you're still moving from one place to another: You realize the Truth you have been given to believe and you accept Him completely, keep walking, and don't look back.

ALL BELIEVERS WHO ACCEPTED JESUS ARE CHRISTIANS, PERIOD.

Satan accepts and knows exactly who Jesus is...he, however doeas not follow Jesus' teachings nor does he follow Jesus' church, the Catholic church. Jesus left us an organization that He founded on the apostles and He expected us to follow it....those that do, Catholics and there are those who make up their own rules as they go along...Protestants....one must be right, one must be wrong....

Please show one statement, post, or article that espouses that belief. Surely you wouldn't want us to understand you are simply making a spurious accusation would you?

I constantly hear protestants declare "I have accepted Christ as my savior and therefore I am saved"....Once saved, always saved...Now if that does not free them from any responsibility for their own salvation, I don't know what does...

Thanks. But please do so in the Name of Jesus for best results.

In an unrelated (maybe not) side note; what about this Hoosier boy that felt so sorry for the plight of the displaced Syrians that he managed to get himself captured by the ISIS dudes?

He has been threatened with being the next to lose his head.

Since he had CONVERTED to Islam; shouldn't ALLAH be the one to protect him from harm?

I mean, really, just WHO should we be praying to for his safe return???

Man can not save anyone. Why not follow Jesus the Bible and it’s teachings?

only Catholicism does that....Prottys follow those portions that they agree with....a couple of small examples....Christ told His Apostles whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven, whose sins you retain, they are retained....that was establishing the SACRAMENT of penance or reconciliaation.....another one, "take this and eat of it, THIS IS MY BODY WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU" Take and drink of this, this is the chalice of my blood which shall be shed for the forgiveness of sin....Catholics take His word very seriously and believe that the Eucharist is truly the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Christ.....why else would He have said it????

You paired a quote from Jesus Christ with a mocking illustration.

Yes; I did.

And the illustration mocks your chosen religion.

Got Blood?

I wasn't the only one who thought it was offensive to Christians, since it was deemed unsuitable for FR by the Admin Moderator.

Oh?

How do you KNOW this is a fact?

Did he WARN me or say anything about it in this thread?

Catholics need their strawmen. They cannot defend Catholicism with scripture.

strange statement in that you have scripture thanks to Catholics saving it andd hand copying it and protecting it for over 2,000 years....they were the only ones there.

Really, if you can't bring yourself to admit that, you should just drop the subject and hope everybody forgets it.

Oh no; do NOT forget!

All the dried out body parts, weeping statues, liquefying blood in the WORLD will EVER get me to believe that wine turns into blood, a wafer turns into flesh, and Mary is alive and answering Jesus' mail!

He expected us to follow it....those that do, Catholics and there are those who make up their own rules as they go along...

So true...

Pope Stephen VI (896–897), who had his predecessor Pope Formosus exhumed, tried, de-fingered, briefly reburied, and thrown in the Tiber.[1]

Pope John XII (955–964), who gave land to a mistress, murdered several people, and was killed by a man who caught him in bed with his wife.

Pope Benedict IX (1032–1044, 1045, 1047–1048), who "sold" the Papacy

Pope Boniface VIII (1294–1303), who is lampooned in Dante's Divine Comedy

Pope Urban VI (1378–1389), who complained that he did not hear enough screaming when Cardinals who had conspired against him were tortured.[2]

Pope Alexander VI (1492–1503), a Borgia, who was guilty of nepotism and whose unattended corpse swelled until it could barely fit in a coffin.[3]

Pope Leo X (1513–1521), a spendthrift member of the Medici family who once spent 1/7 of his predecessors' reserves on a single ceremony[4]

Pope Clement VII (1523–1534), also a Medici, whose power-politicking with France, Spain, and Germany got Rome sacked.
