Why would anyone become Catholic?

Why would intelligent, successful people give up their careers, alienate their friends, and cause havoc in their families...to become Catholic? Indeed, why would anyone become Catholic?

As an evangelist and author who recently threw my own life into some turmoil by deciding to enter the Catholic Church, I've faced this question a lot lately. That is one reason I decided to make this documentary; it's part of my attempt to try to explain to those closest to me why I would do such a crazy thing.

Convinced isn't just about me, though. The film is built around interviews with some of the most articulate and compelling Catholic converts in our culture today, including Scott Hahn, Francis Beckwith, Taylor Marshall, Holly Ordway, Abby Johnson, Jeff Cavins, Devin Rose, Matthew Leonard, Mark Regnerus, Jason Stellman, John Bergsma, Christian Smith, Kevin Vost, David Currie, Richard Cole, and Kenneth Howell. It also contains special appearances by experts in the field of conversion such as Patrick Madrid and Donald Asci.

Ultimately, this is a story about finding truth, beauty, and fulfillment in an unexpected place, and then sacrificing to grab on to it. I think it will entertain and inspire you, and perhaps even give you a fresh perspective on an old faith.

Easy. Either they are bored with mandatory Sunday Mass, OR they have given in to sexual temptation. Either way, automatic Mortal Sin. You go to Hell forever.

Too bad that Catholics have such a condemning, unforgiving God.

Where do you get this dreck from, that Satanic Temple guy in Oklahoma? You just keep on publicly mocking the words of Christ, which you think deserving of ridicule??

Keeps the frightful in the pews. If they show up and the priest can forgive anything, what better place to be?

I agree....that part about all of our sins being nailed to the cross where they remain eludes them. but if they didn't have this it takes away the need for the priest and the old testament like penance they have to do.

My mother’s Catholic church posted in their bulletin to stop wasting their money at the Indian reservation casinos and penny arcades. Instead the bulletin encouraged parishioners to spend their money at church bingo nights:)

“Why do hundreds of millions of Catholics abandon their faith and no longer practice it?”

... or, perhaps progressive policies, politicking from the pulpit, and preaching social justice are driving some away. Recently during Mass, I wasn’t told who to vote for but what the progressive “values” should be.

BTW, I haven’t met any divorced former Papists in any of the Reformed churches I have been a member of.

Come to think of it, me neither. Cannot think of one. And I know many former RCs. And I don't mean RoC dopes with peanuts or a Moonpie.

Deflecting a question with another unrelated question; an accusation or assertion to digress from the discussion topic; bold assertions repeated often after being refuted.

Correct I noticed it as well.

It seems the greatest tool in the Alinsky tool bag is to continue repeating an unfounded assertion often and people start thinking it is fact. Fact meaning since someone repeats it so often it must be true.

The current US DoJ would be proud.

And another you will see is someone complaining another does not provide enough links for sources even though they never click on them.

This sounds like an opinion instead of a fact.

The comment about hell is not true for a believer.

...that part about all of our sins being nailed to the cross where they remain eludes them.

That reminds me that the Crucifix bothers me. No, not the Cross; that no longer is a stumbling block for me. The Crucifix depicts Jesus as frozen in a perpetual position of pain and humiliation.

It's done! He's off the Cross and at the closest possible position to Our Father in Heaven. And he will appear here on Earth's temporal plane...again. In the meantime, it's incredibly comforting and instructive to be sealed and led by the Holy Spirit and walking in Jesus' pattern and style!

Let's not forget murder, adultery, support of mudering the unborn child, etc, etc.

So Jesus was the founder of a severely manifest deformation of a religion? In other words, he was wrong. That’s pretty funny right there.

next time, try reading why and using some logic, and none of what you mention is used in the daily liturgy/mass. where was your “religion” 1500 years ago?

I don't know but Christianity has been around since 30 AD or so.

The real question is are you with Christ today or Rome?

I follow that Catholic document called the Holy Bible and believe everything in it. Is there another Bible?

>>try reading why and using some logic<<

I already know why. The Catholic Church tries to justify it right on their sites. But let's see what God says about that.

Deuteronomy 12:30 Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou inquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. 31 Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God

>>none of what you mention is used in the daily liturgy/mass<<

Oooooo! Nice dodge! Or at least a try. Here's your quote "there is no paganism in the liturgy". Do you see the word " daily" in there?

>>where was your “religion” 1500 years ago?<<

Meeting in Philadelphia and many other areas.

Dude...do you know how condescending your tone is to imply that the catholic church of today wrote the Bible??

This is why we have problems on this board.
