Why would anyone become Catholic?

Why would intelligent, successful people give up their careers, alienate their friends, and cause havoc in their families...to become Catholic? Indeed, why would anyone become Catholic?

As an evangelist and author who recently threw my own life into some turmoil by deciding to enter the Catholic Church, I've faced this question a lot lately. That is one reason I decided to make this documentary; it's part of my attempt to try to explain to those closest to me why I would do such a crazy thing.

Convinced isn't just about me, though. The film is built around interviews with some of the most articulate and compelling Catholic converts in our culture today, including Scott Hahn, Francis Beckwith, Taylor Marshall, Holly Ordway, Abby Johnson, Jeff Cavins, Devin Rose, Matthew Leonard, Mark Regnerus, Jason Stellman, John Bergsma, Christian Smith, Kevin Vost, David Currie, Richard Cole, and Kenneth Howell. It also contains special appearances by experts in the field of conversion such as Patrick Madrid and Donald Asci.

Ultimately, this is a story about finding truth, beauty, and fulfillment in an unexpected place, and then sacrificing to grab on to it. I think it will entertain and inspire you, and perhaps even give you a fresh perspective on an old faith.

Satan works overtime to get them to take their eyes off of Jesus.

It's all Jesus, all the time. Without the narrow confines of protestant hermeneutics, i.e., sola scriptura which is what is truly from Lucifer. Unless you'd like to explain how a protestant individual could derive scriptural warrant for homosexual relationships and all manner of gross moral evil. Unfortunately, having no authority the protestant can't say, "you're doing it wrong" and it be of any consequence. That's the world protestants have made for us. It's a demonic mess of protestants in league with the devil. They should be the ones to clean it up.

I had to read this twice to be sure. I stopped at that point as the rest would be pointless as well.

Relying on the Bible is from Lucifer? Wow. Just wow.

I’ve no problem with someone having a drink; however, I can’t accept kneeling to statues of pagan goddesses or the kissing of “relics” such as human skulls.

Whose a pagan goddess?

If you kneel before her statue, kiss it, burn incense before it, place a crown of flowers on it and pray before it...

You're worshiping a false goddess.

So...what do you have to say about kissing dry bones?

You are wrong.

The protestant does not rely on the bible. They rely upon themselves. Self-deification in violation of God's commandments.

We honor Mary as the Mother of Jesus, true man and true God. If you kneel before her statue, kiss it, burn incense before it, place a crown of flowers on it and pray before it...

>You're worshiping a false goddess. So...what do you have to say about kissing dry bones?<

catholics try to get around mary worship by saying they don't give her the worship due God. by this statement they acknowledge they worship Mary...just not in the same way they do God. it's a complete play on semantics with catholics.

The Christian, of which I am, relies on the Word of God. There is nothing else to point us to Heaven and how to be saved.

So, if the words: honor, venerate, and worship are interchangeable and the protestant has no intellectual compunction about conflating them, why are they to be believed when it comes to their interpretation of the Word? The Holy Spirit surely knows that these terms have different meaning and yet the Protestant does not. Which can only strengthen the idea that protestant exegesis is not of the Divine.

John 14:6 - Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

How is this incorrect?

Yes. That pretty much sums up Catholicism.

Your Catholic friends must be amazed by your knowledge.

No. The protestant relies upon their own understanding which is not a measure of faith. The signature phrase used is, "This speaks to me." Whether used in an intellectual or emotional context is up to the individual protestant. Either way it's not about Faith in Christ but about what is deemed acceptable according to personal predilections of the protestant.

As soon as the protestant comes across something that does not conform to their preconceived notions it is jettisoned. Relativism is the order of the day within the protestant ecclesial community. Which is why it will not survive for much longer. People need more than what they have to offer. Because they are not simply offering Jesus. But Jesus as they perceive Him and because of the man-made filters they've erected around Christ, people don't see Him.

Are you claiming the Catholic Church does NOT keep “relics” in the form of body parts? Furthermore has the Catholic Church not gilded and decorated said body parts, paraded them about, bowed down before them and kissed them?

A simple “Yes” or “No” will suffice.

veneror: to reverence, worship, adore, revere, venerate

source: latin word study tool

veneror: Verb

present active veneror, present infinitive venerārī, perfect active venerātus sum (deponent) 1.I worship, adore, revere, venerate 2.I pay (my) respects

as I said, catholics play on the semantics to avoid the idol worship of mary.

if it makes you feel good, go for it....but it is idol worship.

>>Unless you'd like to explain how a protestant individual could derive scriptural warrant for homosexual relationships and all manner of gross moral evil.<<

Oh that's easy. They are as apostate as the Catholic Church.

>>It's a demonic mess of protestants in league with the devil.<<

It's the Catholic Church who began the process of incorporating Satan's paganism by their own admission One thing Catholics tend to ignore. The Protestants came out of the Catholic Church and retained many of her errors.

>>Unfortunately, having no authority the protestant can't say, "you're doing it wrong" and it be of any consequence.<<

The unfortunate part is that neither Catholics or many Protestants actually use the original Hebrew or Greek as God's word.

...and many Catholics bow before and kiss the gilded, bejeweled, dessicated remains of dead people.

And even if I agreed, I'd still shrug my shoulders and say, "So?" The one thing that protestant can never do is establish a motive to worship as God the relic of a saint and Mary. Sure they can post pictures, cherry-pick scripture and use it out of context but they can't prove it. And they sure can't prove that the Catholic Church teaches it, because they know it teaches the opposite.

In the end it's all about, "I don't like that." I'm gonna go find me a scripture passage that appears to agree with me etc., ad nauseam.

All they are left is inference and supposition. But given the intellectual rigor (or lack thereof) that the protestant uses in their approach to the Word or God for that matter I'm not surprised that being the equivalent of a gaggle of junior high school girls in the bathroom comes naturally to them in matters of theology.
